I like the idea of a local Latin bakery in the neighborhood, but unfortunately their goods are just okay. I came in to buy a cup of coffee and pastry for breakfast. My coffee tasted a bit burnt and not very fresh. Same with the pastry in terms of freshness. It tasted a bit dry and stale. Other reviewers seem to have had fresher experiences here, so maybe I’ll return one day and give them another chance.

The staff here is nice but their products are terrible. I was so excited about the giant chocolate glazed donut I bought, only to be so disgusted after one bite that I had to throw it in the trash. It was like cardboard dipped in Hershey’s syrup.(The loaves of bread we also got weren’t any better.) I’m a sweets/pastry fiend and for me to toss something after the first bite really says something.

I’d read the other reviews before going in here, but I have to say I was not impressed in the least. The donut I bought, a chocolate covered donut with coconut sprinkles on top, looked delicious and light and fluffy, but was dry and almost hard as a rock. I took one bite within 15 minutes of buying it, so it didin’t get stale overnight. It was stale to begin with. Couldn’t believe they had the nerve to sell it. The two sugar cookies with colored sprinkles on top were OK, also a little dry but not unedible(unlike the donut, which I immediately threw away). They may be giving the place a new coat of pink paint on the outside, but they’re going to have to make some changes inside if they want to compete with the far superior Le Caprice half a block away. And no, the cheap prices at Pan Lourdes don’t make up for them selling stale goods. You get what you pay for.

First, let me say I came in at around 1 in the morning, so I am thinking most of the selection had been sitting out all day and gotten stale. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but speak limited English and I speak almost no Spanish so that was a bit of a stumbling block. Their portions are HUGE and CHEAP. I had a giant slab of what appeared to be a yellow cake. It was just ok(again, I am sure it was baked in the morning and was reaching the end of its shelf life). I will certainly go back during more of their peak hours — cute little place, and I like supporting a local business. Free WiFi as well.

Great selection– within walking distance of Columbia Heights metro. The breads were delicious, and the perfect amount of sweet!!! However, the leftovers were stale within 10 hours after purchase– eat them quickly, and enjoy :) Customer service was excellent– kind and courteous. Don’t pass this little place up :) for .60 cents a treat, it’s a bargain.

I went here based on the reviews. I dont know if it was because I went at like 6PM or what, but my baked goods tasted like they had been sittign there for days. In fact my fiancé said that the cake«tastes like fridge.» I will not be returning. The lady behind the counter was nice though, especially if you speak a little spanish :)

Huge selection, and all of the items are very cheap and delicious. I haven’t tried the coffee but it’s very popular. For a few bucks you can leave with a lot of delicious.

I love this place! Delicious, cheap baked goods and excellent coffee. Perfect for a weekend morning. There are big metal bowls and tongs for the pick-your-own section, which makes it extra fun. We had something that looked like bread pudding and some kind of eggy bread– both were very tasty! This place is definitely worth walking one extra block past the corporate mayhem of Columbia Heights to get a genuine taste of the neighborhood.

Pan Lourdes is one of my favorite things about Columbia Heights! Very, very kind staff and delicious pastries and coffee. Also, this place has free Wifi which is great. It is never as crowded as Starbucks or Sticky Fingers and is extremely affordable.

Pan Lourdes has the best cup of coffee in DC. It’s incredibly affordable and the people who work there are very kind. Definitely worth avoiding the line at Starbucks or Columbia Heights Coffee.

Boo, I wanted to be first! But, it’s good to see there are more fans of this place on Unilocal than i thought. Because you know, in addition to any civic brownie points for frequenting mom and pops in the neighborhood, the more customers here, the fresher the goods will be! The prices here are SO low you can afford to try out every different style of baked good. When I just want coffee and a pastry, I come here. If I need space to study, I go elsewhere as this place is small and only has 2 tables with a few chairs near the window. There are usually one or two other patrons hanging out. The baked goods go stale pretty quickly, which isn’t a bad thing and I like to think is a sign of freshness and not being filled with tons of preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce(which I can’t guarantee for Starbucks down the street). It does encourage you to eat them immediately!

3.5 stars It made me remember«la panaderia de la esquina» as you would call small neighborhood bakeries in Colombia. +s Typical Latin bakery treats Very, very cheap Good seating space Conveniently located near metro stop … on the way home! –s They don’t sell any whole wheat, grainy anything :(

Oh my goodness is this place a find. As Andrew W. notes the selection really is astounding but then confused by the lack of signage. Lots of items are in the ‘who knows’ areas if it’s your first time bumping up against them. Unfortunately I don’t speak any Spanish and the lovely woman who helped me with my purchase only knew the names and ingredients en Español. I got some bread pudding and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were simply delicious and the combined cost was a mere $ 2.15. I’m also really excited about the freshly baked bread. I’ve been fantasizing about a real bakery coming into the area and this might be even better. Stop by the next time you’re hiking over to Taqueria Distrito Federal. You won’t be disappointed.

I can also recommend the bread pudding, and corn bread, as well as the fruit muffins, which you can find in the display case. They have a nice amount of filling, almost like little pies or fruit popovers. The décor is pretty spare, so you probably won’t want to go to sit, relax, and do your work(a la Tryst).

I’ve only had a few pastries here, but they were quite good and very cheap. The selection is overwhelming so I asked the lady what to get and she recommended the bread pudding, which was good. I also picked a random item under the counter, which turned out to be a pastry filled with pineapple, and it was very good — and only 66 cents. I was shocked. They have bottled drinks and coffee, but no iced coffee or Cuban or Puerto Rican style coffee, unfortunately. But hey, for cheap and tasty baked goods, it’s worth a visit.
