This place was a bit of a hit and miss for me. I had just come back from New Orleans, Lousianna, craving crawfish, and I’d heard about this place. I got excited over the thought that we might have an Australian equivalent. It was also bit of a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a childhood spent catching yabbies with Opera House nets in the dams and irrigation channels around the farms, my mum cooking them up, perfectly seasoned, spiced, battered and deep fried balls of golden deliciousness. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t live up to what I’d hoped. For a start…$ 39 for half a dozen yabbies and a small piece of corn… when I could have got a bucket load for free from my parents in the country, that hurt a bit… but fair enough, I’m paying for a service. Secondly, while the Grab a Yabby Special Sauce in extreme heat level was to die for(they really should have served more rice or a basket of mantou would have been perfect to soak up that amazing sauce), however as tasty as the sauce was, it did nothing to cover up the muddy taste of the yabby meat. To cut the mud flavour, yabbies really need to be boiled with a hell of a lot more salt or even sugar… These tasted like they’ve just been boiled in plain water, then thrown into the hot sauce to drown out the taste, unsuccessfully. Service wise was friendly and attentive, I didn’t have to wait long for my yabbies… just their signature dish was a bit of a let down.

Very tasty seafood. Be prepared to get messy. Though bibs and gloves are provided. Probably not ideal for a first date. Totally recommend their signature grab a yabby sauce.

Went there on a Sunday night. Liked the concept and the food. We initially ordered the fisherman’s basket(which includes mussels, clams, prawns and corn) and the bay bugs, both in extreme spiciness –the second spiciest option available. We were slightly disappointed by the spiciness because to our Asian tastebuds, it tasted just mild. But other than that, the seafood was fresh and the sauce was flavoursome! –go for the special sauce, you’ll never regret it! We weren’t full after the two bags of seafood, so we ordered the soft shell crab sliders, corn cob and fries. Sliders were great! Corns didn’t taste as fresh but we both loved the fries! In the end we paid $ 109 for the meal($ 54.5 each). Satisfied with the service and food. Meant to give it 4 stars but I overheard the next table order the yabbies(which we were informed it was out-of-stock when we first ordered). I don’t understand how that happened so I’ll take one star off.
