RedRocks Columbia Heights

RedRocks is one of my favorites (actually, it’s pretty much my favorite). Good prices and surprisingly good food, especially at brunch. The pizza is very good by DC standards, but perhaps not by New York standards. What I like most about the place is its unassuming vibe, complete with a great patio and rustic row-​house feel. I’ve had a few parties upstairs, which is easy to reserve for a large group without any required minimum. All in all, this place is my jam.

I’ve been a Red Rocks fan since they were established. I have to say my most recent visit yesterday to the original location last night was disappointing. Food was delicious, but service was off. My entrée came before my appetizer. So I cancelled the appetizer. They then brought the appetizer. I though the server would just offer it to me on the house instead of trashing it, but she took it away since I had cancelled it. I’m going to stick with H Street, which has become my favorite location.

Came here for brunch to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday! I am glad we had a reservation because it was pretty crowded (typical for a Sunday brunch here). We opted for bottomless mimosas and were pleased to get a carafe on the table instead of having to wait for the waitress to refill us. We got the sunrise pizza and the breakfast panino. Both were great but I found myself adding some hot sauce here and there to add a little more flavor to it. The hashbrowns were delicious (can hashbrowns be bad?). Also love the various bottomless options (regular, bellini, and blood orange). Would like to find a time to go back for happy hour and sit outside to see the post-​brunch vibes here.

Being from Colorado, the name RedRocks spoke to us… then we ate there. The food was fresh, the service great and the prices unexpectedly low. We will be back!

This is one of my favorite pizza places in DC undoubtedly. The oven cooks the pizza at 700 degrees and has the best thin crust and toppings. From the cheese to the toppings and their wonderful combinations, you can’t lose. Their meatballs are amazing, too. Drinks are off the charts, too.

A year and a half ago I went to Red Rocks on a first date. I told the the guy we had to go to Red Rocks because it was awesome, it’s a neighborhood gem. We had a great time, the service was great and the food was yummy as always, you can’t beat their pizza. We went back yesterday to celebrate our engagement and the staff was great! Thanks Spencer for the drinks, you made our night special! Red Rocks Rocks!!!

Walked here with my bf and his parents for dinner. We ordered beers and a few pizzas. I like this location because it’s more of a restaurant as opposed to the club-​ish Red Rocks on H. I also enjoy the patio space and the Monday half-​price bottle of wine. I ordered the Funghi (mushroom) 9″ pizza and added pesto. Delish.

Food was average, service was decent. But then, after we paid and were chatting for a bit, we were literally asked to swap our table with some people sitting at the bar as they were ‘waiting for a table’. This has never happened to me or my friends before, it was insulting, disrespectful and not decent.
We would have left in 5 minutes anyway, there was no subtlety in the way we were asked to leave really. Of course the people who are waiting are more important than the people who have already paid. I am appalled. But then, perhaps we were expecting a certain amount of class where it was hard to find.

So many screaming children — basically a Chuck-​E-​Cheese — way to alienate folks in the neighborhood. Also, pizza was meh and garlic knots came in a puddle of grease.
Unilocal HQ took this down because it didn’t «give enough detail about [my] customer experience.» Unsure what more they need to know — all of the food was mediocre at best — the fungi pizza and garlic knots. Also, the atmosphere was horrific — multiple screaming children. I think this is very relevant to folks in the neighborhood who are looking for a child-​free environment. However, if you have kids, and like Chuck-​E-​Cheese, this may very well be a five star place for you.
Oh, and they were out of 3 of the beers on their list, so that was also a disappointment.

Service was a little slow, but the brunch food is good and the mimosas are great.
Good spot in Columbia Heights and plenty of seating.

Any time I can get a coffee, a Bloody Mary and a solid brunch entrée for $ 30 in DC I am a very very happy woman. That’s exactly what I got here. The Bloody Mary with basil infused vodka was spicy and tasty. The lemon ricotta pancakes were deliciously lemon-​y and the red rocks hash was the perfect savory compliment. I kept seeing the croissants and the pretzel baguette sandwiches pass by and I have to say I am definitely tempted to go back and try them. They have bottomless mimosas for 15 as well, if you’re into that. Pretty good service too. It started getting crowded around 12 though and since its small I’d recommend a reservation.

I’d say it’s a pretty average pizza place. It does the job that it’s meant to… good beer and decent pizza. We got the RedRocks sausage and the Funghi pizzas. There only thing about the funghi pizza was that the garlic was quite coarsely chopped/​sliced, leading to some pieces of garlic which were slightly on the undercooked side. It’s just a good thing I like garlic, so I wasn’t terribly upset. Service was good, so we didn’t have any complaints there. There are also specials on mondays for half off bottles of wine and on tuesdays 30% off belgian wheat beers.

Great pizza. Nice place to have a good beer after work. I must say I do like the location in VA a littler better. They also have a good happy hour.

