We came here for a coffee after flying in to Melbourne, as it was the first coffee shop we came across — Rathdowne Street is awesome! Sweet Source is a cute 50s-inspired café, with excellent coffee and delicious food. We had avocado on toast for a second breakfast(which is acceptable when the first brekkie is at 3.30am!!), and Miss 8 had a massive lamington(well, we were on holidays, so we weren’t going to argue with her). Food arrived very quickly, and service was excellent!

Consistently good coffee, sweets and pies in a peaceful, quaint yet comfortable setting(perhaps better ventilation would be desired) — need I say more? ;)

Always a great coffee and yummy treats. The staff is friendly and on-the-ball. If only they would try to keep parents from not bringing in their MASSIVE prams. The place is just not big enough…

Yes this café is certainly your source for all things sweets. It’s so girly and dainty and delicate. The drawcard here has got to be their moist cupcakes which come in various flavours and pretty little decorations. But don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a quint little bakery, in a quaint little area with Ma and Pa baking treats in the country kitchen out the back. No, these guys are professional pastry chef who trained in New York. So expect to see elaborate, multitier cakes and craftily created pastries on offer. They also offer a range of savoury delight like pies, quiches, Boston beans and so on. But with the smell of freshly baked cookies wafting through the air, who in their right mind would choose savoury over sweet.

Yet another café for nannas and nannas-at-heart! Sweet Source is full of gorgeous cakes, tarts, biscuits and slices, all old fashioned and lovely. The store is an absolute sweet tooth fantasy, with lots of tiered pretty displays in whites and pastels. I had a coffee(of course) and a super cute cupcake. The coffee was okay(not quite strong enough for my liking) but I didn’t care, because the cupcake was soooooo chocolaty and rich. I was won over, so I had a yo yo chaser — also fantastic! It was buttery and just melted in my mouth. Needless to say I went for an extra-long jog in the evening to try to balance out such indulgence. My friend isn’t into sweets(weird) so had a savoury tart instead and said it was pretty good, too. Win!

The quaint and lovely. I feel like I could start categorizing cafés into this subgenre. The types that want you to know they make little sweet treats(both in taste and appearance) that look like they are packed full of love. Sweet Source is one of those types of places. The staff is good with service and I had a great coffee here. You come here to have a treat, although they do have more substantial lunch options for those without a sweet tooth. But treat away we did. The cupcakes are really good. Get onto it. Or if you’d prefer to continue your session at home(so people don’t have to watch you gorge yourself), they have packaged biscuits and jams, ready to go. Delightful!
