They don’t even deserve my one rating. They over-​charge and worst of all, use cheap parts on your car. This place was suppose replace rotors, breaks all around plus some other things-​not cheap. I had to take it back once because something was shaking underneath when I was driving home. Next, my parts looked shiny and new, now a month later, why does some of my parts look like they have been sitting outside in the junk yard for a week (rust)? This guy try to tell me the difference might be that I had dealer parts on my car and maybe these haven’t been coated or something. The question is why are you buying low quality parts; for God sake this is Michigan. He couldn’t even tell me where he got the parts. Don’t take your car to this shop.

If I could give them zero stars I would! They not only couldn’t figure out how to replace my alternator but when trying to remove it, they messed my car up even worse. Do not go to this place! Go anywhere else. Avoid at all costs. Take it anywhere else. I am now at another repair shop and there prices are better and they were able to fix the problem. My new mechanic has shown me everything that sams auto screwed up. I hate this place. AVOID THIS PLACE

NOT THIS TIME my wife took her 2003 Volks Gti for a brake inspection and muffler after having it all day they quoted her $ 2100 $ 600 just for rear brakes they told her disk, roters, and brake pads. $ 400 for fronts rotors and pads. And $ 1100 for a complete muffler system it all had to be replaced. Took it for second opinion to Speedy automotive on washtenaw great place fixed everything for $ 600. said brakes were fine. It need instead front lower arms, and a flexer for muffler. Now it stops on a dime and purrs like a kitten we are so happy I’m gonna take the Bimmer next

And here we are again. I’m getting ready to pick up my car because of a new issue I’ve been experiencing. As usual, we got really fast service and a final cost that I found that I had to ask twice to hear. I thought it would be MUCH higher!
If you haven’t trusted your car with these guys yet then you’re wasting your time and money. I’m very thankful for them.

A+ work! Amazing place– just moved into town and damaged the car trying to drive on ice. I called and they got my car in the same day. Really informative and honest business. They could’ve said anything was broken with how bad it looked/​drove but they fixed what needed to be done and the price was fantastic compared to what I thought it would be. Had my car the next morning even with needing many parts and labor. I will not be going anywhere else– this is the shop for my family.

I had a flat tire and a broken control arm, and they were able to fix all of it on a saturday. service was quick (3 hours!) and reasonable ($), polite people to deal with. Not sure if this matters to others, but location is also great along aata bus route. would recommend.

Unassuming looking place at the Citgo. Gave it a try cause it was walking distance from my place. Sure glad I did!
To the point, fast service. Dropped the car off in the AM, was called a few hours later with a very reasonable estimate, car was fixed by 5 pm.
No frills, no run arounds, no up-​sale bs, just fixed the car and sent me on my way. It was exactly what I wanted! The car has been working great ever since!

I needed a quick oil change and went here because it had great reviews. The oil change seems to have gone well enough — it was pretty fast, with no appointment — but I received HORRIBLE customer service at the register.
The young-​ish guy at the register must have been new, because he was having some trouble ringing up the gas purchase of the older woman in front of me. A second guy behind the register got up from his chair, literally shoved the first guy out of the way, said something about «get out of the way and let me get these f*****g customers out of here.» When the woman in front of me and guy #1 tried to explain what was going on, guy #2 interrupted and said, «One person talk at a time!» The woman in front of me left (understandably!) and said she’d get her gas elsewhere. Guy #2 called her an a**hole as she left, and then rang up my bill, slamming my receipt and keys on the counter, and failing to offer a kind word or an apology.
Dude had serious anger management issues– it was scary and uncomfortable for all involved. I would have MUCH preferred to wait another 2 minutes for him to show the new guy what to do than witness such unnecessary rudeness and vulgarity.
While this seems like a decent place to get an oil change, I won’t be coming back.

The credit card swipe is broken at most of their pumps. They never fill the paper in their receipt spools so you have to go in to get your receipt. They charge extra, usually 10 cents, to use credit/​debit cards. I used their auto service shop to fix an electrical problem with an old van. They fixed it but left my dome light on and it killed my battery. They didn’t replace the battery.

I have NO clue how I have lived in Ypsilanti almost my entire life and am just now discovering Sam’s?!? Thanks to Unilocal I have a new go-​to shop for my car repairs.
When it comes to my vehicle I am VERY cautious about who I go to for repairs. Sam’s has always been incredibly helpful, and, most of all, HONEST with me. They will admit when work doesn’t actually need to be done. They will give you estimates of repairs you may need to make in the near future and what can be held off on until a later time. As someone who isn’t quite so knowledgeable about cars, this makes me feel SO comfortable taking my vehicle to them for repair.
They charge a standard diagnostic fee of $ 35, which then goes towards any repairs they make, if necessary.
I always get an answer when I call and they are usually able to get my vehicle in that day or the next. They are always really quick when repairing my vehicle and make certain to call and update me of their progress. They totally take any worry out of car repairs and I feel absolutely safe and well-​taken care of when I leave my vehicle here for any work to be done. Believe me, I couldn’t ask for anything better than that!

Do NOT take your car here! Your car will sit for a week before they even look at it, while they continue to tell you it’s almost done.

