The Westport Inn, an Ascend Hotel Collection Member

We blocked a set of rooms here for our wedding. The guests were happy, the bar after our wedding in the restaurant was a great success, and the morning after brunch was a perfect set up. This is a great place if your wedding venue is close, like at the Inn at Longshore. The prices are very reasonable, especially given what’s available in the immediate area. I really felt like my wedding guests were able to stay at a really nice place without spending too much on a hotel room.

Worst customer service. On three different occasions I was not able to book there because no one answered the phones, all in the matter of a year. Most of the time I go to the front desk no one is even there. Rooms are nice and so is the area.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Our room did not have a hair dryer so I called to ask the front desk about getting one. The person answering the phone was very apologetic and said we will bring one to you. An hour later they still hadn’t brought the dryer by and we needed to go out for a quick errand, but I thought if they came by with the hair dryer they would just leave it in the room. Upon returning from our errand there was still no hair dryer, so I called the front desk. The very rude girl answering the phone said we came to your room but nobody answered when we knocked, so if you want a dryer you will have to come and get it.
The next day our room key didn’t work so my husband went to the front desk for help. The girl at the front desk must have been new because she didn’t know how to do anything and was all alone. Nice person but very inept. It took him 40 minutes to get the key corrected.
The two computers in the lobby for printing boarding passes didn’t work. One couldn’t connect to the Internet and the other couldn’t connect to the printer.
The staff didn’t understand that an apology goes a long way toward resolving problems!
There were other problems too where they failed to provide good customer service, so we definitely won’t stay there next time.

Not great. And first let me point out I travel about 3 times a month for multiple nights each.
This is my second occasion staying at this hotel. The first experience was great. I was placed in the «back building» rooms were spacious and relatively new along with the fitness center being right there.
Second time. Not so great. Reserving the same type of room as previous (same amount of $) I was placed in the front building. DISGUSTING.
The rooms smell terrible, old beds, old everything. I feel like I went back to the 70s. I don’t even get an ice bucket! When I had a fridge beforehand.
I did ask the front desk if I was able to go to the back building to have another pleasant experience. Nope, $ 50 fee. That’s crazy. I didn’t even receive the room I booked (1 King– received 2 fulls)
The employee said «maybe next time» not even a I’m sorry we may have upgraded you preciously.
I assure you. There will not be a next time.
2 stars. Purely because of the location and the wifi.

Worst hotel. I stayed there in October of 2014 for a few days. I live in Westport but was having work done to my house. I figured it was a hotel in Westport so it should be ok. Terrible service as nobody answered the phone when I would call the front desk. Another example is, I called one evening about my broken coffee maker and they never fixed or replaced it. The room should have been on Hotel Impossible as the great was dirty and there was visible patchwork.

Wonderful, peaceful full service hotel. My wife and I enjoyed the modern rooms, good food, bar, large pool, gym and free bicycling service. Conveniently located near one of the most secret, beautlfullly little beaches on the East Coast, Compo, Westport, Southpark beach.(parking high). The wonderfully Westport Inn, has free parking indoor/​outdoor and a very friendly staff, Margo, Joy and Charles, were very kind & helping in rates, and telling us fine places nearby. Besides fine dining this hotel even has a comedy club on weekends.
Will be staying there again for the holidays. Downtown Westport is a nice stroll and they did offer my wife a free shuttle to the train station that she enjoyed. Thank you.

We stayed in room 244 in the older building and i shit you not there were bugs. First i found a skin shedding on my pillow. The bed looked fine but the headboard was crawling with live ones! EWW. They front desk woman was very nice and offered us another room in the new renovated building, while that room appeared clean I was way to freaked out to stay and ended up leaving.

Front desk staff very friendlly… but I’m not into the motel style. Bathroom too small, sleeper sofa was miserable. Too expensive for the quality. Better choices, less costly nearby. :)

Walking in, the lobby looks great. Very rustic and cute and staff was friendly. However, the first issue was that there are two separate buildings. One newer than the other. I was there for a wedding and the guests were spread between the two buildings which is not very convenient. Upon arrival of the room, I was immediately disappointed. It was small, no refrigerator, no safe, very small closet. For the price of this room $ 169/​night, it was not worth it at all.

