Nig’s Bar

You cannot go to the dells and not stop for a swig at nigs. Met a nice local at the jukebox and he let me spend the rest of his money on my playlist. I think his name was Richard and he had a nice beard. Also I checked in on Facebook and the own came up to me to introduce himself. Nice gesture.

Average bar, but it’s legacy must be noted! Stop in, grab a drink, and a t-​shirt!

Well, this place is pretty okay I guess. We stopped in to watch part of a Packer game and they had a nice homemade potluck thing going on in the corner. I can only imagine the wives and grandmothers who slaved over the spinach dip and BBQ mini hot dogs. The bartender, and obviously knowing we were not locals, graciously offered for us to enjoy any of the food.
They had better taps than what some people are saying, maybe they’ve upgraded or it’s just my taste. Prices were reasonable, we even got a couple of free beers.
We hid in the corner but talked to other tourists that seems nice.
Overall, this bar does what it’s supposed to do, offers drinks at a reasonable price and gets you buzzed. They have enough TVs for the sports folk and plenty of space to accommodate. The women’s bathroom was scary but other than that, not a bad place. I wouldn’t go out of my way to hang out there but in passing it’s a nice stop.

Nig’s is your stereotypical «locals» dive bar located in the heart of a seasonal tourist town. Personally my husband, friends and I think it is awesome every time we have gone and we are ALWAYS amused by the shegnanigans of the more than colorful clientele that flocks to this joint! The drinks are more than adequate and so, your bartender may be a bit on the surly side, suck it up Sally, chillax and have a drunken good time!!!

It’s a dive bar in the middle of Chicago-​North! Service was good and the prices were great. The restrooms were … divey.

Specials were great, local and domestics on tap, featured beer (a local wheat ale) was amazing, and the bartender was great. Not only could be be friendly, casual, and inviting, he could handle a bar — full of people on a Packer game day in Wisconsin — by himself. And be professional, and accommodating.

We rolled into this establishment with a 9-​set bachelor party on a Saturday night. After having a couple of drinks I notice that country music is punishing my ears. When I scanned the tavern for the jukebox I noticed that the interior setup was a steaming mess. There were 5 of those gambling machines that don’t pay out any money, next to an ATM that charges $ 2.50 per withdrawal. On a different wall there was like 3 dartboards, some other nonsense, and the jukebox! On the way to the men’s bathroom is a pool table where two tea-​totaling pool sharks inevitably use the area of 2 pool tables for their game, it’s difficult to successfully navigate. And the décor was tired, lame, and dusty.
The country music pounding through this dive bar was more than I could take so I spent $ 20 on the jukebox. I put on a GLAM METAL CLINIC and thus destroyed the pleasant townie atmosphere the WiDells locals created for themselves. As soon as glam metal giant Cinderella came in over the tavern speakers a third of the patrons evacuated the premises. Two of my buds told me that I changed the vibe of the whole tavern. It also cleared space on the floor for more exuberant dancing.
Here’s the trick to the jukebox: $ 0.50-$ 1 a song– pay extra to skip all the rest of the music and also pay extra to play the music video version so locals get educated on how androgynously sexy MTV looked 25 years ago. The jukebox is one in which you can play just about any song through the search function.
During our Glam Metal singing and dancing fun we shattered a pint glass on the floor. None of the staff cared– I’ve been 86’d from other establishments for far less.
The men’s bathroom is awesome for exhibitionalist males! You can surprise other dudes with your junk during the evacuation process as there is nothing to prevent wandering eyes after opening up the bathroom door. Do a back lean for extra affect.
To close out our time at Nig’s I gifted the townies thrash metal through a set of Pantera and Anthrax music videos.
On the upside, buying 9 drinks at a time costs $ 36 and they serve them quickly.
Tip: don’t buy a ‘had a swig at Nig’s’ shirt at the tavern, just go to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army and get a used one for $ 2.

