Marcellina do ok pizza, but I wouldn’t say it’s a great pizza — you will get pretty much the same offering at any Marecllina though, so if you like it you’ll be happy with them all. Personally, I don’t mind their crust, I’m guessing it’s the Marcellina sauce that leaves me uninspired with the pizzas. Where this particular store does excel, for me, was their willingness to help when it’s been needed — not, particularly, their service — again, that’s not been overly spectacular on any occasion I’ve visited — friendly, but most pizza places are — but they’ve done a batch of pizza’s on short notice to cover a corporate event when the place with the order had let us down, and in a repeat fiasco at another work function they managed to get us a stack of pizza for an impromptu lunch. The other thing, for the locals — they’re way WAY better than their nearby competitor, for not much more moolah.

Unlike Brad, I really like Marcellina. Their pizza and pasta are really quite nice. Not exactly a true Italian experience, but good all the same. The service was great. The waiter was funny and friendly, offering suggestions and cracking the odd joke. We got there pretty early so we were the only ones eating, but he didn’t hover around us like some waiters might. The pizza I enjoyed the crust in particular. Quite oily, but lots of flavour and aeration. Really nice food, and though I haven’t been here when it’s busy, I really liked the atmosphere.

I’m going to be a bit controversial here and say I didn’t like it that much. I gave this place a try after it was recommended to me by family, and although it’s a nice restaurant, there are two things that sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. The first was the food I had, and the second was the noise level. I couldn’t have a conversation with the person sitting next to me, mostly because the music was quite loud. I had a lasagne, just because I couldn’t bring myself to fork out over $ 18 for a twelve inch margherita. Seriously, that’s a stupidly high price. There is no way that the ingredients, the labour and the overheads of renting or owning the premises could justify that price. I’ve had beautiful pizzas for well under $ 10 elsewhere. If you’re going to charge that much for that small a pizza, it had better have gold flakes in it. Anyway, the lasagne was a bit on the average side. I wasn’t terribly impressed by it. I did think the service was mostly okay, and it’s a nice and tidy restaurant, but I don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.
