The Jefferson, Washington DC

Truly as good as it gets. Came here to celebrate our 2^nd anniversary and the girlfriend loved it as much as I did. The Petit Spa was very intimate for a couple’s massage, and the staff were extremely accommodating. As soon as we pulled in, my luggage was taken to my room and properly organized in the closet. Champagne and strawberries were waiting for us in the room after the massage as instructed. The lobster benedict for breakfast was to die for. And most of all, the service and historic nature of the hotel was something everyone should experience, especially if you’re from the area. A complimentary black car to Marcel’s for dinner was icing on the cake. First ⁵⁄₅ experience at a hotel that I have ever reviewed.

We stayed at the Jefferson during Pope Frances’s visit in DC. We enjoyed our stay. Everything was great. Staff were super friendly. Overall we really enjoyed this hotel.

Expensive but worth it

This luxurious and classic Washington hotel is the ultimate for those who expect the absolute best in customer service. Located right next to The White House, this gem of the city is ideal for business travelers, family visiting from out of town and locals on a stay-​cation.

Wonderful experience from beginning to end. They thought of everything. Dining facilities was superb and the meals were beyond excellent. Bring a healthy appetite as the portions are plenty. No details missed here. Will come again and try their spa services next time.

Superbe place! Very VERY comfortable. The bed is large and you sink into it (in a good way). They thought of everything, including the TV in the bathroom mirror so you don’t miss anything !:) Superbe service!

Wonderful stay last week at The Jefferson! Everyone from the concierge to the front door attendants were so pleasant and helpful. My wife and I ate at Plume one evening and couldn’t be more thrilled. Their lounge Quill was enjoyable as well. I can’t recommend enough and we look forward to returning!

Perfect hotel! The rooms are small but very, very clean, comfortable and have luxurious linens and marble baths. The staff were all very professional and helpful. The only down side was having to get out of bed in the morning!

I know that there are multiple five-​star reviews of this hotel my experience there was a total disaster
I spent four days in a $ 1000 a night suite of those four days only two days was the room serviced by housekeeping.
We had a unique situation in that and my girlfriend had recently had knee surgery and so was able to walk for about two hours at a time then we had to come back to the room and ice down her knee and then we could go out again. The first time we requested ice which of course comes from room service they brought a very small amount. I requested a larger amount which was necessary to properly do the procedure I am an orthopedic surgeon so have a pretty good idea of what I am doing. The next day the same small amount of ice was brought I again asked after giving a five dollar tip to please bring a larger amount of ice. Almost 2 hours later no ice had showed up I called the manager on duty and the ice was finally brought. I could spend another thousand words on little things that went wrong that you might expect at a Holiday Inn but not any five-​star hotel. Washington has many luxury hotels I suggest you choose one of the others although the location of this hotel is excellent but the service is abysmal and there were no apologies there was no adjustments to the bill and I will certainly never return there

Sunday night at Jefferson. Classy atmosphere with excellent drinks with complementary snacks. We ordered Thorn Drop and Route one Ricky, both top-​notch!

I love this hotel. The history, the great customer service, the little cookies and muffins, the bar… always try to stay at the Jefferson when in DC.

I was surprised with a staycation here on Valentine’s day. When we arrived, I was also surprised the hotels didn’t do anything special for Valentine’s Day.
Apparently, my boyfriend secretly packed our luggage the day before, and dropped it off here. Apparently, they had even put our luggage in our room already before we arrived, that was nice touch. + 1 for The Jefferson There is a intimate check-​in process where you sit at a small desk with the concierge to get your keys.
We had the classic room. The room was small and cozy. We didn’t have a view of anything, I think it was another wall, which was fine. The interior made up for it. I love the elegant dark wood furniture and oversized bed, beautiful desk, awesome valet stand where you can hang your suit jackets (I want one!), the bed was comfy, the bose classical music default radio station was nice, there was a small flatscreen tv.
The best part was probably the bathroom. I loved the rainfall shower head, the oversized tub with pillow and tub caddy AND a huge glass bowl of bath salts. It was the first time I ever seen a TV within a mirror too. So I really enjoyed the bathroom. The toilet was in its own separate room.
In a way, the feel reminds me of the Palazzo Hotel in Las Vegas, but definitely much smaller/​more boutique/​cozy. Nothing flashy/​grand here. Just simple quiet elegance in the heart of the city.
If we had more time, I definitely would have had dined in their Greenhouse for brunch and the attached Plume restaurant for dinner. However, we did visit the gym, which was super tiny and cramped, windowless. You pretty much go there just to use their treadmill because there is no space to do anything else. I did appreciate the free water bottles & apples in the gym though. :)