Not sure what all the fuss is about this place. I spent an August weekend night in the Dells and thought I’d check out some of the local businesses. Nig’s has a catchy slogan and word of mouth says that it’s a bar to visit. Conveniently located on a major strip.
Upon first entry I was taken aback by the mish-​mash of décor. Signs stapled to the angled ceiling, dart games blocking the flow of movement, obnoxious neon signs, and a bar that has seen better days.
The crowd reminded me of my college days…14 years ago. It was like the same people were time warped here except with more tattoos.
The bar staff was nice but uninformed. I asked for a Paloma, which is a relatively simple summer drink. The bartender never heard of it. The beer selection was minimal. I’m guessing it’s a steady stream of rail whiskey/​rum & soda drinks all night. Price per drink was standard for most semi urban Wisconsin cities.
Overall, not recommended. If you’re interested in the novelty or want a tshirt, stop by. If you’re looking for a good bar, keep walking.

The infamous Nigs on the strip in the Dells. Excellent for people watching although I find the tap list to be lacking.

Nigs is located in the heart of downtown, but it’s a breath of fresh air from the surrounding cheesy gimmicks.
We visited early in the evening and had no trouble getting a seat right at the bar. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Drink prices were reasonable and we noticed they had some great specials.
I gave ⁴⁄₅ stars only because the restrooms were clean, but could use some TLC. The toilets, sinks, etc. were definitely on their last leg. The tile in the ladies’ room was cracked and missing in some places — which I can imagine could spell disaster for a tipsy lady in heels. My hubby noted that the locks on the stalls in the men’s room were either broken or spaced too far apart to actually lock.
The overall atmosphere is laidback. Great people, great music, and lots of fun. We’ll definitely be back!

When you’re in the Dells you gotta have a «Swig at Nigs». So we did… a few times. It’s a total dive, but that’s what’s fun about it! Can’t go to the Dells without stopping in at Nigs.

We stayed here in early October and spent about 3 hours at Nig’s on Friday night, the atmosphere and people reminded me of bars back home were everybody knows you. We had a couple pitchers of two hearted ale and a couple of Hopalicious by ale asylum they were only like $ 8 a pitcher for craft beer.
On Saturday we ducked our heads into the Sandbar and pitchers of Miller lite were $ 10 we opted for another option. We then proceeded to duck into the showboat saloon and the crowd was generally early 20’s D-​Bags who use the terms «SWAG» and don’t curve the bills of their hats… we ended going back to Nig’s and enjoyed ourselves for a couple hours.

If you can get past the name, it’s yet another great divey joint the Dells has to offer.

It’s a dive bar with the tradition to enjoy a «swig» there. If you don’t get that it happens to be somebody’s name or are offended because you infer otherwise, don’t stop by. It will open a barstool for those of us who are in the Dells to have fun. Staff was very polite.

Loud music, darts and even slots to entertain. Alcohol prices were very reasonable, bar was spacious and not overly crowded. Was attracted to the establishment by the name, had a swig at Nigs and even bought a shirt to prove it. Must check it out if your bar hoping at the dells. I will be back there.

There are better dive bars in the Dells. The greatest attraction to the place was the name, obviously.
I had a cranberry vodka, he had a captain and coke. Drinks were fine. Then we ordered jello shots. They were prepackaged, like pudding cups! And they tasted awful.
It appears lots of locals hang out here, as well as tourists, but the locals at Nig’s DON’T like tourists. At least not the «too cool» 20-​something locals.
If you like dive bars, and are in the Dells, go to Sandbar, Tipper’s or Fisher’s. Hell, even the bar at Chalet Lanes bowling alley is better.

One of the worst-​named bars on the planet, it’s an okay place. It seems to be the go-​to bar for visitors and locals alike, and features a spacious floor with a dive-​bar feel.
They offer some pretty good drink deals, like $ 4 for a Miller-​filled pint glass that you get to take home, and the jukebox is digital (though most people seem to pick Nickleback and Kid Rock… thanks guys!). The ladies room is in need of some mid-​evening attention, but the stall wasn’t totally gross and had TP, so I guess it’s a win in that respect.
While I wouldn’t suggest it as a destination, you’ll at the very least have a decent time just watching the crowd.
