Came here for restaurant week, which is good because damn, this place is pricey, and I’m not sure it stands up to the price. 1 star down for calling me Mr. Walter at least 3 times just upon entering. Thanks. 1 star down for the plain old weird service. I couldn’t call it bad, just weird. You know when you’re shopping for clothes and 7 different people come up and ask how you’re doing and if you need anything and you just want to be left alone? Well it was like that. Plus they took away our bread plates and bread basket very shortly after it was given to us. while there were still many pieces of bread in it! What? And they must have been watching us like a hawk because the second a piece of silverware hit the table, tada – our plate was gone. I really enjoyed the food though. Jalapeño tuna sashimi – do it. So spicy and fresh. The filet was a really small portion(could have been just for RW) but it was cooked perfectly and really tasty. Key lime pie for dessert – yum! Really tasted the lime in there. Not too sure I’d go back. Oh, and there’s lobster mashed potatoes… But they’re $ 35. So, someone else get them and let me know how they are :)

My boyfriend and I came here for restaurant week and absolutely loved it. We made a reservation via open table, as soon as we walked in, we were greeted by two people and were sat at our table on time. Our server was amazing, she went through the entire menu with us and shared what she liked, which was helpful. My boyfriend and I both got the filet and I can’t stress how much we loved it. We both asked for it medium, it was perfectly cooked and juicy. The sides are shareable and HUGE. We got a half portion of the Mac and cheese, and a half portion of the Brussels sprouts. THEMACANDCHEESE is four cheese and seriously some of the best Mac and cheese I’ve had. The half size portions are pretty big, my boyfriend eats a lot and was extremely satisfied and full after we left. Oh, and the appetizer we got the tuna sashimi with jalapeños, oh so good! We really can’t wait to go again, we really enjoyed the restaurant overall. We’ll definitely be back for some more steak and Mac and Cheese!

Well, well, well, what a pleasant surprise! I made my very first visit to Mastro’s on a DC Restaurant Week Friday with my friends, total 6 of us. Even though the place looked full house the lady at the podium wearing a headset seemed very calm and professional. Impressed. We did not have to wait at all to be seated at our table. Once we settled, our server Clara came and greeted us and explained the Restaurant Week menu and made some recommendations outside the restaurant menu. I found Clara particularly nice when my friend asked her the lower the sound speaker for the live music. She very quickly said«Yes!» and the volume was turned down. Until then every one had to scream to be heard in the conversations and the whole place was so noisy. The food — with 6 of us, we covered 3 of 4 entrée choices and all appetizers and desserts. I really liked the following. * Pork Chop * 6oz Filet Migon The pork loin was not tough and seasoned well. The beef was actually cooked as my friend liked it which was medium rare and it did not need any additional salt or pepper. One side dish our server recommended was Lobster Mashed Potato. It was pretty good with chunks of lobster meat, but I would not have it again because of the price. It was $ 35. I would rather go for a steak with that much money. The ambience, classy table setting, service quality, quality of food, I liked them all. So did all my 5 friends. We shall be back!

Went there on Friday for restaurant week and the place was packed! Even at 6:00. We were greeted warmly at the check in by Steve and were brought right to our table. Fresh bread was oh so good. and had a nice glass of wine. Fantastic start to our meal with a complimentary huge shrimp cocktail with a dry ice show, nice sauce and dont forget the atomic horseradish! Yee ha! Then great apps and on the meal. I am always a strip guy but the deal was for the Filet which was the best I think i have ever had! Super hot plate and cooked to a perfect pink. Wife a very nice salmon. Sides were extra being rest week and the lobster mashed taters are to die for. Desert was the famous Butter Cake and that was a good as expected and hoped for as was the key lime pie which was good with great crust but a little too sweet! All in all a great meal.

