Warehouse cool meets granny chic with a distinctive artisan flavour. This place really does have to be seen to be believed. Mismatched and retro furniture team with band posters to create a very welcoming feel for everyone, including families. The owners of this venue seem to have gone out of their way to make it unique, and they’ve succeeded remarkably well. They really have. As I walked around this unusually big coffee house I had to remind myself to shut my awestruck mouth. Then I came across a piano soloist, simply playing for everyone’s listening pleasure. A DJ comes in on other nights and the eclectic range of music here is kept fresh and funky. Keep your eye on the evolution of Macc Coffee Bar and Events because the owners have big plans for events, exhibitions and other special nights. And I think these guys dream big and create big, if their efforts so far are anything to go by. The menu is great too — Free range eggs, breakfast, and brunch, lunch, dinner and pizzas from a wood fired oven. Me no complain. This place is cool personified minus pretention. But seeing is believing, so come down and see for yourself.

There is no end to good breakfast places in Fremantle, they are literaly everywhere serving the ebst eggs on the best gourmet bread with the freshest orange juice. When it comes to superlative style breakfasts, Macc have a thing going for them too. They have the best banana pancakes, the best selection of bread(at last, if all you want its toast all you haveto have is toast and its only $ 5). Its a great quiet retreat, away from the ever maddening crowd of Market Street. They do great pizza deals on the weekends, including BYO so feel free to put your feet up and get comfortable. A gem all round.

When I first encountered Macc, I had no idea what it was. Tucked away down on Blinco Street in Fremantle next to an antique store, the place looks like some kind of space ship. A very worn down, artsy sort of space ship. Naturally, curiosity got the better of me and I just had to park my bike for a second to see what on earth went on inside the industrial façade. I parked my bike downstairs next to a garden of succulents living inside a water fountain, and spotted a giant pizza oven. Now we’re in business! A trip up the winding stair case confirmed by suspicions — Macc is an über-hip eatery, and perhaps the coolest one in Fremantle. The usual band posters adorn the walls on the outside balcony, a spot perfect for an afternoon cocktail. On first inspection, inside looks fairly small. I ventured further within and discovered Macc isn’t just an eatery, it’s practically a factory of awesomeness. Out the back a young female Mozart was belting out the most beautiful music on a grand piano, making for perfect background music as I sat down in one of their old couches and drank my long black. I wouldn’t say it’s the best in Fremantle, but it certainly was flavoursome made how I like it(strong, not bitter, beautiful crema). The place has this unpretentious kind of artsy feel, with local artists showcasing their wares around the labyrinthian café, advertisements for everything from local bike rides to hula hoop classes, colourful lanterns, mismatched furniture and just enough foliage to keep the place cool. I’m yet to try their breakfast or dinner, but will certainly be back very, very soon to try!
