Jos. A. Bank

Our experience at the Joseph A Bank store in Wheaton, Il couldn’t have been better. My husband was updating his entire wardrobe. We thought we’d stop at JAB first and go on from there. Turned out, there was no reason to go elsewhere (except for shoes). We purchased three sport coats, three suits, several pair of pants, some dress shirts, and a tie.
They were well staffed, polite, knowledgeable, and worked well as a team. They were not overbearing, but were available when needed. Alteration time was prohibitive for us, but they managed to work miracles with our tight time line.
Everything fits beautifully and Mister looks terrific.
It is true that the «on sale» structure can be confusing, but all you need to do is ask.
Thanks to all of you at the Wheaton store. Well done!

This chain needs to do a significantly better job clearly identifying what merchandise is on sale versus not. This is second time I have shopped the store and moved on to the counter to find nothing I’ve selected is on sale. You do not want to shop at this retailer unless the items are on sale. Full price is ridiculous. Signage gives the impression everything is on sale but it’s not true.
I get the sales folks are on commission and it’s probably me but I feel like they are gum on my shoe as soon as I walk in. I just can’t seem to get rid of them as I’m walking around looking at merchandise. Again it’s probably me but when I go clothes shopping (which I hate to do) I want to find what I want, I want to buy it at a fair price and get out. This is a hard place to do that.
I have shopped at other Joseph A Banks and not found the sales people quite as clingy

They don’t have rental shoes to try on when renting a tux, they just looked at me blankly when I asked. Insisted that I should know my exact shoe size… didn’t understand that different brands vary by 0.5−1.5 sizes from each other. They weren’t able to measure my feet or recommend a size or width for their shoes. Kinda lame for a store that uses the label ‘clothiers’ and is much more expensive for rentals than Men’s Wearhouse. They also insist on using outdated style norms and are somewhat snooty. They quoted one price to the bride and groom, then charged $ 100 more when the wedding party showed up to get measure (and no, we didn’t mis the deadline). I rented my own wedding tux from Men’s Wearhouse and I had a much better customer experience. I highly doubt I’ll ever willingly go back to Jos.

I recently stopped at the Jos. A. Bank in Wheaton’s Town Square for a pair of shoes to match a new suit.
Unfortunately the shoes were not available in my size, so the salesman asked me if I’d like him to order them for me online. We proceeded with beginning that transaction but then I changed my mins when I learned that the shoes would not be shipped for 2 – 3 weeks. I thanked him for his efforts and told him I’d shop around.
Later the next day I stopped at the Jos. A Bank in Lombard only to learn that they had multiple pairs of the shoe in my size. Needless to say I was happy to find them there and I bought the shoes.
What’s strange to me is that the Wheaton store never mentioned other Jos. A Bank stores, and I assumed this was because they had already looked in the system to see there was no availability. My only assumption for this lack of customer service is that they wanted to get the commission locally and Jos. A Bank has no incentives for the Wheaton store to send customers to another store. So I instead walked out and didn’t make the original purchase.
In retrospect I shouldn’t have bought the shoes from Lombard, as this Jos. A. Bank system doesn’t deserve my money. It seems like every other similar clothing store checks their local stores to see if they carry what I’m looking for if they can’t find it in their own store. Not Jos. A. Bank.

Only the manager can do exchanges. And the wait for him might require you to bring a sleeping bag. Don’t. Buy anything u don’t know for sure will fit

Ann Marie, Deb, and Carmine, the tailor, did an amazing job for my family when my brother got married last weekend. My boys, ages 2 & 5, as well as my husband all got their tuxes from this Jos. A Bank in Wheaton. Ann Marie and Deb went out of their way to help me with the little guys when we were measured, and when we had to go back for alterations. My husband liked the store so much he bought 3 new suits for work. Their tailor did a wonderful job, too.

You can’t mess with the quality of clothes here, they are all VERY nice. This shop is kind of small and you can see most of the merchandise when you walk in the door. Lately they have been having lots of sales, (who isn’t?), so you can get some good deals.
Both my husband and I have experience a lack of customer service here. I have been the only person in the store and have had to interrupt the employees’ conversations to get help. My husband went in to pick up some pants that had been tailored and had to wait to get someone to help him (he was the only customer) and then he had to ask if he could try them on!
I find if you know exactly what you want, pick it up and walk to the checkout counter, there’s plenty of help, but if you need some customer service, it’s a BIG hit or miss.
Be careful if you have to order something. I got the call that the item I ordered was in, but when I went to pick it up they couldn’t find it. I made them go through the stuff in the back and they found it with a totally different name and phone number on the outside of the bag and my receipt on the inside!
I don’t know why the employees here are so hesitant to help out. It’s not like this place is ever packed when I go in it. If this wasn’t so close, I would just head to Von Maur or Nordstrom instead. I’m getting a little frustrated by the hit or miss service.

Funny story. My wife and I came down to sign our lease papers for our apartment and after that I had a job interview. BUT I forgot my black shoes! I had planned on changing into my suit for the interview once we had the keys to our apartment, but NO SHOES! AH! Luckily there is a shopping mall/​center nearly across the street. I drove over and circled the shops twice, but there were no shoe stores… well men’s shoe stores. Thankfully there was a Jos A Bank’s! And, thankfully they had black shoes.
The older gentleman, who I later found out is named Fred, helped me and was very friendly. He pointed out the deals in the store and set me up with a store savings card, which saved me 20% on the $ 129.00 shoes. Fred also gave some info on the area and said that he lived in the community that we did, and had lived there for 14 years. Needless to say I had an interesting story for my job interview.
As for the store, it is clean, well lit, and fully stocked. Since I haven’t bought a suit from there (yet) I really can’t say much to their quality; but as far as men’s suits go they seem to be fairly priced. I do know that they run sales, the weekend I was there they were buy one suit get two free, too bad I couldn’t take advantage of that deal.
Anyway I would defiantly give this place a try!