Let me start by saying that my work books my hotels and usually goes through Expedia, so i dont get a choice of where to stay. You might, hence, my review.
This is a MOTEL. Do not be confused. There is no elevator. There are only two narrow staircases that where located pretty far from my room. I was offered a room on the first floor, however as a lone female traveler I did not feel like this was a safe option since the Motel door opens to the road.
After lugging my luggage up the two sets of steps, then i had to roll down a very long hallway which is exposed to the outside (and freezing), only to find another set of steps (just two or three but come on!).
I had trouble keeping the room warm, even after setting the thermostat up substantially. On the first two nights my room temperature would not go above 64. It took me three days to realize that there is a motion detector on the thermostat, so i would get up in the middle of the night and wave my hand in front of it to get the heat to kick on. I get that this saves resources and all, but there should be some sort of setting to not have the heat kick off in the middle of the night.
Also, the wifi signal in my room was two bars all week. When i asked the front desk about this, they gave me the dreaded «You are the first person to say that». Wow, uh, ok… I kinda felt like she thought it was my equipment, despite me having three separate devices with the same signal strength. I wound up going down to the lobby and watching my shows down there in my sweatpants, and took all the dirty looks from the swanky crowd at the bar.
Also, when i first arrived i gave the phone number from the room phone to my husband. We had an emergency in the middle of the night — but when he called the hotel it was busy for over an hour. I finally saw his frantic texts — and i called the front desk, only to find out the phone number to the hotel had changed !!! The card on the phone was wrong and caused a major issue in my life thanks to it. If you get your phone number changed why not instantly go and pull the old cards from the phone ! Deducting one star just for that because it was pretty bad.
So, if you can chose your hotels for business travel, maybe keep looking. This is a MOTEL. Granted, the nicest MOTEL i’ve stayed at (the room is very well decorated), but not worth the effort.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Westport Inn in March 2014 using a Groupon and found it to be a solid value.
The hotel is on a major road, is easy to find and access, and the lobby is attractive and pleasantly laid out when you first walk in. We liked how airy and open the room felt, with plenty of natural light and white/​light paint, and a large comfortable sofa facing a fireplace… airy and warm at the same time. There was a nice looking restaurant off the lobby to the immediate right. (We did not have a chance to try the food because of our schedule but will keep it in mind for another visit.)
We did hit a few minor bumps upon check in… first, the front desk could not find our reservation, and then when they did, claimed it was for the following night. The desk staff said «Don’t worry, we will change it» as if somehow it was our mistake that they were doing us a big favor for fixing, but when I showed them my printed receipt/​confirmation that showed that we were indeed staying the night we said we were, a vague excuse was mumbled like «Oh, there must have an error in the transmission from Groupon.» which seemed strange. However, that was sorted out and we were given our choice of rooms and floors which we appreciated, since some places just assign you a room without asking. The staff member at the desk helpfully listed off all the amenities and gave us thorough and detailed information about where everything was located. We were then given a nicely located room in the rear of the building but our key card did not work, just flashed red. Back to the lobby. The staff tried to reprogram the card. Still didn’t work. Back to the lobby. We were given another room in the same section, and new cards. Same thing. Back to the lobby. A hotel staff member walked back with us to the second room and tried it again. Same thing. We were given a third room to try and the key card thankfully worked in that one. Staff decided it was an engineering issue with the doors and that was why they had to keep switching us, because the engineering staff is not there on the weekends. That seemed kind of odd, too and not all that reassuring (what happens if your key card stops working in the middle of your weekend stay?), but we were happy to finally get into a room.
The room itself was clean and comfortable, with nice mattresses and bedding. I did notice a slight tear on one of the box spring covers and and old faint stain on one of the curtains. The shower curtain also seemed to be coming apart in places. A few minor wear and tear issues, but overall a nice room. (I might not have been ok with these things if we hadn’t been using a Groupon and getting a discount, but for what we paid it was certainly acceptable.) And even though we ultimately ended up in a front room facing the main road, we were pleasantly surprised to find how quiet our room was. The shower and water pressure were excellent and we enjoyed the provided toiletries. Good sized flat screen TV, WiFi was easy to connect to. Easy parking.
Would definitely stay here again. Not quite the setting for a romantic getaway, but for good basic value and convenience, cannot complain.

