Cacao Green originates from Red Mango in America(not sure where else it is, but yeah) and I was really excited to have froyo from a somewhat familiar place. The yogurt here is super inconsistent all the time, and really overpriced. The only other place for frozen yogurt I’ve tried in Melbourne is the little place in the basement of Melb Central(forgot the name) but I know it’s like a fraction of the price. This place charges you an arm and a leg for inconsistent yogurt and normally unhelpful service, and their seating half the time is stacked up(so you can’t sit in it). I only ever get original tart because I’m boring. but if you can mess up original tart, there is something very very wrong with your establishment. :(

I’m stuck between giving Cacao Green 2 or 3 stars. On its own is a 3, but comparatively it’s a 2. Why is it comparatively so shit? I just think the general layout of Cacao Green is terribly inefficient and to top it off, you are so restricted on choices. What’s wrong with handy-dandy yogurt trains where you builds your own froyo, add your own toppings, and get charged by the weight? Customer Service: The people here are nice, but like I said, inefficient. It shouldn’t have to take nearly 10 minutes to get my froyo sorted — what if there was a longer queue? Food: The froyo tasted yummy and there’s no denying that, but I’m a bit upset that theres a lack of options. I could count the amount of flavours on one hand and none of the flavours are eye-poppingly special either — just generic. Maybe I’m just outrageously spoiled by yogurt trains that have orgasmic flavours like thai tea, red velvet, or honeydew, but even thinking about it objectively… Cacao Green is just comparatively way behind. Tasty yogurt though.

This is one of the more upmarket fro-yo options. The quality is good but I like to have choices and Cocoa Green are limited with only 4 flavour options. I find the extra details like; informed, careful service, a slick interior, and the way the toppings are displayed in fancy glass bowls resting on ice; a bit frivolous — they make the ambience a bit nicer but the service tryinglly slow — just give me my frozen dessert damn it!

Cacao Green opened this week in what is a busy strip of shops catering mostly to a younger uni crowd. Specialising in frozen yoghurt, it was actually their sign alluding to their ‘organic chocolate’ that drew me in… but where was this chocolate?! Who knows, I definitely couldn’t see any. I tried the frozen yoghurt — apparently fat free and made from organic ingredients. I had a mix of the ‘Italian Original’ and ‘Japanese Matcha’ and skipped the toppings altogether. It was up there with some of the nicest frozen yoghurt I’ve tried — good texture and a refreshing zing. Wooden tables and lots of(fake) pot plants make it a pleasant spot to sit for 15 minutes and I don’t doubt I’ll be back as summer really starts to take hold.
