We really wanted to like this place… but I dunno, something was just missing. :(We went here on a Saturday night. I looove katsudon and am on the search for the best katsudon in Sydney, but unfortunately this was just… OK. The pork was dry, it tasted kinda gamey, and the katsudon sauce tasted like egg only. The spicy edamame(ordered as an appetizer) was great, though. I’d be willing to give it another go thinking I’d just ordered the wrong dish, but the general consensus around the table was that the food was rather mediocre(not bad, but not really good, either) and for that it was a bit overpriced. It was a shame, though, because other than that this place ticked the boxes. Nice, friendly place, with really helpful staff. In fact, someone(the owner? the manager?) came out and joked with our table a little bit. Maybe they were having an off night?

Sapporo, well if your a rugby mad Japanese food loving person, this is the place for you!!! But if you’re not a rugby nut there is good news, this is a place you should head to as well!!! Sashimi is fresh and well sized portions, Try the chargrilled spicy endames, you’ll never go back to the original way ever! There’s a good journey of fusion as well, the chef is clearly infatuated with Basil and you must try the seared salon sushi and also try the calamari grilled with basil. Beer, yes of course and you just give the sake list a try as well Would I come again, yes without fail.

This was my first visit to Sapporo and what a gem it is. Perfect 30th birthday dinner. The service is lovely and so polite. The food is tasty, fresh, filling and affordable. We had five in our group and we had the banquet menus as well as some alacarte, including drinks we were out of pocket around $ 55 each.

My family has been coming to Sapporo since I was a teenager(so, like, 10+ years). A stop in here is guaranteed every time I come home to Sydney for a visit. Having lived around the world and eaten at my share of Japanese restaurants, it is by far my favourite and Sapporo is what I compare every restaurant to(given their pricing, which is totally reasonable). So what is it… Shu, the owner of the business, certainly has a big part to do with it. Heck, you can order your whole meal off his recommendation(and that I do often). The sushi selection is always super fresh — do ask the staff’s advice on the selection of the day. There is a solid range of side and main dishes and would highly recommend you try the weekly/monthly special. Shu is a huge rugby and sports fan so he sometimes host viewing parties for big matches e.g. Bledisloe. The entire staff dresses up in jerseys and they serve great sushi with lots, and lots of beer(the Japanese do have those giant draft beer glasses!) All in all — this place is solid as a rock. GO! Insider tip: this shop imports sake and we’ve bought some awesome, unique ones.