An OK place at best, nice staff. Basically a motel. I knew my door opens to the outside (feels weird), but then I found two more doors to the rooms next door, though locked. Not much sense of privacy, I can hear other guests and the street. Room is clean and has everything, free wifi, comfy bed, nice interior design. I wanted to take a bath, but the tub is run down and doesn’t feel safe to get into. There is nowhere to put body wash or soap. Heat vent was like having a jet engine over my head, very noisy. Can’t turn it off sice it’s freezing outside, but then it’s impossible to sleep or have any rest like this. They should completely update this part of the hotel, or set the price accordingly (to much lower). I had to stay because of work, good location, but I wouldn’t come here again.

Do not stay here! One of my worst experiences ever. Yes, beds are big and rooms mostly clean, but this is outdated, overpriced and the majority of the staff are incompetent, totally unwilling to do anything for guests.
The motel, because that is what it is, not a hotel, is two floors with no elevator, unreal. Doors open out to the highway, totally unsafe for women.
No room service, terrible bathrooms, pathetic showers. Plastic cups. Obviously these raves about the beauty and service are fake, they don’t even have a liquor license! You have to order food, then your drinks are «complimentary.» I am shocked this place is still in business, much less has the gall to charge over $ 200 per night.
Avoid at all costs!

First let me start off with saying I’m an event planner and this place was the most amazing place ever.
I just had my wedding there on October 5, 2013 and it was INCREDIBLE the ballroom is absolutely beautiful and the service is terrific — anything I needed was done for me, they accommodated us 100% with all of our needs. The food was delicious, I was told by many that it was some of the best wedding food that they had ever had! We did the taco bar for the hot station, PEOPLE LOVE IT the steak and chicken were marinated to perfection. The rooms are clean and spacious and at first I was hesitant because it’s an «upscale motel» but I had no complaints on that from even the pickiest people — the rooms are a bit overpriced even with the wedding rate but you can negotiate that if you try hard enough. Don’t worry about the Westport Inn being off the Boston Post Road because once everyone is in, that is all forgotten about — the candles being lit in the background are beautiful — I can keep going on about how wonderful this place is. One really cool thing is also you can get one on one food tasting at Garelick and Herb so you know exactly what is coming out during cocktail hour and dinner. This place is great because it’s not a «wedding factory» you are the only wedding of the day so there is no mad rush to get in or out.
I highly recommend considering the Westport Inn for your wedding, everyone will leave extremely happy.

Start with the announcement when you check in that they don’t have elevators and you have a room on the second floor.
When you find one of the two (count them two) stairways, you’re amazed to find a relic from Hobbit Town: the only stairway not wide enough for an American carrying luggage too large to hold in your arms like little baby Jesus.
Your room is down a dingy hallwall all by itelf. Open the partially stuck door to find a king sized bed which is exactly 2 feet from the desk which is 49% occupied by the large Philips HD TV. But wait, there is more.
In the bathroom a short 1 step from the bed you’ll find additional relics from the Hobbit: a shower rod which requires you to duck when entering the bathtub unless your height is less than 5’10″. A ceiling which you can reach assuming you are at least 4’6″ in height. (Our wheeled friends would never be able to see this room as the 3 flights of stairs make it impossible to surmount.)
Then for an extra bonus, attempt to connnect to the free Internet wifi. I tried with 3 different devices and 3 different browers and none could successfully navigate the challenge of downloading the entire Yahoo mail screen.
(To be fair, I have a friend who had a room on the 1^st floor and he said it was large enough for a racketball court.)
So the luck of the draw: buyer beware.

