History

Established in 2010.

After Nicola’s daughter became interested in sewing, Nicola found that there was no place in Newton that her daughter could learn, as well as be in a fun creative environment .So she decided Newton needed such a place and so Hipstitch was born.

Nicola’s creative vision and British Fashion sense, in addition to her sewing skills are the perfect fit for all sewists and all skill levels.

Sewists of all ages can feel inspired and confident learning and growing their sewing skills at HipStitch. Above all else sewing at HipStitch is about having fun and meeting new friends.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

learned from a very early age that «if you want something you must go after it yourself!» As the eldest of 14 children, Nicola began sewing her own clothes around 11 years old. As a young adult, Nicola came to the US from Manchester, England and landed on the island of Nantucket.

There she worked in a sewing store making pillows and draperies and other custom sewing.

In addition she developed a line of purses, which she sold in boutiques in Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

In the off season she decided to take a cross-​country trip across the US with a friend and sell the hand-​sewn purses in boutiques. The purses were sold in boutiques in Saratoga Springs to San Francisco.

After settling down to raise her family in Newton, MA Nicola has continued to follow her entrepreneurial spirit by creating HipStitch.
