Me and two girlfriends went to afternoon tea on a Monday. The tea rooms are delicately decorated and make you feel at home at grandma’s. I gave this place three stars for lack of variety and quality of the sandwiches and sweets served. Over half the sandwiches served contained curry flavour. Which tasted fine, but I would expect a bit more variety in types of sandwiches. Also the sweets served mostly tasted of plain sugar, and lacked distinct flavours, which left a bit lacking for the sweets section. The highlight of the tea was the tea itself — the chinese green tea was fabulous! And the scones were definitely a highlight. At $ 40 its one of the most affordable high teas I have been too, but I expected a bit more quality and variety.

Cottage Tea Rooms and Simply Cottage Tea Rooms are one hundred percent awesome. A true find in the spectacular Swan Valley. I can’t extend enough gratitude to my sister for introducing me to this girlie, shabby chic and oh-so-cutesy 1950s cottage. This place would make for a great feature in Frankie. Gingham table clothes, retro furnishings and old-style bookcases adorned with carefully crafted teddies make an outing here a joy to remember. The food equals the loveliness of its surrounds and I can highly recommend the chocolate cake. The desserts are all beautiful yet minimal compared to other places where the ‘bigger is better’ American notion has taken over. Double cookies and cream cheesecake with Oreo icing and chocolate and caramel syrup is not scribed on the chalk board here. The beautiful Devonshire teas, simple but luscious home-made chocolate cake and blueberry cheesecake will satisfy even a self-proclaimed sweet-tooth. The delicacies are carried out on beautiful and individual trays — the ornate silver tray is spectacular. Mismatched cups with retro-decals add a slightly Alice in Wonderland feel to the experience. There are two oh-so-cute tea rooms. One overlooks vineyards in the beautiful Swan Valley and the other looks out on to the front of the property(white gazebo included) and across the road. Outdoor seating is an option and looks inviting but the problem lies in the proximity to the busy road directly in front of the tea rooms. Throngs of cars zooming past somewhat detract from the otherwise ambient atmosphere. There are two art and craft rooms where nicknacks of yesteryear abound — well, nicknacks of today, crafted to look like old-fashioned finds from an ornate op-shop. Nevertheless, they are lovely. Old fashioned quilting, beautiful mirrors, photo frames and teddies of all varieties cram into the curious rooms. The dining prices are very reasonable and you can pick up some beautiful art for a bargain price.
