The premise behind the creation of K1 Speed was to offer enthusiasts and amateurs alike an authentic and genuine racing experience in a safe, comfortable, accessible and perhaps most importantly, unique environment. Utilizing advanced European electric karts and indoor asphalt tracks, K1 Speed quickly developed a reputation as being fun and exciting, and our growth has been continuous since we first opened our doors. In addition to our Arrive and Drive racing option, which allows individuals to visit our indoor karting centers anytime and experience the thrill of racing, we also offer racing leagues and a variety of packages for corporate events and group parties, which have proven quite popular. To meet the needs of customers and kart racing enthusiasts who demand more, we also have a Pro Shop — K1 Race Gear — which carries everything that a karter might need to compete at the track. At K1 Speed, our goal is to be synonymous with karting, and we think that we are on our way!

History

Established in 2003.

K1 Speed opened its first location in 2003 in Carlsbad CA. Now we are one of the premier karting companies in America. With kart racing centers in Southern and Northern California, Seattle, Fort Lauderdale, Phoenix, Texas and several more facilities planned for the near future, K1 Speed brings the thrill and excitement of indoor karting to a large audience. Offering highly-​advanced and environmentally-​friendly electric karts as well as large indoor entertainment venues that feature authentic racing memorabilia, pit cafes, meeting rooms and pool tables, K1 Speed is a great place to visit with family and friends or to host a corporate event or party.

Business Owner

David and Susan Danglard founded K1 Speed in 2003, after making a significant and unlikely career transition from 12 years in the wholesale denim industry to pursuing their shared passion for racing. Inspired by European concepts of gas-​fueled indoor karting centers, the couple dreamed up an electric facility with minimal environmental impact and a greener, more energy efficient footprint. In spirit of the American dream, they sold their existing business, house and toys, and worked 24⁄7 on every aspect of the new business for the first two years. After the success of their first location in Carlsbad, they decided to open the very first indoor karting chain in the US.

I was in here recently for a work party. It really seems like they are starting to get it together here. The races were so much fun and the staff was extremely interactive. Cant wait to come back soon with my family. definitely good for adults and kids.

Had our annual employee holiday party here on 2÷1÷16 .its a new place not many reviews so wasnt too sure what to expect. it was a monday not too busy but they had a few parties at the time. so we walked in and and were greeted at the door by a gentleman named joe i think he said he was the manager. he walked us over to the computers to fill out check in forms and was telling us about the place like where they originated and how long they been there whole process took about 10 minutes and we had about 20 employees this year attend, he was a really good guy too, made sure we were allset from start to finish. that being said we had a blast and its probably going to be a tradition to go there. hope this helps anyone planning on going in the future. this place is just too new and not enough reviews.

Just had a corporate event on January 31 2016 with 16 people. Staff was great, facility is amazing, cars are incredible. All my employees were asking when we would be coming back again before we had left. Definately a fan of this place!!!

Management of the track is very poor. They give conflicting numbers for max racers in a group, which ranges from 10 to 15 depending on who you ask. Check in is chaotic. We were booked for 5, but did not start until probably 6.
Worst, one of the cars’ wheel almost came off during the race. When i pointed this out, they took it very lightly and treated it as a simple mechanical problem. They claim to check the cars every morning but it seems like their inspections are not enough. I dont think i will be back here.

Small track. Nice cars. Terrible track management. Having driven almost every high speed track in New England its refreshing to see a new electric car track in town. Less noise. No exhaust. Quicker recovery. Note that coming in first time = driving the slow cars/​track. As well as being out in track with kids and super slow drivers that don’t understand basic passing/​bumping rules: one kid sending me head on into the guardrail only to bump me again on pass. Where’s the track master? Check in equally a mess, as others pointed out. Come here for the cars. Get a group that occupies all the cars. And try not to expect much from service side. Until this service + training improve that’s best recipe for success here.

I was so disappointed. Booked for a party of 12 on New Years’ Eve only to be told that the corporate office didn’t know what they were doing and should have only allowed a maximum of 10. We had dinner reservations so 3 people in my party didn’t race the last race so we could get out on time. During one race, one car would not go and they had to stop the racing 7 times. They crew told me it was the drivers fault but the driver was told (by the same crew) it was probably a bad wire. They did nothing to try and make-​up for the aggravation. When I spoke with the manager, she offered to refund the 3 drivers who didn’t race the last one $ 10 each but then asked for their credit cards to do the transaction. I understand they need to work out some kinks but the Customer Service response was ridiculous.

I was very disappointed in the service. It not only took what felt like hours to be serviced to pay for my actual races, but I also had to pay a membership fee? First of all, I wasted 6 dollars because I will more than likely never go back again. So thank you for making me pay some made up charge so you can sucker more money out of your customer. Also, $ 20 a race ?! Twenty dollars for a single race … I know of places with better service, friendlier staff, an actual café which has staff working behind it at all times, and functions perfectly THAT COST HALF OF THIS!!!
I can not believe I paid that much for a few laps.
A member of our party actually left before we raced because it took nearly 2 hours to be called! I appreciate the staff offering a seat adjuster to accommodate for my little legs, how ever I think they could have prepped some of the other groups that went out. When I’m wasting a lap under yellow because someone can’t figure out how to reverse I blame the staff for not demonstrating how to operate the karts.
The facility is pretty sweet. I’ll forever be more a fan of F1, but the concept was pretty similar. You’re definitely paying for the experience of the place rather than the actual experience of racing.
The only reason I can give them one star is because of the pizza. Which I had to buy while we wasted two hours waiting because we were starving. However, the pizza was delicious and had an amazing dough. Unless they start giving the pizza out for free I will never be back.

I just went here on January 2, 2016. Don’t know why the other person was complaining. Things seem to be run smoothly. Note, first timers need to register on the computers either online or onsite. Then get in line to sign up for and pay for races. I only waited about 20 mins to race.
The race is exhilarating. These aren’t your beach town go karts. They’re fast! I spun it sometimes in turns. Didn’t realize we’d be going fast enough to do that.

This is for a visit on 12/​31/​2015 arriving at 1140am. Being someone who has experienced K1 Speed in Atlanta, GA, I was expecting the same quality at this location in Wilmington. The one in Kingston, MA is running like a well-​oiled machine. However, this location opened 2 weeks ago and it seems like it could have benefitted from having some of their crew show them the ropes during the opening month.
For some reason, their computers are not yet synced with the corporate computers so after waiting quite a while to be acknowledged I was told I had to re register for this location… now I bet there will be a duplicate in the system.
The cashier was frazzled and could not task, making the checking in process suck because taking papers out of the printer was higher priority than checking in a line of customers.
The track management is horrible. The crew is supposed to be seating the next group while the running group races. One track was running smoothly and track 2 who seemed to have the supervisor running it was doing it poorly… backing up the process. This resulted in legs being behind by about 11 minutes. For example, one driver was just getting seated in track 2 his name was being called on track 1. The races were supposed to be 20 – 40 minutes apart.
The second star for this review is a bonus because the facilities are on par with other locations but if it weren’t for its newness, is definitely just give a 1 star. I’m hoping that the next time I come up to New England in a few months that I can update this review with a higher rating!
