Disappointed is a term that I don’t believe I’m using to describe Feddish this evening, but it’s been a fail this time. Food excellent… Let down by the poor service! So if you don’t mind telling the staff where you want sit, that you’d like water and you haven’t got your grazing plate yet then by all means eat here! Us we aren’t coming back for a while!

Even the riverside location doesn’t save this place. The menu promises a lot but delivers very little. The«Middle Eastern Chicken with Tabouleh» is dry and overcooked, with the worst tabbouleh I’ve ever had — all bulgur wheat and very little parsley or tomato. The«Mediterranean Seafood Salad» is drowned in dressing, Pita comes with bland dips. Salmon is good and Spaghetti is good too. When I sent my chicken back with my feedback, the waitress said«Oh, yes, a few other diners have said that too …» — so that’s what you’ve done about it, is it? … nothing? I won’t be back.

I knew Feddish wouldn’t be my «scene», seeing it from afar. I don’t care much for swish«Modern Australian» type places. There always seems to be an air of pretention and trying to request a vegan meal tends to be met with confusion and derision. Hence, we stopped in at Feddish for a cheeky glass of wine and some chips prior to the Radiohead gig. Staffing was patchy: some were really friendly and happy to see us. The manager seemed a bit like hard work – I kind of felt for her staff; wouldn’t want to break too many glasses… Superb spot, right on the edge of Federation Square, overlooking the Yarra. No doubt this is the main appeal of this place. But, the food – judging based on the bowl of chips only – and wine were good. Perfect stop off on our way to Rod Laver Arena. ++++ VEGANFRIENDLINESS — There were a few vegan wine options and the bowl of chips suited us well. A glance of their menu doesn’t show much in the way of vegan or veganisable vego dishes. Perhaps they’d be able to throw something together. One can always enquire.

With its strange name that messes with your mind, Feddish seems quite at place within Fedetation Square. The menu is a good mix of elegant pub dining, from burgers to paella to ravioli, the twist again suits the name. For lunch I recommend dining outside to see the city at work around you, though with the winds that blow around the square indoors can look more inviting very quickly.

I’ve never eaten here, but as a chillaxed bar with a cruisy, trendy and fun atmosphere I believe Feddish is one of the best at Fed Square. With possibly the best location at the Square, it has views over the Yarra and alfresco dining which also has views back into the city. Because of this I’ve found it attracts a really good crowd, particularly on a Friday night after work. All you’ll find here is pre-party people, happy to be celebrating the end of the week. Travis is right though, the service is poor and just like every other place at Fed Square, its ridiculously overpriced. But I’m really scoring for the ambiance, the good times and the location. It’s one of my fave places to start the night or to enjoy a few drinks on a Friday evening.

Like so many tourist traps Feddish could be so much more with a bit of effort. With a great location overlooking the Yarra river it’s in a prime position for tourists and cbd workers and because it attracts so many people it has no reason to improve. I went here on a Friday evening for drinks and a feed, sitting outside the atmosphere was great, relaxed and chilled — perfect for a Friday celebration for the weekend. Unfortunately the service here is terrible, it smacks of overworked underpaid staff who don’t care one way or the other whether your meal arrives hot or cold or if you’ve finished your drinks and ready for another round. They trudge around and you can almost see them counting down to the end of their shift. The food is really poor too and the drinks expensive. A bottle beer will set you back about $ 10 and my friends said their salad wasn’t fresh and they couldn’t eat it. I had the barramundi and chips which was passable, mostly because I was starving. Don’t go here, there are better options like Transport and Riverland if you are in Fed Square.
