If your happy to pay $ 8.50 for a tiny piece of rawsome choc mint slice then the Common Ground won’t disappoint. If you are hungry this café will empty your wallet faster then a strip club. The interior of this café is modern and clean but this can not justify their prices. Their coffee is only average as well as their service. Everything available at the Common Ground is overpriced.

Work had me nearby and I needed a place for a quick bite before moving on and I found this place tucked away in the uni. Plenty of seating indoors and under cover seating outdoors. Heaps to choose from on the menu and I am disappointed with myself that I only had the toastie(because I was short on time) as the burgers looked delicious They have rawsome treats and wraps and sandwiches on display that all look good and a range of drinks which is just short of a mile long Lovely staff and reasonable prices

Finally a decent place at Curtin who serves drinkable coffee and edible food at a reasonable price! The introduction of Common Ground was long overdue. It is the perfect hideout from all things academic, with its minimalistic, sleek woody interior and open space floor plan, perfect for a cheeky bevvy with friends, a quick bite to eat or a coffee on the run. I haven’t tried their food, but they have plenty of muffins, rawsome treats and sandwiches on display. They also have a comprehensive menu offering fresh, modern Australian dishes. They are passionate about providing wholesome, locally and ethically produce products, 100% free of all the nasty stuff– which is great when you have some serious studying to do! My common order is the Green Smoothie, which consists of kale, avocado, kiwifruit, apple, spirulina and soy milk. It might not sound great, but it tastes AMAZING and makes me feel super healthy and full of energy– because what uni student doesn’t resemble a zombie, especially on Monday morning? So when you need pick me up and your sick of the mass produced guild café outlets(excluding Angazi because they have good salads!) that cost you an arm and leg, this should be your next port of call!

Back in early 2013 I was raving about the Common Ground, but one year later I’m not so sure. When The Common Ground first opened its doors after taking over from Scholars it was a high quality, lecturer targeting café at Curtin University that was a great change from the other cafes that were targeting students. Sadly, this is no longer the case. Atmosphere: This quiet escape is now a filled to the brim with students, though the outdoor area is still a nice place to eat on campus. Service: The friendly staff are still pleasant but run off their feet, especially during peak hour that there is little time for pleasantries. The food: The menu still offers a variety great options such as the vegetable stack which is full of flavour, but I think the quality of the food has changed over the past year as the dish is now very petite for the price. What really bothers me is that the burgers which use to be large gourmet stacks of flavour served on a wonderful wooden plank and steak knife are now just small one handed burgers served on plastic trays, which in my opinion is a reflection of a majority of what most of the food on the menu has become. At least the coffee is still permanent coffee on campus. Like many places, the charm of this quaint café when out the window when they targeted the student market. To be honest, there is now little difference between this café and other places at Curtin University which makes me a little sad. I will still be coming here to grab a take-away coffee, but beyond that I’m sad to say I don’t rave about this place anymore.

Love the staff here! I’ve been here for breakfast and coffee nearly every chance I can. Coffee is made very well and the food is all prepared on site. Lunch menu is cheap and very student friendly! The setup of the place is sophisticated yet still on trend, love that you have something to look at whether you’re inside or out, whether it be lights, owl sculptures or the abundance of plants outside! Best place on campus for a good coffee and feed! Optimal conditions for catching up with a friend!