In the blizzard of 2016, Laura was our server, and she made our brunch an incredible memory. She was fully committed to making our time there as great as possible. Thank you redrocks and Laura. You guys rock and we will be back

Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning.
The food was good: I got the deluxe with lemon ricotta pancakes, prosciutto, 2 eggs and hashbrowns. My friends got pizza and bruschetta and more Deluxe. The breakfast piece was good but I thought the portion of the hashbrowns was a little bit small. The pizza was thin and liquidy so if that’s the ones you like, you’ll like these but if not, you’re out of luck.
The service was really slow. Sure, it was busy but our waiter almost never came by unless we waved him down for everything –taking orders, refills, checks, everything.
They have a cuter little seating area outside so that’s a plus on a nice day. They are also bigger than they look because they have 2 floors so the 2^nd floor can fit larger groups. The 1^st floor can be a little cramped with back to back seats.

I have passed by here on several occasions and just knew I’d have to try it out at some point. It didn’t disappoint when in the first five minutes there a little boy was showing off on his guitar to us! :)
FOOD — The garlic knots are not as garlic-​y as I hoped ($ 6), but I did enjoy my RedRocks Sausage pizza ($ ¹³⁄₁₇)… although I must admit my pizza cravings were on a high that day and it came up short. I want to love this place since it’s in my neighborhood, but I find the experience to be greater than the food itself.
AMBIANCE — On the smaller end and a little cozy, but I like it. The inside is nice while the outside is perfect for summer.
Overall, this is a place that is much better for pizza cravings convenience in the Columbia Heights area.

We were craving pizza on a date night, and ended up @ RedRocks with memories of being there a few years before and liking it. We ordered two small pizza’s and a few beers. They have a good beer list, with a few hard to find belgian options that were nice to see.
The pizza was okay, crust was a bit thick for my liking and the sauce has absoulutelt no flavor. We would probably come back here is invited, but wouldn’t make a special trip for a date night.

This is a great location for brunch. I mostly say this because of the outdoor seating. I got a plate with French toast, chorizo and something else I can’t remember. I did not enjoy the French toast at all.
I’d still recommend this place as I’ve been there before and it doesn’t disappoint.

this is one of my favorite places in DC! the outdoor patio is cute and great for people watching, inside is clean and nicely decorated, the staff is super nice and the food is SO good. I highly recommend their brunch RedRocks hash. so so good.
I have been here 3 times now, and feel like I’ll probably be a regular fairly soon.
it’s a little bit tight on the inside, but I think that’s where it gets its charm.
price wise, I’d say it’s pretty average for DC. I got a 9 inch pepperoni pizza and two beers for like ~$ 25.

Came here with my parents who were in town and well, meh, I’ve experienced better. I made an Open Table reservation for a Saturday night (you never know) and when we got there the hostess asked me if we had one, I said yes, gave her my name, and she sat us down. The next day I got an email from Open Table telling me that the restaurant said I was a no-​show and explaining to me the proper etiquette of canceling a reservation. So that was annoying, but not the reason why I’m giving this place 2 stars. The 2 stars are because of the service. We were essentially rushed into ordering, had to ask for water/​drink refills several times and everything came out super quickly. The speed is ok, but there was no time to finish our appetizers before the entrees showed up. Overall not rushing to go back, the food was good, but not great, and the service left us wishing for more.

I was craving pizza during my visit earlier this month and didn’t want to travel far. During a walk back to where I was staying I ran across RedRocks. I ordered one of their pizzas to go and a pomegranate martini with Grey Goose. My drink was on point. My pizza, not so much. For whatever reason, I didn’t realize that my pizza wouldn’t have any red sauce; in fact, I don’t believe there was any sauce at all. So it was very dry. Tasty, yes. But dry.
Service was friendly enough. Layout is cool. Seems like it’d be good for a Friday outing to end the work week. Maybe I’ll return once I move in the neighborhood.

Excellent thin-​crust pizza with fancy toppings, fancy drinks, gorgeous patio on 11^th Street. Bueno, approaching buenisimo. Very competent service, if a bit aloof. Great location — this should be your go-​to pizza date, if you live in CoHeights.

We split a pizza and had a beer. It was pretty good, but pretty small for the price. Oh and we had the garlic knots, which were average. I enjoyed sitting outside though.

Place is really small, luckily there is upstair seating to fit a few more tables. The pizza was quite good. We got seating on the second floor. Stairs were a bit steep but made it safely up and down. Got a seat by the window, view was pretty good. Service was ok… Servers didn’t come up as often as we were upstairs.

I really love this location of RedRocks. Not a fan of the H st one though.
I love the pizzas and appetizers here. In fact, everything I’ve had here has been very good.
Try the Fungi pizza… it’s ADDICTIVE, I’m warning you. And the charred Brussels sprouts is next level with the anchovy — tastes even better the next day after it’s been in the fridge overnight — it’s weird but true: P The meatball al forno is also flavorful and hearty, but it’s a small portion. I love the beet salad — it’s fresh and a pretty big portion.
However, I think the prices are pretty high.

