A weekend in Hobart saw the opportunity to visit this gorgeous and quaint café in Battery Point. While compact in size, with the fireplace burning(not a real fireplace, but real enough on a chilly Winter’s day) the intimate setting is perfect, and the food… scrumdiddliumptious!!! While the menu matches the setting in terms of size, there were enough vegan options to make the process of choosing difficult, thanks to a kitchen that is very happy to try an veganise a lot of the dishes listed… what more could you ask for?! I started the defrosting process with a soy peppermint hot chocolate, kind of like a liquid form Mint Pattie… delicious! For breakfast I chose the chia seed pudding, with coconut cream(and other delicious additions that I can’t quite remember) which was gorgeous to look at, with an exquisitely complex mix of flavours and textures. I came in cold and hungry, and left full, chilled(in a good way) and happy(with several bags of the teas that they had on offer as a little momento). If you ever venture to Hobart, and happen across this miniature charmer, do yourself a favour and pop inside.

Cute room, knowledgeable and enthusiastic hosts, great selection of brews. My chai was spicy and clovey and perfect on a cold day when I’d already had too much caffeine. Recommendation to purchase the Moroccan mint tea to take away — looking forward to trying these leaves at home.

After the«Burger Tour Of Hobart» we’ve been undertaking for the past week, a need was expressed for foods which had been cooked for less than 24 hours. Pollen hooked us up with beautifully presented and balanced bircher, and strong yet tender coffees.

Such a cute café on the main rd of Battery Point. The staff are really friendly which makes for a pleasant dining experience. I love that there are also lots of tasty vegetarian options on the menu. The coffee is delicious and they use Bön Soy which is a great find in a Tassie café. Oh and the raw/vegan treats are so utterly delightful(I dream of raw cheesecake)!

We discovered Pollen Tea Room while wandering Battery Point. Its black and white exterior was distinctive and their menu was vegetarian save for a single dish with salmon. Their banana toast was gorgeous slices of banana with walnuts, honey and yoghurt on bread. Their chilli had a lovely deep flavour. Their tea came from Zee Tea and was brewed in a Japanese iron teapot. I drank the Monk’s Blend of green and black tea with jasmine, vanilla and pear.

I love a place that has a tea menu larger than the food/coffee menu. It gets me all excited. Tea is like wine for breakfast, so much intricacy that goes into the growing regions, the terroir, and the methods behind picking and transporting. You can literally taste the journey, as long as you don’t dilute it with milk & sugar, haha. On the menu, they even have suggested number of steep for each type of tea! Pollen is really a tea ROOM, not a large restaurant. The atmosphere is casual and cute, a perfect place for denim jackets and hip facial hair. It really makes Battery Point the coolest spot in Hobart. The food is also excellent as well. I had poached eggs covered in homemade walnut pesto with olive oil’ed bread. And my girlfriend had cubed avocado with smoked salmon. Both were delectable and I(almost) licked my wood serving board clean, but I was worried about splinters. Remember, cosy = small. Only about 10 people can fit into Pollen at any one time, so be prepared to wait on the weekends. Highly recommended for your travels to Hobart!

I kind of wish I were a tea person because if you are, Pollen Tea Room is certainly set to satisfy, offering about thirty different varieties of tea. For the caffeine heads among us they don’t disappoint, offering a very nice blend brewed to perfection. The food is also lovely, beautiful baked eggs as well as a variety of other dishes and snacks. Definitely somewhere to get to in beautiful Battery Point.

Welcome to the sweetest, cosiest little corner of Battery Point. Okay, I could be wrong because the entire suburb is adorable, but stepping into Pollen makes me really happy. Warm décor, cute space, friendly staff and a delicious menu. It almost feels sacrilegious to drink coffee here but it’s so good, I can’t not! Plus… I’m trying this new«direct and honest» thing lately, so when the gent asked me how my coffee was on my last visit, I told him honestly that it wasn’t the best, but it was drinkable. He took it off me, demanded my feedback, and came back a few minutes later with a much improved version. Just awesome service.