Came for Restaurant Week and was overall impressed, even though I generally don’t think steakhouses are the best options during RW. We arrived a few minutes late for our 7:30pm reservations and weren’t seated till probably closer to 8:30, though. They seemed a little disorganized at the front of the house. The space is HUGE, with two levels and a sizable bar near the door. We were seated downstairs in a back room, so the noise level was just right. I’ve read a ton of reviews saying the live music is blaring too loud and difficult to hear over. Where we were, the volume was just right and the live music was actually pretty good. The restaurant is decorated like your typical upscale steak place — super dim lighting, white tablecloths, and really dark walls and accents. Service: No complaints– our waitress was pleasant, knowledgeable, and pretty quick Food: –Tuna: We started with the jalapeño tuna sashimi appetizer, which I thought was pretty fresh, although the tuna was sliced particularly thin. The ponzu sauce poured over it was not overpowering and the jalapenos were sliced thin enough to not take over either. –Filet: The RW menu’s only steak option was the 6 oz filet. Initially I was worried that wouldn’t be enough, but it was actually very filling. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY… SO juicy and tender and buttery. None of us opted to add on a sauce or seafood topping to the steak and we were all still completely satisfied and happy with it – which I think is saying something. We added on sides(mushrooms and brussels). The sides weren’t really special, but they were solid. Everything is definitely cooked in butter… not that I’m complaining. –Buttercake: Ended the meal with the famous buttercake. Maybe I was full by then, but I wasn;t especially blown away. It was soft and gooey in the center, but the hard edges had a slightly stale texture to it. And, like the name suggests, it was REALLY heavy and buttery. All around buttery and rich meal, so don’t come in counting calories or you’re probably gonna leave depressed… Regular prices are pretty damn expensive, but I’d probably be back for that steakkk. It’s almost on par with Bourbon Steak!

We had an amazing experience at Mastro’s celebrating our anniversary. First, our server greeted us with an Anniversary card personally signed by the staff. The scallops were tantalizing to my taste buds and were accompanied by the creamed spinach side. The butter cake is sinful but so worth the calories. You must experience it at least once. Overall a great experience and would definitely come back again.

Where do i start??? Pros: We were welcomed and promptly seated for an eight person dinner. Quick service for water and our waiter along with his staff took very good care of us and were very attentive and aware of why we were there(birthday party). Excellent suggestions in regards to beverages and wine pairing for the 23oz bone-in ribeye I was about to devour. Mushrooms were delicious! Cons: Ambiance sucks! Just because it’s in DC, dark and over priced people will automatically think it’s the place to go… It’s not! The«live» music was entirely too loud(had to yell at the person sitting next to me, forget about talking across the Table) and we weren’t even in the bar area. The music it’s self sounded like a bad American Idol audition. All I wanted was a good steak cooked the way I like it(medium rare)… It came out raw on their fancy 400 degree plate… Even before I cut in to it I touched it to get an idea on how it was cooked… My finger almost went straight through… Sent it back and it came out charred and medium well… But thanks to their fancy plate… Ended up well done… YOUKNOWIFYOUJUSTCOOKITRIGHTTHEFIRSTTIMEYOUWOULDN’T NEEDFANCYPLATES! Once the steak was sent back a second time… The wait staff vanished… Ended up having to get a bus boy to get our waiter… Not once but twice. This is just another example of mindless cows walking off a cliff just because everyone else is doing it… Maybe if you stop going here they will take a hint and get people who know how to prepare a steak…

This place is amazing and simply superb! Went with some girlfriends and we had such a great experience. From the drinks, to the food and the music you really understand what you are paying for. This is tops down the nicest and elegant places in the DC area. I have been to several and nothing compares. The service is what I enjoyed the most. Make you feel like you are not a bother but a patron. Every few mins server or mangers are making sure you have everything you need and that is what I enjoy when I go to a restaurant. They also had a cover band that played all the latest music and they could sang! Beautiful voices. Last and not least, the freaking food! We had steak filet, lobster Mac and cheese, and the scalloped potatoes. Talk about phenomenal! Steak was so tender and juicy. All I have to say is that this is a must go to!

