A nice place to go with friends and family. The movies are great, with interesting interiors and all sorts of movies from latest release films to European films. I love to get a drink at Los Villanos bar before we go or grab a bite to eat from libertine or Chelsea cafes. 2 hours free parking and multiple levels which I just discovered. Level 2 car park has no one using it. Lorna Jane $ 5 yoga classes are fun. The have a big studio but you would not even know it’s there. Book classes on line via Lorna Jane. Coles supermarket, which is huge and open 7 days. They have great pizza place, medical centre and pharmacy. And love the 20⁄20 optometrist with very cool glasses. As local I just love this place to go out.

I like that you can park right here — with 2hrs free. The Barracks has a great selection of shops — especially when it comes to dining choices. I like to get my car washed while I’m here too — just a little added pleasure to what is a lovely shopping experience.

The Barracks has been a welcome addition to the Brisbane dining and shopping scene. Plenty of parking and the first two hours is free and or further discounted if for example if, as a cinema patron, you have your ticket validated. There are high quality high end restaurants such as Libertine, Chelsea and Peasant ably supported by a range of casual dining outlets. Of note there is a pharmacy, and ATM, an Internet Café and a bottle shop. The anchors of this centre are a Coles Supermarket and Palace Cinemas. All in all there’s something for everyone at the Barracks.

I don’t quite know how to describe The Barracks. It’s not really a shopping centre, but it’s a nice little place where you can catch a movie or a bite to eat, and yes, do a little shopping. Great location, smack dab between Roma St and Paddington, and even a short walk from South Brisbane/West End, it might be a little too central on game days. It’s an easy wander up from Roma St Station, but there is on site parking; but it ain’t cheap. Not in that location! But the cinemas are quite nice, and lots of delicious food options. Not a bad little place to visit.

The Barracks have completely revived the nightlife of the Petrie Tce /Caxton St area, pushing the less-than-delightful Cackers crowd down further and making room for exceptional dining, delicious drinking and wine filled movie viewing. I love my Barracks.

I’ve been avoiding shopping and dining at the Barracks lately because parking here takes too much effort. I understand that they want to exclude commuters and Caxton Street goers from their car parks but the two hour free parking does not work well for Palace cinema visitors. Most movies go for a minimum of two hours so even if you get your parking ticket validated, you’ll get hit up for a $ 7 minimum parking fee. The last time I tried to catch Norwegian Woods at the Palace Barracks at 9pm on a Saturday evening, the car park was completely full and we ended up missing the movie trying to find a space. On a positive note, parking is less of an issue in the mornings which is great because The Chelsea and French Twist do a great breakfast. The Barracks is a bustling, modern shopping complex — great for dining and shopping but best to use public transport where possible.

The Barracks is the perfect stop if you’re after any of the following: prescription drugs, groceries, dinner, dessert, alcohol, gifts, or a movie. Basically, it’s its own self-contained, slightly high-end universe, and it’s a pleasure to step into it. I always stop by the Coles at The Barracks because it’s clean, the fruit and veg area is spread out and well lit, you don’t have to pay to use the trolleys, and there is a good range of stock.(There is also free under gound parking(2 hours or less) for Coles customers and cinema goers.) The Palace Barracks is upstairs from the ground level and from here you can peer down at the diners feasting on sushi, burgers, pizza, or ice cream. Some shoppers will be picking up books at Coaldrakes, browsing crockery at Wheel & Barrow, or just resting on one of the stylish benches.(NB: Some of these benches aren’t properly secured to the ground and if someone who weighs different to you sits on the other end, you could have a see-saw effect happening.) The Barracks is incredibly central, and nestled between the city, Milton, and Paddington. Come for the experience, leave because of the rickety seating.

The Barracks has been one of my favourite places to both eat or see a movie recently due to its convenient location and variety of speciality stores. There is always enough parking unless of course there is a game on at Suncorp Stadium and more often that not you can get at least the first two hours free which is unique for a place so close to the city. The cinema has become more of a 18+ scene as it serves alcohol which they allow you to take into the cinema and the films are also more catered to that demographic which I find appealing. The shops here are many and varied, from a Sushi train, to Italian and Tapas restaurants to chocolatiers and ice-cream shops. There is also a sizeable coles supermarket, liquor store and a fantastic French Twist bakery and café which has a great atmosphere. Some of which I have reviewed in detail if you care to check them out!
