Yes its Vietnamese but its a pretty poor representation of Vietnamese Cuisine. Understanding its in a food court and all but the beauty of Vietnamese cuisine is that its easy to make as long as the ingredients are fresh. I didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy my Phở or my Bahn Mi since it was merely a Meh experience but for the price, it deserved another star. Hence, 3 star review.

What can I say of my growing love affair with Phở Viet? I’ve been three times in a week. That’s a pretty good sign. I’m a big fan of the lemongrass beef salad — which comes with rice noodles, grated carrot, cucumber, lettuce and a small amount of thin soup. It’s got a spice to it already, but I made the inevitable mistake I always make of adding extra chili. BEWARE! The chili on the bench is birdseye — the chili that gives peri peri its spice(no pun intended). Much like myself, these little things are spicy(pun intended)! I figured they were just good old red chilies and heaped them on, leading to a burning mouth later. I’ve also had the roast pork roll — or «banh my» as they’ve called it. It is a good approximation of banh mi with a really lovely crunchy baguette and yummy fresh chopped carrots and pork. The pork could be more crunchy, buts its still pretty good. Be prepared to be covered in crunchy baguette crumbs after you eat this — not a meal to order on a delicate lunch date. As an aside, the«banh my» comes in six different flavours including a pressed pork round, chicken and others. But you cant go to a place called«phở viet» without trying the phở. I got the chicken phở and it is just beautiful. Really lovely sweet stock, fresh vegetables and chili as well as delicious chicken. Topped off with a flat rice noodle. I — you’re sensing the pattern here right — again added extra birds eye chili(because I never learn) and spent the next fifteen minutes happily slurping up soup in between taking huge gulps of coconut juice to cool the burn. They have pretty good prices and you can easily get lunch there for under $ 12. They also make a nice fresh coconut juice, although its among the more expensive drinks at $ 4.50. You will see me there again… probably eating all the chili.

I searched for a good Phở restaurant and was very happy I tried Phở Viet. Perfect size serving with a lot of meat. Serve yourself sauces with chili oil also available. The broth is really good and served nice and hot. I’ve had a lot of phở and this ranks right up there with the better restaurants I’ve been to.

I was sitting in my lecture at uni when I had a sudden urge to eat atleast 50 Banh Mi. I was atleast 30 minutes away from the nearest Vietnamese melting pot, Needless to say I suffered horrifically for 3 hours with a hole in my stomach. When I finally made it to the city I found myself at Phở Viet, what I think used to be Viet D’lish, the really tacky shop with the pictures and fluro paper signs everywhere. Phở Viet’s exterior is modern, clean and minimalistic, maybe even a little too bare? I originally wanted Banh Mi but as the name of the shop is phở I thought I better give their main dish a try, I also got a Vietnamese Iced coffee. The food and drink were pretty swell, the phở was tasty and had just the right amount of noodles to beef/beef ball ratio and the iced coffee was delicious as always. Overall a very good and healthy alternative to a lot of the other trash being served in The Myer Centre, I saw that they also had the famous noodle salad and a chicken soup on their menu if you want to have a bit of variety.

New to the Myer Centre food court — took over the kiosk from Viet D’Lish. Reasonably priced Vietnamese dishes. Beef Phở with rare beef slices and beef balls for $ 9. Always busy at lunch times. Not bad, relatively tasty for a good price.

As far as good value takeaways for lunch in the CBD go, you can’t beat Phở Viet. $ 9 for a rice noodle salad with beef, made with fresh ingredients while you wait. It’s healthy(–ish — I mean, I get beef on the salad, and top it with a vinaigrette, so it’s not pure health food, but it beats a burger), tastes great, and won’t break the bank. The phở is really, really nice too. As good as AJ’s, for sure.