This was our first time staying in DC and The Jefferson helped make it the best visit! After a long travel day, having been delayed over 4+ hours and lost luggage, we just wanted to get to the hotel and have the day be over. With that said, we checked in around 8pm on Friday ²⁄₂₀. Research told us that, by booking through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts, we would be given certain amenities, which were the following:
–Upgrade (depending on availability at time of check-​in): booked into a Premium Room and were upgraded at check-​in into the Deluxe. This was expected, however, based on the website, it appears we received the smallest Deluxe King without the features of the Deluxe Room they show online (room #800). It seemed only slightly larger than the Premium. We also had no storage aside from the tiniest drawers next to the mini-​bar. Aside from that, the rooms are amazing and beautiful with an amazing bathroom. It was a very classy hotel.
–Free breakfast every morning: to redeem the ~$ 61 breakfast credit, you can ONLY use it in the Greenhouse Restaurant. You cannot use it for room service. Each breakfast we ate was delicious! There was nothing bad on the menu. Be mindful though that you do have to specifically ask for the bill, otherwise the staff won’t bring it to you.
Pros:
–Amazingly beautiful hotel and rooms. (see photos)
–EXCELLENT location; only 0.4 miles from the White House & Metro! (Farragut North)
–Helpful staff (shout-​out to Karen)
–Free coffee by elevators throughout morning then switched to tea
–Delicious food (both room service and restaurants)
–Free Internet/​Printing
–Free water in rooms
Cons: (very minute)
–Doorman placed us into a $ 25 minimum Über car to go 1.8 miles, after we asked for a taxi
–FHR free breakfast can only be redeemed at the Greenhouse Restaurant and not room service
–No storage in rooms
Like I said, the cons are so minute but they’re just things to know if you decide to stay here (especially the Über ordeal), which I believe you should. The staff is so friendly and helpful and the hotel itself is immaculate and beautiful, exactly what you would expect from D.C. Definitely recommend staying here!

This is definitely a five star hotel by DC standards and in terms of the level of service, which is world-​class (combined with the kind of local charm that only someone as utterly endearing as the night concierge, Cliff, can exude — we loved Cliff). The Deluxe King room was beautifully decorated but felt a little cramped for two. And as can be expected in any hotel there were a couple of cleanliness issues (a hair ball — not ours — wrapped inside one of the folded face towels in the bathroom when we arrived, someone else’s white powder stuck on the brown bathroom wall when we arrived, and what looked like dried food on the desk chair).

We had an absolutely lovely stay at the Jefferson recently. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. The staff anticipated our every need and were professional and friendly. The rooms are spotless, beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very nice and included a soaking tub with accompanying bath salts and large rain shower. My husband enjoyed the tv built into the bathroom mirror. Kate at the spa gave a great massage. Our favorite hotel prior to this was the St. Regis in NYC but our experience here topped that! Can’t wait to go back and enjoy afternoon tea :)