I wouldn’t have written this review if I hadn’t ordered and eaten the breakfast panino. RedRocks seems to be just a random kind of place with casual and friendly service and strong mimosas and generic wooden chairs. Kind of forgettable, really. Except I did get the breakfast panino, and it was delicious.
I read «Two eggs over medium, bacon, avocado, tomato slices and herbed goat cheese on toasted sourdough baguette, served with a side of breakfast potatoes» for $ 12 on the online menu the day before, and I was sold. I learned that RedRocks is a pizza place, but their brunch menu isn’t pizza focused and has a wide variety of reasonably priced brunch food (except a side croissant with jam and butter for $ 4.50 – my friends and I had a laugh about that). My friends got some other food – they have lemon-​ricotta pancakes, which sound interesting – but let’s be honest. We’re here to talk about the breakfast panino.
The bread was both soft and sturdy. The goat cheese was herbed as promised and added a memorable texture and taste. Obviously avocados and bacon are always delicious. And the eggs weren’t that messy and didn’t get all over my hands. What more can I ask for? The breakfast potatoes were also good – chunky skin-​on potatos with some herbs and a few veggie pieces thrown in.
Like I said, the mimosas are strong, and you can get 2 hour bottomless for $ 15. The atmosphere kind of reminded us of the bars in our college town – everyone had that sleepy but fresh faced look, and the staff was young and chit chatty with each other, hollering across the restaurant about who had the best handwriting to write the beer specials on the chalkboard. Anyway, I would go again. But we all know why.

I don’t have a lot to say about this place; it’s just down the street from my friend’s house and I was hungry one night. So I strolled to RedRocks to get a pizza to go.
First the bad: the door is unmarked and I was confused about how to enter. Seriously, the front door looks like the front door of somone’s apartment. They need to fix that. :-) And, it took FOREVER for my pizza to come up.
Now the good: the pizza was really, really good. Clearly it had just come out of the oven, it wasn’t greasy and the sauce and pizza were both delicious.
I’d go back for the food.

This place was okay! I really didn’t like the environment of the places and the service
Our service took forever to take our food order and such.
Then I ordered Verde; oh goodness it’s spicy. I usually like spicy but I think this one was too spicy! :/​
I don’t think I’ll ever come back here unless it’s necessary.

The qualifier is that I’ve only done carryout from here, and it looks to be a very nice neighborhood location to eat at. The pizza itself, though, delivered one of those «that’s it?» experiences. Was it good? Sure, but the sauce/​cheese/​dough did not sing to me the way a 2 Amy’s pizza does, the spicy peppers weren’t great in number, and it wasn’t fully satisfying. Nor were the garlic knots quite as mouthwatering as I’d hoped. And for these prices, stuff had better be fantastic.
The other knock I have on this place is that it’s awfully tough to get to. Walkable from the Metro, but trying to drive through this neighborhood is such a pain in the ass and parking is a challenge (things that I expect in the ritzier downtown parts of DC, but which unfortunately have become characteristic of Columbia Heights as well).
They do mark for vegan and gluten-​free options, which is a plus. I wouldn’t hesitate to return or try one of their other locations if I was in the area and needed something to please a group, but it falls short of what I’d consider a destination spot, in comparison to other Neapolitan pizza places in the District.

Saturday Brunch — here is the lowdown.
Go here, order a mimosa, if you are feeling crazy, order unlimited mimosas. Don’t be freaked out when they come in a weird glass.
Next — order the hash. Eat it in 3 minutes. Order a side of brandy soaked French toast. Admire your friends locked and loaded sunrise pizza — remind yourself that you are full and don’t need that.
Lick your fingers, pay the check, and definitely come back again.
Red rocks is definitely Down to Clown.

Yum. Came here with a buddy and got the garlic knots (yes, like you may have had elsewhere… they’re magic!) and a couple pizzas:
— Funghi, plus chicken apple sausage, which was «pretty good,» annnnnnd…
— Margherita pizza including buffalo mozzarella, with prosciutto. AMAZING. But if you know buffalo mozzarella you already knew that. GET IT.

Popped in on a Saturday night, rather early actually at 6:15 pm, and there were only two tables left in the patio. I chose this is because my dog can stay outside in the patio. The food is not bad, the service is efficient, and they always bring water for my dog. The menu is nothing that I would spectacular, but this is a solid reliable Italian pizza joint you could go in the hood. I had the Salmon & Goat Cheese Bruschetta (4 pieces for $ 9 — great value). Mixed Green — the vinaigrette dressing was balanced, and the RedRocks Sausage Pizza, there is a bit of a punch to it, with the pepper, but I wish there were more sausages to it.
No doubt I will be back,

I liked red rocks, but I didn’t love it. I came here for happy hour with coworkers and it was only satisfactory.
Their happy hour is pretty long (4 – 7 PM) which is good and their outdoor eating is lovely. Parking can be tricky but generally can be found with some work and doesn’t cost money. I found the service to be meh. I didn’t think the server was very personable and he hovered a bit too much. Also although very few people were there, he made a big deal about making us only sit at specific tables.
The happy hour deals on drinks were a bit limited in my opinion. Rather than «$ 2 off on any draft,» they offered deals on particular beers (Brooklyn lager and peroni). I enjoyed the pomegranate martini for $ 7 but it wasn’t very strong and that’s kind of steep for happy hour.
Happy hour also included food which was awesome. I had a pepperoni pizza for $ 9 which was good, but I’ve had better Neopolitan pizza (Pacci’s in Silver Spring).
