I understand my favorite bartender, Terry, is no longer working here. I will not be coming back. Big Texas is soo yesterday now. There are so many better options in the Clear Lake Area. I will NOT be back. Bye Felicia!

Went for my first time and had alot of fun. I was surprised that it wasn’t more crowded. They had a live band playing which I’d definitely go back for. Everyone seemed friendly.

Won’t be back. Came for the first time a few years ago and the place was a lot of fun. Fast forward to now. My wife’s coworker turned 21, so we took him to Big Texas. After 2 drinks and a shot, the bartender cut him off. He’s been drinking for a few years already, so he has a high tolerance, meaning he’s completely sober at this point. Maybe 10 minutes later the bouncer asks us to leave. Nobody was doing anything wrong, just standing around. Lame. We will never go back. I’m 40 and I felt young there. Much older crowd than my first experience a few years ago and the place was half empty. After being asked to leave(I was drinking diet coke because I was designated driver), and nobody was drunk, we will never go back to Big Texas.

Came to this place after spending the day on a party barge for a friend’s birthday. I was wearing a ball cap on backwards at the time and went inside. After a couple of minutes a bouncer told me I had to turn my hat around so I did. I went out on the dance floor and after a minute out there a different bouncer told me I’m not allowed on «his dance floor» with a drink in my hand. A little while later I realized I had gotten in with my hat on backwards so I turned it back around. The bouncer came back and got extremely confrontational about how he’s already told me three times(it had only been twice) and he wouldn’t tell me again. I told him they let me in like that to which he got even more aggressive and threatened to kick me out. I complied and turned the hat back around. 30 seconds later this guy comes back with a huge grin on his face and informs me the manager saw us «arguing» and I must leave. This dude was about to implode under the weight of his own smug sense of self-importance. I told him it was fine because I knew I had disobeyed his policy so I left without causing a fuss. Some of my friends were later kicked out because the dance floor bouncer didn’t like the way they were dancing(they weren’t doing anything offensive, just dancing silly like most people do when they’re having a good time). They said the bouncer was a real jerk to them too. The bar itself was alright and the bar service was pretty standard, not a bad looking place to spend the evening. Too bad that all gets cancelled out. This place sucked because they have a major staff problem. Big Texas has bouncers who stroke their own egos by being pricks to the patrons. This isn’t Roadhouse and these guys need to tone down their BS attitudes.

My cousin and I came here Saturday night last week. We were visiting the area and Big Texas came highly recommended by the locals we asked. In checking the website, we knew that there was no cover and cheapo drinks if you came early, and so we were in the door by 8pm. The crowd was very nice and eager to ensure everyone was out on the dance floor at one point or another. The average age is a bit older, though a younger crowd started to come in as we left around 11:30. Plus the older crowd really knows how to dance and is more than happy to teach you. Staff were very friendly as well, from the bar to the front desk. I docked a star as I had 7($ 2) well drinks within the 3.5 hrs we were there and left the bar sober. My cousin however had the equal amount in beer and was quite the opposite. They also primarily play two-stepping songs, and I had hoped for some line dancing options so I wouldn’t have to rely on a partner. I only got to line dance twice and it was to Copper Road both times. I wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend this location. I’d just make note that partner dances are primarily what you’ll encounter, and to get there early as the parking lot fills up big time.

This is the place to be on any night of the week! There are many deals, the people are really nice and lively, the drinks are decent and there is plenty of room to dance. I like how sectioned off everything is. Not only is there a nice big dance floor, but for those who got dragged out by their friends and aren’t really into country music there are plenty of pool tables towards the back and booths to sit in on the side to just sit and chat with friends. The waitresses are really nice and check on you to refill any drinks or bring you new ones. They are also nice enough to recommend good drinks that are really affordable. They also have popcorn! What happy drunk person doesn’t love munching on popcorn and sipping on their drinks?! It’s really cool that they also give dance lessons on Saturday nights. My friends and I have been coming here for years and we have had tons of fun each time. My only complaint is that there are many parking spaces that are saved for valet so its annoying trying to find a good parking spot. Other than that this place is awesome!

It’s a good place to take out of towners. Big Texas has been the longest-standing dance club since I lived there… before that, it was a Banana Joes(which my 21 year old self LOVED), and a Zoobar before that. It’s a lot of fun. Guys have to wear button downs. I had a friend, Hector, who wanted to go, but he didn’t have a button down on him and he lived way out in La Porte, so he borrowed one from a much smaller friend at my apt. It was hilarious; I thought the buttons were going to pop off the entire night and take out someone’s eye. Parking is easy and there is a big bar near the floor and a little bar in the back to the right if you want to go someplace more quiet. I never went to the little bar.

This was my first experience at a country dance bar and I’m an easy pleaser, but I had an amazing time. Pros: 5 dollar cover charge Excellent music transitions Clean bathrooms Cons:not a great place to meet those younger singles. Like I said, I had an amazing time, but I would Have had a better time without the terrible 50 year old couple to 20 year old single ratio.