Came here on Christmas Day for a dinner with my gf. I asked for a table for 2, and the receptionist told me I had to make a reservation, but there is free seating at the bar. There was live music, and it was a bit loud, so I went to opentable and just made a reservation for 2 promptly and we got seated 10 minutes later. Kind of weird that she couldn’t just put us in the system, but whatever. If you want to get seated at the dining room, make a reservation before hand. The décor is beautiful and the menu is extensive. There were so many delicious items on the menu we honestly had a hard time settling on just a couple of food items. In the end, we ordered the Escargot, Beef Carpaccio, French Onion Soup, and a bone-in ribeye(22oz) to share. The cocktails were pretty expensive $ 20, for a cocktail, so we just settled on a bottle of wine instead, Adobe Red(Red Blend). It has blackberry and cherry flavors with a bit of spice, perfect for our steak and beef carpaccio. The escargot was served with a puff pastry, the puff pastry was very flakey, so flakey that it would fall apart if you picked it up. The escargot, was a bit bland. I’d probably skip this one the next time. The beef carpaccio was delicious! Our server made it easier for us to share and had the kitchen prepare 2 smaller plates of the beef carpaccio. Thank you my man! One of the best beef carpaccio’s I’ve had, served with arugula and capers. The meat quality was top notch. THEFRENCHONIONSOUP!!! Probably my favorite dish of the night, $ 12, and I would order another one if my stomach wasn’t so full! It had the perfect bread to cheese to soup ratio. A must order if you like french onion soup, Mastro’s does it right!!! The bone-in ribeye was cooked to my liking, med rare(closer to the rare side), it was served on a 400 degree plate, so you could even cook your steak up some more if you thought it was undercooked! It also helped kept the steak warm as you were eating it. What a way to eat steak. The flavor of the steak showcased the meat and the steak was delicious. The dry age process definitely made the steak taste more beefier?! For dessert we had the sorbet, it comes with 3 scoops and we opt’ed for a mix of 3 flavors. Mango, Raspberry and Limoncello. We were already super full by the end of the 4 dishes and the sorbet was a nice light way to finish this heavy meal. We did want to try the butter cake everyone was raving about, but it is huge and we definitely didn’t have room for it. I’ll definitely be back! They have valet parking for $ 12. TL;DR: French Onion Soup is a must get. Beef Carpaccio is delicious. Make a reservation if you want to get seated at the dining room.

I visited Mastro’s for the first time for my birthday on December 14th. Here’s my review: Ambience: High end, seductive, sexy and dark Food: 150%. I had the lobster bisque, 8 oz filet, lobster mashed potatoes, asparagus, creamed spinach, butter cake and chocolate cake. Service: 70%. Hated my waiter because he didn’t introduce himself by name, wasn’t attentive to my table and moved entirely too slow. Loved the support staff. The service took off a star. When I return I will definitely sit at the bar.

Really impressed with this establishment; came here with a big group for a birthday dinner and started off with some appetizers. 1) stuffed mushrooms(AMAZING) 2) seared tuna(oh god) 3) lobster cocktail(oh yes) Then came the entrees 1) porterhouse is by far the best I’ve had here(tried many of the different steaks from my friends) and they do cook the steaks to a T per request: Sides were exceptional. Lobster mash, asparagus, and many others(ordinary, just like everywhere else) THEDESSERTTHOUGH! Best cheesecake I have ever had! And service was beyond good, tip well deserved!

I took my friend here to celebrate her birthday. The ambience is nice and they have a lot of bar seating. As soon as I walked in I noticed they had live music and she was singing my moms fav song«Happy» by Pharell. Let me just say their live music was Everything!!! I want to hire them for my wedding. lol Now for the food.lol. I started with french onion soup and all I can say is «You talkin about sumthin gooood» LOL. Next I ordered the filet 8oz with creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. All of the sides are huge so make sure you share. I had some kind of strawberry martini which was deelish. All of the food was cooked to perfection. The waiter was not that attentive though and seemed to be in his own world. Also I asked for grilled onions for my filet and he said sure. However he did not mention that the onions would be considered a side and cost just as much as the other sides *insert angry face here* But the favorite part of my meal was dessert. lolol we got the butter cake and myyyyyyy god. It was soooo yummy. I cant even explain it… just order it. You will not be disappointed.

