Holy cr*poly! Mr Viet takes the cake for hottest frickin’ chillies I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant! Friggin’ awesomesauce! I could barely sip my phở without the exhilarating sensation of my mouth being set on fire… it was amazing! There was a bowl sitting near all the cutlery/napkins etc which said ‘chillies — caution: hot’ or something similar(it was a while ago now) and I thought ‘hellz to the yes I want some super hot chilli action in my phở!’ Boom! Heat explosions in every bite. So. Bl**dy good. Om nom nom! The phở itself was really good too. Mr Viet is a seemingly quaint little joint down James Place in the Adelaide CBD, and one worth checking out if you’re down with the Vietnamese treats. There is a long bar you can sit at to enjoy your meal/drink/s, and they serve alcohol too. My absolute favourite part about the whole experience though, was that they sell sriracha sauce by the bottle! I grabbed a bottle(of course) and have been using it at home on basically anything I eat. It’s the best. I’m going back soon because I am running out of sriracha at home, so I will post more updates and photos, but for now, get in and try Mr Viet! It is amazing!

On a quick trip to Adelaide, I came across this little Vietnamese noodle bar serving beef noodle soup and beer on tap. It’s quick and friendly service and the beef noodle soup tastes pretty good. They also have a jar of chilli sauce and it was awesome! They actually also sell the chilli sauce in a take-home jar and loving chilli of course I had to buy one. Beef noodle soup and a beer costs $ 13.

Service is super lovely and attentive, it has an exposed brick wall(which I love), plenty of funky looking wooden furniture, and you can sit outside or at the counter or at a low table! The vibe is great at Mr Viet and there is nothing that says nourishing comfort food to me then rice noodles, beef broth, and all the trimmings. It’s not too expensive(my lunch was under $ 10)and I’m looking forward to coming back to try the iced coffee.

Late on a very busy afternoon, our group of four were famished and stopped in for a re-fuel on our shopping adventure. Like many new Vietnamese joints popping up around the city area, Mr Viet is funky and kind of hipster — a stark contrast to the kind of Vietnamese places I’ve grown up with — always a little seedy and risky looking but always full of delicious meals!!! The menu was certainly appealing enough to reel us in however unfortunately many of the items were, by that time, sold out. This also included main items for particular selections i.e. no pork for any salads and no soups what so ever! For this reason, I can’t at this stage give the place more stars — one or two sold out items can be forgiven but a large chunk of the menu being unavailable? That’s just annoying! What I can say is that the beef salad I had was yummy — the serve a little smaller than what you would find in outer suburbs but for a city location the price and serving size matched — plus it was still plenty for me! The iced coffee too was good, but once again, smaller than what you might find elsewhere. A real standout to our group though was the $ 5 beers — and friendly service to match, features which will see us all return to see if the joint can redeem itself!

It seems the word is getting out for this funky little place as they were pretty non — stop tonight which meant food was a little slow coming out. Not ideal when one’s stomach is eating itself! Service was though, exceptionally personable and friendly. I think they nailed the broth for the BBH which tasted authentic with a good dose of spices. There’s a few things they could do to take it to the next level such as adding a side of cabbage salad which normally accompanies this dish. They received the feedback really well. Loved the fact that they had the traditional filtered coffee with condensed milk! All in all, a good find and a good feed. I’d come back to suss out the rest of the menu.

I came to Mr Viet today with my friend and we order Bun Bo Hue(the spicy vermicelli soup). The B.B.H here is so tasty and i really wanted to have the second bowl after finishing the first one. The staff are friendly and they welcomed us with big smile. Sometimes they walked around and had some small conversations with customers We had a seat and the food came out to us just in a short time :) The decoration of the shop is also nice. Both I and my friend really enjoyed it! I will definitely come back to Mr Viet again: D

The Vietnamese food craze that is sweeping Adelaide is fantastic. I’ve been to Vietnam and had traditional vietnamese food, these guys really know how to do it. Mr Viet avoid the now quite westernised«Bahn Mi» or vietnamese roll and focus on more traditional dishes such as Phở, pork buns and rice paper Cold rolls. While none of these are especially hard to make, they are prepared expertly and with love by the guys at Mr Viet. The restaurant is a beautiful pokey little joint with bright colours everywhere and music playing, the staff are all friendly and polite. I will definitely be returning and bringing friends!

I noticed Mr Viet pop up next to Soonta in Jimmy P* after the café/bar formerly occupying the space came to the end of its short life and, when looking for a quick lunch to grab and go, went in and ordered the beef phở. Actually, just between you and me, I ordered the beef bun(salad bowl) but was misheard. Luckily I’m always down to phở and took it as a sign. The service was jocular and friendly and I took a seat at one of the small outside tables to wait for my takeaway order, admiring the re-fit with plenty of the requisite reclaimed wood and typewriter-fonted menus. I had barely registered the place as a new business on Unilocal and was ready to check in and take some photos when my order was brought out to me! I hauled my bag back to the office and did the prep. The beef pieces were tender and good quality but I hate those mystery beef ball things so I picked them out. The broth was delicious and there were plenty of fat flat noodles to slurp. Needless to say, the Spray ‘n’ Wipe came out for the desk afterwards. In short, it was phở’n delicious and I plan to go back very soon(possibly today). This time I don’t want none unless you got bun, hun! * That’s James Place to you

These guys are just settling in, and liking some friendly chats & feedback. Great customer service, quick & delicious food. Licensed too, for a cheeky afternoon bevvy. Will be back soon!