Well what else can you say being a huge fan of country music and atmosphere I fell in love walking into this place… Inside just opens up with 3 big bars a good size dance floor pool tables games and plenty of room to hang out and people watch… The drink specials are SILLY!!! and if you need to drink a bunch to get up and dance this is for sure the place to accomplish that. All people are friendly and there to do the same thing DRINK, DANCE, DRINKANDPARTY… Had a great time

If you’re looking for a country themed bar with a nice dance floor, this is it. They always have great drink specials(for example, on Wednesdays, nothing is more than $ 3.25) and plenty of room for dancing. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends, especially if there’s a concert going on, but I’ve never had an issue getting served at the bar. They also have several pool tables, and free dance lessons on Fridays!

Redneck heaven, lol. If you like country I guess this would be your place if you’re in the area. Forget about using the restroom though. Very long lines, it’s ridiculous. This place gets crowded full of shitkickers.

I really liked this place! My friend Nate invited me to the East Coast Swing class on a Friday afternoon. We made it there about 5:30. This is a free class and the instructors were awesome! I had such a good time there. You don’t even need a partner, they had plenty of people there to dance with and they rotate them anyways. The place is pretty big and has three different bars. The décor is all Texan and all awesome! I definitely recommend it if you want to take a swing class or maybe just have a beer. It seems they have other classes during the week, so look them up and join the fun! =)

I love the set up of this club. It’s so much larger then it looks from the outside and it was pretty crowded on a Friday night. Also, no wait fir drinks :-) love the random hip-hop/rap in-between the country songs. Overall good time.

I was really having a good night. I went out with my brother. I live nearby and don’t always prefer country clubs but my brother loves them so off we went. It was a nice night to be out. When we got inside, at 10:00, I had 2 shots one each hour, mixed which were poured less than half full. We met my brothers friend there and he had been there for an hour. At one o clock they cut my brothers friend off although he had less to drink than my brother as served to them at that point and he is a large fellow who was holding his 2 beers with no indication of drunkenness. When I asked them why they proceeded to cut me off, and told me it was because he may have had too much before he got there, they couldn’t know. A) I have taken TABC, I know the indications of intoxication. Peter was walking and talking as normally as sober. He is about 225 pounds and 6’2. Two beers in three hours, I know cause I was the one going to the bar to buy them for him and after I inquired magically, next time my under the legal limit self tried to order a drink I was cut off. The staff was not at all polite to my question which was respectfully and legitimately put. They basically yelled at me after the second time I asked to speak with the bartender at that bar that decided to cut my friend off. If you want to have a good time, I would say the staff this place is too preoccupied with cutting off the sober people and allowing the drunk ones to leave. As a matter of fact, I saw a averaged sized woman who had clearly been over served actually pass out in the bathroom that night and I have never seen that in any bar. I believe she was rushed to the hospital. I would NOTRECOMMEND this place… the dance floor is super CROWDED as you can see on other reviews and there is always a cover charge… the drinks are not as inexpensive as other places and most of the bartenders overall do not pour the drinks to a fill level or quickly and C) they water down their alcohol so if you order a mixed drink you are getting a watered down version of the mixed drink you intended to order/are paying full price for.

This place is your run-of-the mill dance hall crammed into Clear Lake. It’s actually quite a bit larger on the inside than I expected it to be the first time I came here. The layout of the place is convenient and well thought out(dance floor in the center surrounded by tables, 2 bars, and pool tables on the side). They have charged a cover every night that I have been, which is usually a Friday so I’m not sure if it is different on other days. I have also attended concerts here(i.e.- Wade Bowen). No matter what age group you fall under, whether it be «old enough to get in but not legal to drink» or «who invited grandma?» there will be other people in your age range here. It can take a while to get a drink at the bar even when they are not super crowded, I still haven’t figured out why this is. Also be warned, if you open a tab at the bar they will charge your card $ 50 and leave it pending on your account for a few days. I always have a good time here and will return the next time I feel like getting my 2-step on.

I’m a «yankee» and this was the first«country» bar I’ve ever been to. I found Big Texas to be a blast. At first I was nervous that I was going to look out of place because I wasn’t dressed«country» but that wasn’t the case at all. There where some cowboys but for the most part everyone there was dressed however. The bartenders were friendly and the atmosphere was upbeat, fun and relaxed. Luckly for me the music wasn’t all country and had a mix. They did have a pretty good sized dance floor, which(when I was there) it stayed almost full the whole time. I have never two stepped before and was learning. The skill level ranged from experienced to people like me and everyone was very friendly. I found Big Texas to be a good start to my Texas night life experience and I plan on going there again.

I’m a Cali girl and had never been country dancing before — and I was pleasantly surprised!!! I had the best.time.ever!!! Everyone is so friendly and fun … totally unpretentious … and laid back. I went on a date, so he kinda taught me to dance but my friend was asked out by plenty of people who were really open to teaching. Not everyone is dressed all cowboy’ed out … so feel free to dress however you want(like me!). Oh, and they also played hip-hop/pop type music in between … which gave it an interesting twist when cowboys were dancing to rap music. Had a great time!!!