I cannot recommend the Jefferson enough! Despite all of its luxuries, like the television within the bathroom mirror, an elegant tub and bath salts, distilled water in crystal decanters, a complimentary chauffeur to get you through the city, and doormen that constantly greet you with smiling faces… I felt surprisingly at home! The staff here is nothing but warm and inviting, and treated us like we belonged, even though we were clearly unlike the high rollers there.
The bf and I had complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room to help celebrate our anniversary. Such a generous surprise! They really go out of there way here to make their customers feel special and taken care of. We were on our way out to grab a taxi to dinner, but instead the staff and chauffeur offered us a ride in their Benz, even when his shift had just ended.
The beautiful hotel room itself felt so comfortable and cozy with décor fitting of an actual home (I was eyeing the ceramic apple on the desk and vases in the bathroom)! I loved the mirror and valet stand near the door, and the roomy closet space. And the bed was amazingly comfortable and immaculately clean! We didn’t take advantage of the hotel’s amenities and highly raved restaurant and bar, but we did check out their modern gym which was lovely and had water bottles at each treadmill, as well as apples and towels. I don’t know when/​if I’ll ever have the honor of staying at the Jefferson again, but if my wallet allows for a fancy luxurious weekend, this will be my first stop!

Great service, we were welcomed with cupcakes as two of the four guest staying we’re teenage girls. They remembered us personally so that made every inquiry easier. Rooms were extremely clean and the bathroom as well. A little pricey for hotel but definitely worth the money.

Make sure you’re not booking the Jefferson hotel in VA! I made that mistake, but they were so gracious about it. The food is excellent. Getting drinks in the reading room was my favorite experience here. Loved the history and theme. Dress nicely! Distilled water in the rooms. Excellent staff.
Robes could be softer, just sayin. I would LOVE to come back!

We stayed here for our Daughters graduation from The George Washington University.
This is a wonderful hotel in a great location. The hotel has the feel and ambiance of a private club. Everything was spotlessly clean. The beds were unbelievably comfortable. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that had more bottled water provided at no charge to the guest. I feel the heart and soul of a hotel are the people that work there. Here The Jefferson set itself apart with some of the nicest people you can find. On our arrival I was greeted by Amil who I believe is the longest serving member of the staff and a great guy. Next on to the ladies at the front desk. They were warm, friendly and very helpful. I’ve included a photo of them as well as the the valets that work the front who were equally as great as the front desk folks. We’ll be back. Thanks for a great stay.

I felt like Pretty Woman. Minus the wig and turning tricks part. So out of my league at this place!
If I was forced to write a one word review of The Jefferson, it would go something like this: SUMPTUOUS.
The attention to detail in this boutique hotel, both historic and otherwise, is of the obsessive-​compulsive variety. The service is beyond anything I have ever experienced and I will admit it has turned me into a bit of a snob. After staying in the Deluxe Suite for two nights all future «regular hotel» stays will pale and disappoint. Likewise, I came home only to hate my own bathroom mirror because it didn’t contain a TV like I have became accustomed to.
This review could easily reach epic proportions if I went on and on about all the little details, all the little things that the hotel does to go out of their way in making your stay unforgettable. It isn’t only the hotel that is grand and opulent. Equally worthy of praise is the hotel bar, The Quill, and the restaurant, Plume. I was lucky enough to experience food and drink from both during my stay here a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever have the pleasure of staying here again. When a hotel hosts the President of the United States, serves complimentary sweet tea in the lobby out of crystal pitchers, places porcelain goblets full of bath salts with silver spoons to scoop into your over-​sized tub, delivers exquisite in-​room breakfast with every detail of fine dining… it’s probably too expensive to just casually check in to. And it IS expensive. Full disclosure: I was able to stay here as the «plus one» during a familiarization trip that a friend in the hospitality business was a part of. It’s good to have connections who also happen to be your best friend :)
Of course, one could always drop in for a spot of afternoon tea in The Greenhouse… as soon as I’m back in DC I might do just that. Until then, I’ll have to survive on olfactory memories of my stay by way of the complimentary tubes of Monticello Grove body lotion I squirreled away. It’s custom made for the hotel by Red Flower and it is exquisite. I’m kind of rationing that out whenever I need a hit of luxury in my life.
If you have the means, I can’t recommend The Jefferson highly enough.