The hubs and I came here while in town for the Marine Corps Marathon. First of all, this place is beautiful. I was shocked that it wasn’t more crowded on a Saturday night. They also had great music playing in the bar area upstairs. We wanted to watch college football while we ate, so we asked to sit downstairs in the bar area and they were more than happy to seat us there. We had fantastic service. Our server was awesome, but we also had several others come up to us throughout the meal to check on how things were going. They really didn’t disappoint. First of all, the bread basket was awesome. Pretzel bread. YUM. We didn’t order an appetizer because we were so full on bread! For my meal, I ordered the pork chop with a side of brussel sprouts. The pork chop was the BEST I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly, super juicy and I could practically cut it with a butter knife. It was so, so good. The brussel sprouts were also delicious. Crispy and salty. The hubs ordered crab legs and a twice baked potato. Both were also delicious. And the best part of the meal… the butter cake. I had never had butter cake in my life but so many people raved about it on Unilocal that I had to try it. Not only was it HUGE, but it came with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream and a HUGE vat of whipped cream on the side. We only ate half of it and brought the rest back to our friends. OMG it was so good. Hands down, this is one of the best, if not the best, steakhouses I’ve ever been to(and the hubs worked at an amazing steakhouse for years)!

Two words… Butter Cake. But seriously, I’ve been to Mastro’s three times since they opened. The first of which was for one of their pre-opening parties. They literally rolled out the red carpet and guests were treated to glasses on top of glasses of champagne, along with any cocktail of your choosing. They had a tower of seafood that consisted of shrimp, crab legs, and oysters, all of which were amazing. For my birthday a group of 12 went for dinner. We had excellent service from the moment we arrived until we left. I love that they take the tag team approach where many servers assisted us so we were never left wanting for anything. I ordered the 8oz filet mignon served Oscar style. I love that their Oscar is actually a large crab cake instead of just a sauce with chunks of crab. If you go that route, I definitely recommend getting the smaller filet. All of the sides are delicious but the roasted Brussels sprouts by far were my favorite. Also the lobster bisque and spicy mambo salad are the perfect starters. If you favor cocktails, their drinks come in a shaker so know that you will have at least 2 servings. Just remember to not let it sit too long or it will become watered down. Lastly, although I was stuffed I couldn’t say no to their glorious warm butter cake. It’s a hefty portion so it could easily be shared by four people. If you’re greedy like me just share it with one other person. Tip: Unless you want to pay a premium for water($ 8/bottle) when they ask if you want still or sparkling just say tap is fine. Our group consumed like $ 60 worth of bottled water. That could have been another 3 Mastro’s margaritas, just saying. I’ve been back for Restaurant Week(an excellent deal) and a girls night out. Mastro’s is great for date night, a special occasion spot or just stop by the bar before starting your night. Just make sure you come dressed appropriately.

I HATESTEAKHOUSES! Well, at least I did. After tonight, however, I’m a changed man. Let’s face it… Every steakhouse promises THEBEST food — Ruth’s Chris… Mortons. Capital grill… Prime rib… Etc. Rarely do these guys actually deliver. At least to me they don’t. I can never justify the obscene prices they charge. But look we all know steakhouses are a complete ripoff. And Mastros is probably the most expensive of them all. But for the first time in my life I can actually say that the price was justified. I just dropped nearly $ 300 on a single meal with my wife. That’s what some people earn in a year. of course, Normally I’d regret doing something like that. BJ Not with Mastros. I’d gladly do it all over again. this is a «special event» kind of place. Unless your Donald trump you are not going to eat here often. But I must say, if you want to impress someone this is the place. The interior is sheik and modern. The lighting is perfect. The music is upbeat and oddly enough, not what you’d usually expect at a fancier restaurant like this. In other words if you enjoy classical or jazz music with your meal you may not enjoy eating here because they eclectic top 40 tunes. The service is impeccable. It doesn’t get any better. Special props to our waitress tonight, Clara, for making our experience so enjoyable. The food: I had the lemon ginger cocktail which was pretty good. My wife had a killer glass of Italian Pinot. The bread was incredible! A whole assortment of rolls and crisps to chow down on. I was getting full on the bread alone. Our appetizer was the burrata salad with heirloom tomatoes which was great but I can’t say Id recommend it simply because you can get something like that anywhere. For my entrée I had the 12 oz filet and my wife had the 8oz portion. Both were cooked medium. These steaks were insanely good. But The sides were even better… Sautéed mushrooms… Brussels sprouts and gnocchi! We then capped our evening with the butter cake. I gained approximately 2 lbs after eating this meal. So If your on a diet do not come here because I can literally feel the butter and cream clogging my heart. My fingers are almost getting to fat to even type this review. But again if your looking for a divinely rich steakhouse meal I can’t thing of how it can get any better than Mastros.

