There is definetly no shortage of brunch spots in Melbourne… cafes serving flat whites and overpriced avocado toast are everywhere you look! But if I am going to frivolously spend money on a breakfast I can make at home for under $ 3, the Rubber Duck is a great place to do so. I first went here with some friends who recommended it, and we all go the same thing: the cheddar muffins. I think they are basically eggs benedict with bbq sauce and cheese added… Although you probably literally do gain a pound from them(especially paired with a bloody mary) they are great! I have gotten other things on the menu as well but that stands out to me as the best dish. The coffees and drinks are good as well, no complaints. On a weekend morning you may have to wait because the restaurant isn’t that big, but once you get a table the atmosphere is nice and not too noisy and chaotic like other restaurants in the area. I prefer this restaurant for brunch because of the delicious food, decent prices(definitely not cheap but not outrageous either), and relaxed atmosphere that doesn’t make your hangover worse. Give it a try if you are in the Fitzroy area and go off the beaten path of Brunswick or Smith Street and try something new!

Well, any place that carries the name ‘The Rubber Duck Café’ is certainly going to grab my attention, though the only problem was that it closed at 4:00 pm, which meant that it was not possible for me to check it out after work(not that I actually go to cafes after work — they are more of a morning experience, at least for me). Anyway, with the name having caught my attention I decided that I would set aside one morning and come in for some breakfast, which I have to say that I was really glad I did. First of all the staff were nothing short of awesome — very friendly and very helpful, and my pancake stack was full of sugary deliciousness(though what ever you do please don’t tell my dentist). The interior was pretty cool, but then I’ve come to expect that of a place like this. It’s a shame that I live such a distance away because I would come here more often(though I still have that annoying place called work that I have to go to every morning).

Been waiting for this place to open for a while & somehow completely missed the opening two months ago?! Popped in for a T/A coffee today & first impressions were positive. Warm, inviting & cute fitout details. I asked for a long macchiato & was given a long black but the coffee was hot & not worth walking back to complain about. Looking forward to giving the menu a go.

New to the hood, Rubber Duck Café is a most welcome addition indeed. OK, so it’s not up there with Melbourne’s finest cafes, but it can certainly hold its own among the good ones. The fit out is bright and cheery, modern too, with a light display of globes in mason jars over the feature communal table & bright yellow coffee machine. The bright yellow theme continues throughout(the colour of a rubber duck in case you haven’t caught on) with gorgeous ‘sunny’ cups & saucers, & bar stools. The menu has a good assortment of tempting options for both breakfast & lunch — The Big Ducki able to satisfy most any hunger(a dining companion suggested it better of shared) & a kids menu with nothing over $ 9. Coffee is DiBella & best drunk with milk. It’s a yes for me.
