this place is the worst, on every level. because they took my insurance i went there to get glasses, but it would have been cheaper and better if i just went literally anywhere else– i got both prescription sunglasses and regular prescription glasses. Infuriatingly, the store refused to honor a competitors lower price for the glasses i wanted, AND they refused to honor their own websites lower price for those frames (it was $ 70 cheaper online than in the store).
My normal glasses got scratched almost immediately, which makes me question the quality of the actual lenses since its not like i was handling sharp objects and running around with knives near my eyes.
A year and a month after the warranty expired, the prescription sunglasses started to flake, and i was told i was SOL because the warranty had literally just expired.
This place offers very little service and very little quality for the service you get, all for a premium price tag. go elsewhere, you’ll be happy you did.

I’m rarely ever inclined to write a review, but this one is a must say. The people at this store are just horrible and they just want your money! Stupid me did not check the reviews before I came b/​c I just wanted to get things done b4 my insurance expire, but that’s clearly a mistake.
I wanted to get some contacts, and was told I needed a contact lens fitting. Well, except there wasn’t really one… Nobody helped me do anything. As he rushed out the door, the optometrist gave me a pair of contacts brand that are NOT even the ones he had prescribed me (who the hell does that?) to put on over a sink in the back of the storage room next to the bathroom. Seriously? I know space is limited in DC, but this is pretty sh*tty!
After putting on the lenses, my eyes burned so bad and I couldn’t even see as well as when I had my old prescription on. I just had to take them off and throw them away. When I went to pay for the eye exam (which comes mandatory with the contact lens fitting), I was charged for the contact lens fitting and told that my actual prescribed lenses will be ordered and I can come pick them up next week. WTF??? Having a bad experience so far, I proceeded to ask some questions. One is if the contact lenses that the optometrist prescribed me don’t work out when I’m traveling, within the 3 months period allowed in my contact lens fitting procedure, can I go to any MyEyeDr store near wherever I am to get a different one? Since my file is on the MyEyeDr network (and accessible regardless of which branch I’m at), this should be possible. The muscular African American dude, Terrence?, is quite nice, professional, and meek but he didn’t know the answer. But his coworker, the Middle Eastern/​Latino looking dude, is a WHOLE ‘NOTHER experience. This dude was just loud and aggressive in his demeanors. (He LOOKS and TALKS like that long haired guy named Bello with a huge drama queen attitude on America’s Next Top Model cycle 22. Quite an unpleasant experience!!!) He brushed my question aside and was like why would you do that? After pressing him saying that obviously if my eyes aren’t comfortable with the prescribed contact lenses, I need to get different ones, he said they can make a courtesy exception and allow me to do that elsewhere. Btch, Why the eff would I need your permission to consult another doctor? I’m not trekking back to DC, let alone this sh*tty store, just to get different lenses if the ones they prescribe me don’t work out.
*****(In fact, at the time I’m writing this review, I already called several other MyEyeDr branches, one of which coincidentally had the District Supervisor visiting, who confirmed that I don’t need none of this permission bs this mofo is lying through his teeth about).*****
Instead of just walking out the door without paying for the supposed contact lenses fitting, it was already 6pm and I didn’t want to argue if it meant getting out as fast as possible from this sh*t hole, so I paid and left.
Next week rolled around, I didn’t get any notification that my contact lenses (that I’m supposed to try on AT HOME instead of having a proper contact lens fitting at the store) have arrived. I called to check cuz it’s past 5 business days, and they told me yeah they’re here and I was notified with a text msg. What effing text msg??? I received nothing. These effing liars…
Just go somewhere else! Try to avoid this place like the plague!
The one plus about a chain is that they’re all over the East Coast (and in DMV area quite spread out) so it’s easy to just walk into one, but other than that, you’re generally better off going to an independent store if at all possible. With your insurance, you would get the same price and I bet a better experience elsewhere. If you need eye drops, they would probably have free trials for you. MyEyeDr won’t, I asked several times.

The staff here made the process of getting my first prescription and first pair of glasses friendly, easy to schedule, quick, and as cheap as I could hope for. I will definitely be a returning customer!

