Meet the Business Owner
Mary L.
Business Owner
I was raised in the restaurant industry starting in Athens, GA. Over 16 years, I worked at several successful restaurants there, and eventually opened my own two places, Five Star Day Café and Speakeasy with my business partners. I moved to Wilmington in 2007 after catering a dinner for the Lee Brothers, James Beard award winning authors of a definitive Southern cookbook. Inspired by their passion for Southern tradition, I followed my heart and opened The Basics to give Wilmington, NC a sense of our shared Southern culinary history.