My husband and I came here for dinner on Saturday for DC restaurant week. I was able to easily make a reservation online and we were greeted warmly and promptly by the valet and then the hostess. I knew coming here that the food would be delicious but I was not prepared for the impeccable service. Probably the best service of any restaurant I have been to. When we first arrived it was a little early and we were led into the bar area to be seated for dinner. At first I was skeptical of this location(still not entirely sure why we were seated there) but it turned out to be fun. There was live music that was really great and it was a good people watching scene. Our server was great and explained the menu to us and provided some drink recommendations. We started with the Elderflower Martini and the Skinny Diablo. We took part in the restaurant week menu which was an amazing value. We started with the french onion soup and the Mambo salad(a spicy Cesar salad) and their warm freshly made bread basket(yum carbs!) We both went with the filet and both were cooked to perfection and were melt in your mouth. We also elected to order a side of potatoes au gratin to share and they were rich and decadent(in a good way). For dessert my husband opted for the key lime pie and I went with the butter cake. Both were perfect but that butter cake was absolutely delicious! Rich and dense and the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I cannot emphasize how good the service was here. Our server was attentive without hovering, all of the busers knew and remembered our orders and were quick with clean up. We even had a good time chatting with the valet while we waited for our car at the end of the night, they even offered to take some pictures of my husband and I. All around a great night!

Ahh the steaks are fabulous here! We started at the bar with a round of drinks while we waited for our reservation time. The bar was dark, I mean like, I almost considered pulling my phone flashlight out so I could read the menu. The singer in the corner was adding her own smoke and sexy to some current songs and a few oldies. No purse hooks under the bar, boooo, but there were outlets for emergency charges which was nice. The cocktails were expensive and ran about 15 – 20. As other’s mentioned, wine is seriously marked up too. I got a mule and it was pretty standard. Bartenders were on the aloof side. At our reservation time we made our way back to their very friendly host station to get seated. We made our way back through and to our table in the main dining room which was also equally dark. Interior was typical steakhouse feel and it the dining room was nearly full on a Thursday evening. The food was all fabulous. Seriously. Mastro’s knows their beef. Started with bone marrow and the shrimp cocktail. The bone marrow was delicious. Super tasty but the inside part wasn’t very deep and there wasn’t a whole lot of it as far as bones marrow goes. I was sad it was done so soon. The scramps(count 3) were massive and really above average. To add to the fun, they poured liquid nitrogen(?) over it so it came out super smokin. The cocktail sauce is no joke. That sauce will clear out your sinuses and maybe your brain with your first bite. For steaks, we got the bone-in ribeye and the bone-in filet. I’ll be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve had a steak that awesome. It was melt in your mouth awesome. I got the filet and it was just so tender. The bone-in ribeye was a hulking fatty piece of flavor goodness. We received the lobster mashed potatoes and shoestring fries as sides. Both were massive. I think sharing one would have been a better idea. The lobster mashed potatoes must have had 6 – 7 lobster claws in it and was decadent and rich. The shoestring fries were well shoestring fries. We had the butter cake and cheesecake for dessert. I’ll be honest, everyone was going crazy for the butter cake in the reviews, I looked at the picture and it just didn’t look as good as it sounds. Well… it was really fantastic. Don’t judge this book by its cover. The cheesecake was also good but the butter cake blew the cheesecake out of the water. Service was very friendly although not very polished. Timing while not a huge issue was not seemless for what it should have been. It was my birthday dinner, and while not a huge deal, the table next to us got a candle and all with dessert but our server must have forgotten. My date was a bit perturbed but I told him it’s no big deal. Overall, I think this along with Bourbon are doing the best steaks in DC. This definitely will be a new go-to steak spot for special occasions! (Valet is available… either $ 12 or 16 can’t remember… there is an advertised dress code that while encouraged was definitely not followed)