Besides the fact that (1) you can take one step inside the door and be in the alley out back, (2) they will take your eye measurements in street clothes, (3) they withhold pricing options, and (4) they’re not transparent about costs, its a nice, friendly shop. :)

Careful going here — they are very pushy salespeople, and somewhat dishonest. After an eye exam (the examining doctor was fine) they used my lens and frame credit with my insurance company WITHOUT my consent. When I went to get glasses at my local shop with the new subscription I was unable to — because they told my insurance they were going to do the glasses w/​out any sort of paperwork (or APPROVAL)! I called the insurance company to report them, and it took a few days to get it sorted out. The space is incredibly small with a minimal selection of glasses. My advice is find another shop that works with your insurance and don’t go through what I did!

I don’t like writing bad reviews, and I wouldn’t do it here if it didn’t present the opportunity to write a good review for another store, so here goes. I picked this MyEyeDr for an exam and to update my glasses lens because it’s right on my walk to work. The exam went fine, but the problems came when ordering glasses. I wanted to update my regular glasses and get a pair of prescription sunglasses. I was surprised when they said they could put prescription lenses in my current sunglasses, but glad because I like the style.
The sunglasses arrived first — but the lenses were two radically different prescriptions and clearly a big mistake, which they realized right away, apologized, and sent back. I didn’t even take a close look because they were clearly so f$&*ed up. I wanted them for a canoe race coming up but they assured me they’d be back in time with the correct prescription. In the meantime my regular glasses arrived and the prescription was far too strong. I tried to roll with it for a few days but no way jose, so when the corrected sunglasses were delivered I brought along the regular glasses to put my old prescription back in. Never got to that, however, because the sunglasses they gave me were a mess. The lenses didn’t even fit in there and were clearly about to pop out. After several staff and the manager examined the problem (and the lenses popped out a couple times) they finally agreed — these were not going to work because the frames were too curved. So they had gone ahead and taken my order, had the lenses made and installed, send them back once because of the incorrect prescription, and not until I complained did they finally acknowledge that there was no way this would work to use these frames. Obviously I was not going to have corrective lenses in time for the canoe race.
There was such an ambivalent response to my problem, so little concern for the customer and for getting it right, that I decided to quite while I was ahead and went to another My EyeDr around the corner on L street. Completely different story — redemption for MyEyeDr — see the review for that store. I cannot recommend this store on 18^th and I st. NW however. Poorly managed, poorly staffed, not customer-​focused. And i’m not one of those Unilocal whiners that always complains, this is legit no bueno.

I went to this location for the first time in spring. I had a bad allergy and some damages on my eye’s surface. The doctor gave me a prescribed eye drop. It worked very well. I believe they rotate doctors with other locations.
I went back again with same problem. Doctor did a very good job as always. She explains thoroughly and clearly.
Also, I went to get my eye exam. Not only checked they vision, but also eyes’ health and condition.
One more thing, Ashley, sale and assistant is very nice. Other staff are also friendly and helpful

This is the only my eye doctor location I have visited, for very good reason. I came for an eye exam on the recommendation of a co-​worker as the prescription for my contacts had expired.
When you first walk in, the layout can be confusing as there is no indication that the store functions both as a glasses store and eye doctor. After waiting and trying to grab someone’s attention for 15 minutes, an unintetested employee led me to a small dark hallway in which a few older eye testing machines were set up.
Once sat down, a girl in street clothes, who didn’t seem to know how to operate the equipment took my measurements. A guy who may or may not have worked there ate a cupcake and watched on. I consulted with the eye doctor who did the charts and assessed my vision. Hewas great but unfortunately only a small part of my experience at this location.
The doctor left the office shortly after exam to leave me with his inattentive staff to discuss options for contacts and glasses. Once they quoted me a far above market price for contacts, I left the location planning to order contacts online.
Turns out the office had given me the wrong (very wrong) prescription. When
contacted them to verify my prescription, the office corrected them with yet ANOTHER incorrect prescription. When my contact were received, the prescription was so off it was unbearable. I contacted the office and they offered to replace the lenses.
This was nice but not worth the lack of professionalism, detail and quality of office. Go somewhere else.

I personally hate going to the eye doctor even more than the dentist, but MyEye Dr. makes it as an enjoyable experience as possible. The waiting area has munchkins and coffee and your appointment usually begins on time. Every doctor I’ve had is very friendly and answers all my questions. Front desk staff is also very friendly and accommodating. During my last appointment, I didn’t want to get my eyes dilated since I had to go to work, but they made me a follow-​up appointment for the next week free of charge (I’m not sure if most places do this). They also beat online prices for contacts.