I recently held my wedding at The Westport Inn. We were initially a little nervous because of some of the older Unilocal reviews. However, we had nothing to worry about. The hotel was fantastic. Our room as so comfortable and spacious. The bed was very comfy and huge (a king).
The restaurant was great and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. All of our guests loved staying at the inn. People raved about the fire and the bikes they could borrow.
Regarding having a wedding there, we absolutely lucked out. The service was incredible and the ballroom was so beautiful. It was truly the best weekend of our lives and we have the Westport Inn to thank for that. Especially Antonella who did an incredible job.

Stayed here a number of times when recently working extensively in the area. Its apparently recently made over, its reasonably clean and vaguely stylish in its décor. Its fully acceptable lodging. I think classifying it as a «boutique» hotel is surely a stretch. Its location is somewhat close to the expressway and near the Shake Shack but the-​re is really nowhere walkable from the place. The name had me thinking it would be smack in the middle of Westport’s relatively walkable downtown when it fact it is at the extreme edge of town-​limits, practically in Fairfield, whose downtown it is much closer to.
One thing that is pretty sad is the «bar» setup in the lobby. A tiny nook crudely reconfigured, it resembles something like a pathetic attempt to throw together a bar scene in a luckless student film. Stranded work travelers or wedding attendees, out of pure desperation set up shop and spill out into the adjoining lobby, and surely feel bad about themselves afterwards.

I stayed at The Westport Inn recently for a family gathering and got a double queen room in the front of the building. The lobby is cute, check-​in a breeze, and the staff is GREAT. They were polished, personable and professional — which goes a very long way these days.
I was nervous that perhaps my room would be noisy considering Route 1 is just outside the window, but the extra glass wall built to muffle the noise was effective. There was a problem getting in the door to my room, the electronics were acting up due to wet weather. The front desk and maintenance staff handled it well and got me in my room very quickly.
Once inside, the room itself was nicely appointed with tasteful furnishings, fluffy pillows, nice white sheets and a large-​screen TV. A bit like an old-​school motel room otherwise, I did notice a large stain on the bathroom ceiling adjacent to some duct work. There was a small leak that dripped rusty water on the bathroom floor.
It was my mother’s 70^th birthday and the hotel graciously upgraded her and my stepfather to a suite in the back building. This building had some nice furniture in its lobby, but the carpet on the stairs was stained and worn. Their room was quite large and nicely appointed. The upgrade was another example of the great service.
I didn’t try the amenities in the lobby such as coffee, etc as there are two Starbucks within a ¼ mile and our event revolved around restaurants and meals with friends. But the free WiFi is a nice perk and worked without a hitch. I definitely appreciated the iPhone hookup since I forgot my phone charger.
Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again should the need arise. This inn tries hard to be upscale to appeal to the area demographics. They hit it on service and come close on the accommodations, but some additional renovations and maintenance are required to bring the property up to snuff.

For your basics, this is the place. Room is basic
Positives: free internet in the hotel and room, free lemonade, cookies and fruit in lobby, indoor swimming pool 3 – 6 feet deep. Friendly service, hot water maker in room
Negatives: Fitness room is small in the back building with no phone — seems a bit isolated

My family and I recently stayed for a long weekend, my cousin was getting married and this was one of the hotel choices. When we arrived, after check-​in time, our room was still not clean so we had to come back an hour later.
When we got to our room, although it was cute, there was nothing deluxe about it. It was nothing more than a slightly larger hotel room. There is no bathtub, there were ants near the refrigerator, and the air conditioner unit wasn’t working properly.
We called the front desk to let them know about the ac unit, etc and they never did anything about it.
We requested our room be cleaned in the morning one day only to be told that house keeping staff don’t come in before 9:30 am and there was no way to promise me anything.
With the nightly amount we were paying I was less than impressed with the actual room and the front desk staff. They were unfriendly and seemed overwhelmed all the time.
I would not stay here again.
