Good bar where to taste, enjoy and buy Nant whisky. Many types of whisky to try. Bar nested on a small side street close to the Salamanca market, a perfect spot during the Taste of Tasmania fair during Th end of December and beginning of January. Well worth a visit, excellent whisky from Tasmania.

This was my favorite bar in Hobart. Super friendly staff. Great drinks. Nice music. Warm ambiance. Awesome clientele. I came here both nights I was in town, and as a solo traveler I felt extremely welcomed both times.

Staff were nice and knowledgable. Prices were expensive but if you like whisky there was still something for all budgets. Would have been good to be told about the cocktail of the week!

To the management! ! We visited on the salamanca place Nant Whisky Bar after the market in december after a bit of relief from market fatigue and we were welcomed by Allison enjoyed a restorative bottle of local bubbly and then began our introduction to the Nant Whiskies all ably and affably described with enthusiasm and skill by Allison via the tastings. With out a doubt a well spent interlude in delightful surroundings with outstanding products well delivered. Do it!

I was unsure whether Nant was open(it was pretty early) but inside we found an affable bartender alone in the dark. In front of him were three bottles of Nant whisky which we tried in the recommended order. The first was from a sherry cask and bottled at 43%. It was refreshingly bright with a scent of citrus. The second was a port cask also at 43%. I found it a bit clumsy and lacking in length. The third was aged in a tiny 20 litre port cask and served at 63%. I found this more graceful than the second but we both preferred the first.

So Hobart after dark doesn’t offer many quiet night spots or small bars unlike some bigger Aussie cities– but to my excitement I stumbled across Nant, a wisky bar in the Salamanca precinct of Hobart! On approach I had high hopes for this place that it may Chanel some of the great speakeasys I’ve experienced– but I was somewhat disappointed with the interior and feel– from lighting being too bright to not quite the right playlist for somewhere that should ooze and drip a wisky consuming atmosphere! That aside– it is still worth the experience! I being no wisky connoisseur quickly sought help from the incredibly helpful staff who suggested a tasting size of 3 of Nants finest(beware the final of the 3 is over 60%). This was by far the best option allowing me to fully appreciate the complexities of the flavours of each of the wiskys… So stumble home I did at the end of the evening– a sign of a great wisky bar!

Nant Whiskey Bar is an experimental beast which showcases the sometimes unknown and forgotten art of Australian Whiskey. I’ve always known about Australian Whiskey but to easily find it at your local bottle-o is near next to impossible. My guess is that the Salamanca bar is simply conceptual and a launching point for other bars which will open around Australia in the near future. Apparently Melbourne is only 3 weeks away, so if you want some Nant Single Malt you can finally purchase it from this new bar. I hope. I did purchase a miniature bottle of the bourbon noted whiskey and I hope to be able to do future purchases but Victorian Liquor laws may prevent taking the bottle out of the bar. There may be a potential you can buy a bottle and store it at the Melbourne bar for future use. Anyway, I digress… The Salamanca bar is nice and quaint and shows you a side to Tasmania that goes beyond the Cadbury factory and Cascade. The Midlands Distillery is apparently under 20ks away and has a nice tasting room with apparently an even better restaurant. I visited this bar after dinner with my wife at the Greek restaurant opposite. We were greeted by two well versed bar tenders who enjoyed telling us all about what was on offer within the Nant range and even venturing to the Scottish, Japenese and American cousins. The service was excellent and I will definitely be back on my next visit to Hobart!

«Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.» The Nant Bar really opens your eyes to this! An odd little space hidden in a laneway, with a lot of potential. The décor on one side brings up images of a slightly classy gentle men’s club, where the financial review is read in detail, cigars smoulder on a silver ashtray and no one under the age of 60 is permitted entry. Complete with a feature wall of natures beauty in Autumn. The area over the bar was a little bit on the darker, drunken whisky drinker side. As a non whisky drinker it took the staff a little while to warm up to us. We did order Skinnyman a whisky flight(3 nip taster platter). Even though we were the only people in. And it was a Wednesday evening. Once they opened up they were a wealth of knowledge on local attractions, places to avoid and general Hobart gossip. Not to mention vastly knowledgable on all things whisky. The bar tender even walked us through the coffee infused whisky used for espresso martinis! They offered a simple, enjoyable wine list. Not a cheap night out though. According to Skinnyman you really get what you pay for whisky wise. We would happily go back and enjoy the all knowledgable all female staff during our next Hobart tour!

I moved from Brisbane to Hobart, and then Nant Distillery(a Tassie native) opened a whisky cellar & bar… in Brisbane. I was upset and confused. But then everything was made better a few months later when a cellar & bar opened up in one of Salamanca’s little sandstone nooks. PHEW. However… the Salamanca bar is an odd beast. Tiny, bedecked in golds and olives, with some grandiose seating offerings(think high-backed chairs and chaise lounges), and only room for around a dozen people to sit comfortably, the vibe in here is odd both during the day and once the sun sets. The menu is whisky, whisky, and more whisky, so don’t come in if you don’t like whisky or you’re not keen to find out if you may like whisky. There is a classic whisky cocktail list with some killer options like Blood & Sand, Ward Eight and the Sazerac, so my nerdy cocktail heart was delighted, but they’re quite expensive and it’s not really the kind of space you feel comfortable sitting, sipping and chatting in. The whisky itself is amazing, and I believe Nant is right up at the top of the list as far as Tasmania’s whisky exports go, but I’d probably rather just buy a bottle and drink it at home, as the Nant Whisky Cellar & Bar is more like a showroom than a bar.