I went to this My Eye drs a year a go to use my living social voucher. Of course you believe you are getting a deal but you are really not. The selection of glasses is very limited and I had $ 300 in additional expenses. Fast forward a year later, I have lost my glasses and completely run out of contacts. I am getting married in two weeks out of the country and My Eye Drs refused to order me a one months supply of contacts to get me through my Wedding. I will never step foot in this establishment again. Very poor customer service.

I had a great experience at this location.
First of all I called and asked if they had any openings for an appointment and they were able to accommodate me that day in less than 2 hours.
I will say no one initially greeted me when I walked in so I just kept walking towards the back until I saw a «sign in» clip board. After I told the back desk person I had an appointment she immediately step up my exams and was very friendly, professional, and personable. I did a Wellness Exam which consists of about 3 different eye tests that lasted for about 5 minutes. Ask for extra wipes to clean the glasses/​machines off if you do not see them readily do it (I’m quite the germaphobe). I also had that new photo thing that they do for the retinal evaluation.
The eye doctor, Dr. Weatherly (I think) was pretty cool. She was friendly and answered all of my questions attentively and we had good dialogue. She performed the chart exam and analyzed my retinal pic on the monitor right on the spot leading me to be super impressed with her real-​time analysis. The whole thing with the Doc took maybe 10 minutes. She walked me out and politely handed me off to Monique (I think). Monique (I’m so bad with names but I’m 82% sure!) she is fantastic!!! Woohoo! She helped me pick out my glasses and was so friendly and helpful! She processed my prescription very timely and I received my glasses 5 days sooner than they had projected!
I received a text message that said ‘come and get ‘em’, basically. I walked in and was greeted immediately. Monique recalled who I was and which pair of glasses I had selected.
In and out with great customer service! Yay!
Btw, Pricing for exams and frames will depend greatly on which insurance you have, of course.

I usually go to the Capitol Hill location but stopped by here because it’s close to my work and my glasses just broke. I went on a Friday during the lunch hour and expected it to be crowded, but luckily I didn’t have to wait. Lauren was a huge help with finding me new glasses, and didn’t get annoyed when I couldn’t make a decision and kept changing my mind. She also helped me decide how to get the best deal, whether that meant using my insurance or not. Overall, it was a much better experience than expected.

I have been to several My Eye Drs and this one is the WORST. I arrived and there were several receptionists, none of whom bothered to greet me and then took their sweet time to give me paperwork and start my appointment, apparently something on their computer was much more intersting to watch.
When I saw the doctor she did not have any of my previous paperwork and had to ask me what my prescription was! I was told to put my contacts in so they could examine them, and was led to a ridiculously tiny and DISGUSTING bathroom/​ktichen/​closet. It was so gross I didn’t want to wash my hands for fear of touching the faucet handle.
At the end of my appointment I was told they would order trial lenses for me. Two weeks later and I still have not received them. I have called SEVERAL times and am always told that I will be called back shortly with an answer. Only received an answer after I began to make quite the fuss, and was told that my contacts were never shipped.
I will NEVER go back to this location. May not even return to a My Eye Dr. after this experience.

This office is incompetent!
I had an exam. They somehow lost the prescription and did not write it on the chart. They now want to do another exam.
Do not trust this office. Go anyplace else!

It is okay. The hours are convenient. Everyone is super friendly & helpful when you first come in but you have a problem and really do need help with something, you are pretty much stuck like Chuck.
Refunds are not possible here, they only give store credit, so make sure you have them itemize everything before they charge you for anything! Go over your receipt with a fine tooth comb before you leave to be sure that you are happy with what you got. They put me in some overpriced contacts the ones I had been using were just fine. I went back the very next day to fix the order and get the more affordable contacts.
Keep in mind, I just changed the order, I still didn’t walk out with anything that day.
Foolish me, I assumed that they would have refunded my card for the difference, but I was wrong and they don’t do refunds. Oh well. Now I know. So, I’ll use my credit & now I know not to return to another My Eye Doctor location. Lesson learned.

This is a second time I have come into this store. First time several years ago to purchase glasses and today coming as a friend to the customer. Our experience was great. First, Jennifer Ware was the soul person there. She was managing the customers, the phone and a delivery person. She stayed upbeat the entire time, very patience, friendly and had great customer service skills. I would highly suggest coming to this location. Pierre you should be very proud of your staff. When it’s time for me to get another pair of glasses, I will be coming to this location. Thanks again for great service.