Where do I start?! I know where … this is a very expensive restaurant. I was so shocked by the pricing, I initially inquired about a happy hour menu or any specials … lol. However, you pay for what you get … top quality food! This restaurant has everything going for them: engaging ambience and quality food. I went there for dinner on a Wednesday, we had a good time. Their portions are HUGE — so my friend and I shared everything: house salad, signature warm buttercake, 24 oz porterhouse steak, and lobster mashed potatoes. They also had a 2-piece band(pianist and singer) who were beyond amazing! I recommend dining at this restaurant if you recently received your tax return refund or borrowed money from your 401 K … lol. The only thing I would slightly improve is my waiter’s customer service. My waiter appeared very snooty and like a know-it-all. He just didn’t appear very sincere and gracious. However, their hosts and servers were fantastic — charming and funny! They really cater to the entire dining experience. This is definitely the best steakhouse in DC! This steakhouse rivals the top steakhouses in Chicago! Extremely high quality food! I’ll definitely be back … with a potential sugar daddy in tow!

5 star for the appetizers 4 star for the entrees and sides We came as a large group, so we split a bunch of food amongst ourselves. For appetizers, we ordered the baked oysters, scallops, crab stuffed mushrooms, some kind of sashimi, I tomatoes with what I believe is asiago(I don’t remember exactly anymore, and the menu is not online). I remember loving them all! The crab stuffed mushrooms prob lead the pack in terms of my favorite though. I ordered the bone-in ribeye with butter on top for my entrée. One of my friends got a different cut(which I was able to get a picture of) but I think his may have been better. Both steaks were savory though. Our sides consisted of the creamed spinach and lobster mashed potatoes. I would order both again. I was able to try some of the lamb chops too. Those weren’t as good as the steaks imo. Service was excellent for the most part. Quick with drinks, constantly checking on us, and the gave me a free birthday dessert platter. The only time the service was slacking was towards the end when they were doing the bill. We sat around for quite a while looking lost and ready to go, lol. Not too big of a deal though.

Definitely 5 stars all around! I came here for my birthday dinner and was greeted with birthday wishes and a card from the staff. How thoughtful! We were escorted to our table and from the time we sat down to the time we left, our every whim was catered to! For starters, the dream berry was absolutely delicious! Best tasting cocktail I’ve had in a while. We ordered the shrimp tempura, which was amazing! Whew! Honestly after the shrimp tempura, we were already stuffed! We also ordered house salads prior to our main courses. I ordered the petite filet and my handsome date ordered the bone-in ribeye. We also shared the brussel sprouts and LOBSTERMASHEDPOTATOES!!! The steaks were cooked to perfection and the lobster mashed potatoes were absolutely DELICIOUS! WOW! ITWASWORTHEVERYBITE! Let me also mention the fact that we had a very attentive server and Isabella came over quite often to ensure that we were having an awesome dining experience. We topped off dinner with the AMAZING signature BUTTERCAKE!!! You MUST order this when you dine here. It is the BEST I’ve ever had!!! Hats off to this amazing restaurant and staff(special thanks again to Isabella!!!)!! You made my birthday dinner celebration one to always remember! Another nice touch was the follow up call to my handsome and hot date asking about our experience. TOPNOTCH.