Awesome, honest, affordable, competent, no BS, no-​frills service station. I’ve gone to Sam’s on several occasions with both of my cars and at this point I wouldn’t go anywhere else unless I had to. There was one instance where they felt my problem was too specialized and thought the dealer might have more insight, but that just speaks to their honesty and character. The work I’ve had done has been top-​notch and often less costly than the competition. Go to Sam’s the next time you need a mechanic. You won’t be sorry.

Despite being a loyal customer they tried to scam me! Sad but true I was told I needed $ 2000 with of work done on my car… nothing they told me was broken was true.LAIRS. I was always patient because I thought they had integrity and were honest with so I would wait days for my car to be fixed in the past without complaining but this place sucks and it may seem good at first but beware it won’t last

My wife and I have been going to Sam’s for years. Glen is the best service manager I’ve ever met and Allen is terrific as well. Except for oil changes and car washes, which I do, Sam’s does all our car repair. We live a couple blocks away and before using them I did some price comparison. They won our business and now we don’t think of going anywhere else because we trust them implicitly. Had another repair today and was wowed, again, with the reasonable price and outstanding service. I’d would have to say that Glen is about as honest as they come for mechanics. I still call them from Detroit to get quotes and compare prices over the phone. Glen is always glad to help me out. And you never feel uneasy talking with Glen like many mechanics make you feel. He is just a good guy in a profession where, unfortunately, too many dishonest people try to rip you off.

Been going here for several years. I always get what I consider to be an honest and fair diagnosis. It’s hard to find a trustworthy place to take a car, esp when you’re female… glad I found them. Prices are also competitive.

We drive to a Chelsea tree farm to cut a Christmas tree and notice a thin wisp of smoke and a burning smell issuing from under the hood on the passenger side of my 11-​year-​old Subaru. Heart sinking. Lift the hood. See nothing. No engine light on, no oil light on. Drive back to Ypsi, terrified that the car is going to break down on 94. Because it has to be a belt or a hose, right?
We make it back. Still a small wisp of smoke, still the burning smell.
Monday morning – car goes to Sam’s. Glenn checks everything and can’t find any problems. So he puts the car on the lift and has a look underneath. And sure enough, 11 years of driving have resulted in a large impacted mass of dirt and crud right up against the heat shield. He knocks it out. No more smoke, no more burning smell.
And the cost for all that work? The standard diagnostic fee: $ 35.
Seriously – if you live anywhere near this area and you don’t take your car to Sam’s, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Glenn is THE BEST. Period.

This place was recommended to me by my friend and co-​worker, he told me he had his Audi and brought it in all the time to get it serviced by Glen @ Sam’s auto.
At first I was a little cautious as I have had mixed results with automotive shops, usually you are bound to run into a shop that tries to ‘skin you alive’ and take unnecessary money out of you for bringing your car in for something simple. (read my AutoLab review in Belleville /​Rawsonville).
I’ve gone to Sam’s now for 2 years, for both household cars (2003 Jetta & 1998 Accord). Oil changes and brake jobs were completed here, as well as minor fixes and analysis when needed.
I’m not a mechanic, and I was never interested in cars, my speciality is all things IT, so I feel pretty stupid when it comes to my car, I know the basics, but I don’t know enough to change my own brakes, or do minor repairs /​oil changes. And quite frankly I don’t want to when I can pay someone to do it that I trust. Sam’s auto is such a place.
I am writing this review because I was almost ripped off at Autolab, they quoted me a ridiculous fee of $ 600 for brakes and rotors for my 2003 Jetta. I was stunned, but the guy told me, listen its brakes and rotors so I thought. hmm ok… but quickly called Sam’s auto and they laughed when I told them the initial quote. Sam’s quoted me $ 298 for the same job! At the same time the Autolab guys told me I needed repair on my front right ball joint (?) which would be another $ 400 totaling something like $ 1100. Glen @ Sam’s quickly told me there was nothing wrong he could see, and assured me there was nothing else ‘he could charge me for’.
Needless to say I’ll be coming back to Sam’s if something breaks.

I had my 2003 explorer towed to them because it wouldn’t start and I needed a diagnostic to figure out what was wrong. The next day I got a call and they told me that it was the alternator, battery and belt then asked if they could proceed and it would cost $ 469. Well, I’m pretty good at fixing cars and have done a few alternators so I said no, I will get it towed. Well, upon further investigation the only problem was a dead battery, total of $ 85 at Autozone and I’m good to go. I thinks he tried to rip me off…

I’ve been taking my 2002 Mazda with 121,000 miles on it to Sam’s on a regular basis for a couple of years now and I continue to sing their praises.
They take care of me! From oil changes to brakes to exhaust system to headlights to suspension repairs, I’ve had it all done for reasonable prices and fine-​by-​me turnaround time (usually the same day).
I just bring my car over in the morning (no appointment necessary, but for big things I let them know a day or two ahead of time) and they call me with an estimate later in the day. Give them the go-​ahead and it’s usually ready later that afternoon.
Trustworthy, priced-​right, and good workmanship will keep me coming back to Sam’s as often as my aging car needs it!
