This restaurant had a smell of stinking fish in the alley. Although you’d expect a seafood restaurant to smell slightly like fish, it was a gross and off-putting smell. Additionally, my spaghetti(a very easy and plain dish) was grossly undercooked and chewy. When we complained and got a new dish they did comp it off the bill; however, the overall service was horrible beyond that. We only saw or waitress twice, and had to request our additional drinks, waters, and the bill from random bus boys and other waiters that were around. Would definitely never recommend this place.

Walking through Hardware Lane is always difficult with several vendors trying to bid for your business at the same time. Grill Steak Seafood stood out as we got a waft of meaty goodness as we walked past and our original dining choice was booked out. We got the scallops to share and I had the arancini while my partner had the steak. Scallops wrapped in bacon with salad — sounds awesome right? Scallops were a bit overdone but hey who doesn’t like bacon. Arancini — three different types but too dry and not very flavoursome Steak — the highlight of the night, it seemed a bit overdone the first few bites but the middle was nice and pink and my partner ate it up as soon as I turned around so it must have been good! Service was average and I think I would try out a few other Melbourne eateries before heading back here.

This was an average place that has some solid grilled dishes, steak at a decent price, and seafood ranging from fish to shellfish. Nothing special. Nothing over-the-top. Decently executed food. The atmosphere is great. Outdoor and indoor seating. Live band. Heat lamps for outside in the winter. It’s in the hardware laneway which is just a few blocks north of Flinders. I wouldn’t go out of my way to make it here.

As cheesy and cliché as it sounds, Grill Steak Seafood does indeed have some pretty good quality steaks for a reasonable price. It must be noted that this restaurant is on Hardware Lane and hosts aggressively spruiking out the front of restaurants is to be expected. Also to be expect is being offered free drinks and starters to entice you in, and hey who doesn’t like free stuff. Steaks are served simply with just a side of chips or salad and so depending on hunger levels an entrée or dessert is recommended. I cannot comment on the range of pastas and seafood dishes that are also available which seem to garner a lot of negative reviews that are found on other communities. Having been to the restaurant a few times the quality and cooking of the steak has been quite consistent. I recommend the 300g aged eye fillet. Service can be sometimes hit and miss due to the proportion of international wait staff but has been largely positive from my experiences. Controversy and the neighbourhood aside, Grill Steak Seafood is worth visiting for a good reasonably priced steak surrounded by some bustling lane way atmosphere.

Salt n Pepper Squid for entrée was delicious and tender. Salmon and vegetables with béarnaise sauce was also delicious. Salmon was moist and tender. Yum x

Amazing atmosphere. We sat outside and they had live music. The service was top notch and the food was delicious. Definitely will be dining there again.

Plus sides: 2 bottles of free wine — red and white. Also free entrees — mediocre garlic bread and bruschetta. Not great. Negatives: Food came out in about 5 minutes(there were five of us) — I question the freshness of the food and quality. The food was not hot… Almost cold. Was not impressed with any of the meals(duck, pork belly, and sambra) Will definitely not return here when there are many other options available.

Small, tight table within an inch of another couple. This didn’t bother to much however it was the constant upsell of the waiters. Do you want bread with that? You better get bread. How about we finish that with some desert? The food was nice and satisfying, however came out about 5 minutes after we ordered which I question. Won’t return in a hurry with what other axing restaurants Melbourne has to offer.

At first the atmosphere of the place is very cosy which comes with fast and friendly table service, they also stand out for not being too chatty like the rest of the restaurants in the same lane. About the food, well the chicken salad was to die for. There is spice on the chicken that I found interesting and unique, the chicken didn’t stink though which I will highly appreciate in Australia, it also came as a whole picture with the other veggies that were in the plate. The salmon salad I must say was fresh fresh fresh salmon, ah how I love when that happens! The shocker was some of the ingredients that were mention in the menu wasn’t there!!! I don’t know what happened honestly, did the chef forgot or they run our of it, I wonder? So I’ll give you dolls a 3 stars. Oh wait we had coffee too, so up to 4 stars because they were bitter and balanced quite nicely with milk, leaving your tongue slightly dry as a teas after every sip … I will differently come back again to see your friendly faces and have a main dish for the sake of discovery xo

I went here for dinner after reading the reviews on-line and my only regret is that I didn’t eat here sooner during my visit! The food was excellent as you can see by the pictures I posted. The scallop appetizer was very large and prepared well and even the greek salad was tasty. My favorite was my main course of Kangaroo. It was grilled medium rare and seasoned very well and paired with a sauce and green beans. I was most impressed by how well each dish was seasoned, but not salty or over seasoned. Many of the restaurants I had been to earlier in the week grilled a hunk of meat and put it on your plate and it really had no taste. Had I been in town another night I would have eaten here again and ordered the same thing! If you want to eat kangaroo do yourself a favor and try it here. You will enjoy your meal very much!

When you name your restaurant this, there’s little hope isn’t there? Throw in a cheesy man who literally accosts you to enter(how I ended up here), a television displaying someone having their hair removed and food that makes you bloated but in no way full… You are on to a winner.

After heading up Hardware Lane we were keen to check out a few menu’s and were subjected to the sales pitch of the first restaurant in the lane — ‘Pop’, which looked good, but we figured we should have a bit of a look at the others first before we decide where to eat. The next restaurant along is GrillSteakSeafood, and upon consulting the menu we were subjected to another sales pitch. We were given free entrees and a bottle of wine which sealed the deal here. Starters were the mussels and salt and pepper squid to start, waiter service terse but efficient. Mains included lamb shanks, and chicken and mushroom risotto. This was a late meal on a Monday night(arrived around 2130), pop next door seems good too with the owner out front greeting guests. Make sure you barter around these parts.

From entering this restaurant you feel more pushed than welcomed. Garlic bread arrived– without garlic. Ordered the vegetarian lasagne for main which was completely cold in the middle. I sent back the meal, and the woman at the table next to me soon experienced the same problem. I waited and it seemed they had forgotten about me — the woman at the table next to me received her replacement, meanwhile my friend had finished her main and I was still waiting to receive mine. Staff were arrogant and rude to passers by. I was still charged full price — no discount or complimentary side offered. Very overpriced for what it was. Overall a disappointing experience and I couldn’t wait to get out of there!