I went in today for a contacts exam. I previously went to a different eye doctor in VA who was pretty terrible – she rushed me through the eye exam, so I was never sure if my Rx was correct, and she didn’t take her time explaining proper contact lens care to me. My experience at My Eye Doctor today was MUCH BETTER. Dr. Auyeung was very patient and did not rush through the exam at all. He let me take my time during the part of the exam where I choose which lens is better, and he took the time to explain proper contact lens care with me. He was professional, thorough, and very nice and personable. I will go back to him next time I need an eye exam of any sort.
The sales staff was also very friendly and willing to help me. Like many of the other posters, I am also very picky about my frames, and took quite a bit of time trying to make a decision. I picked out several pairs, and Clark, as well as other staff members, gave me their opinions on which looked best. I picked out a gender neutral frame that I’m pretty happy with. I do wish the selection had more styles that I liked, but it is probably not the store’s fault. I think maybe I just have a hard time with women’s frames lately with all the stupid embellishments, bling, and swirly flowery crap to sort through. I think I am also just still hung up on a perfect Prada tortoise frame that I lost last year and can’t find anywhere.
Clark was also patient and worked with me on pricing. A word of advice: it might not make sense to buy their living social deal; it might or might not be a waste, depending on what you need. My living social deal ended up being a waste since it was cheaper for me to get their basic package which includes the contacts exam and a year of contacts, gives you 50% off a frame and 50% of glasses lenses (which is $ 244 before discount…), lets you replace torn contacts at no charge, and gives you a free pair of designer sunglasses! FREE SUNGLASSES! haha very exciting. but you pick them out of a drawer of random sunglasses and you may or may not find something that suits your style in there. but, hey, who doesn’t like free stuff?
In summary, the doctor is patient and thorough, the staff is friendly and helpful, the selection is pretty good depending on what you like, and I suppose pricing is reasonable as these things go.

It was my first time at My Eye Dr. because I bought groupon deal. The experience was amazing. The doctor and the staff were very nice. I’m a very picky and detailed person when it comes to glasses. Clark, the staff was very patient to help me to pick out the eyeglasses that fit my limited budger.
The eyeglasses were supposed to take 5 business days, but I already got phone call from the office to pick my glasses after only 2 days.
Definitely recommend this location.

I had my first eye exam ever yesterday, so I don’t have much to compare to, but overall the experience here was a positive. Dr. Spellman was wonderful. She took time to explain everything to me, but at the same time was very efficient. I didn’t buy glasses from here, so I can’t really touch on the selection.
My only complaint was that I had a 5:00 appointment and I arrived at 4:55. I’d tried to do my history online before my visit as instructed and their site seemed to be down. When I arrived and told them this they said they’d been having troubles with it. I waited until 5:12 and still hadn’t been acknowledged regarding getting started. I had to be somewhere at 6:00, so I explained that I was in a hurry and inquired about when I’d be seen. They apologized and explained they were running a bit behind and were pretty quick to get me into the pre screening and ultimately into the office to see the doctor.
I can also appreciate the fact that I was JUST here to get a prescription and was never hassled to buy glasses from them.

I was a little skeptical about going to chain to get a new contact prescription, as I’ve been spoiled my entire life with pretty dang comprehensive healthcare. Alas, I’m no longer a college student, and I don’t have insurance.
My Eye Dr.‘s website has a pretty decent website where you can find coupons… I would suggest using them! I paid $ 119 for a contact lens exam and a three month supply of Acuvue Oasys contacts. And this is a pretty good deal, considering a general eye exam (when I called around) was generally in the range of $ 150; contact lens fittings were extra.
The store itself was well-​stocked with a variety of frames, but since I was there for contacts, I only glanced through them. The staff is wonderfully helpful and friendly. They accepted my coupons without hesitation and made sure I had all the relevant information for my next visit. They also called a day in advance of my next appointment to remind me, and were able to move my appointments around because of my schedule.
I made about 3 – 4 visits because I tried out a new brand of contact lenses and the ultimately decided to switch back to my original brand. Throughout all of my indecision, they were very accommodating and did not try to push a certain brand on me. To be honest, I was a little surprised, but pleasantly so! I also paid up front, and there was never any confusion among the staff on my subsequent visits about whether or not I had paid yet. Again, amazing.
Dr. Spellman is very personable and answered all of my questions. I would recommend her.
