These may be the only cinema’s left in the CBD? Tucked away up the escalators, close plenty of food stores.
Hoyts lets you buy your tickets online which is a lot faster, use the vending machines to collect your tickets and head on up more escalators to see your movie.

Been going here for 3 years and at one stage they knew my name. Movies are pretty standard $ 20 for an adult, popcorn and beverage around the $ 12 mark from memory. The customer service is always great and i havent seen a bad movie yet.

Like Superman, which I saw at Hoyts Melbourne Central a while back, anyone who goes to this cinema at night is heroic.
The movie in cinema seven was made unnecessarily loud to try and block out the nightclub noise. The air conditioning was too cold. However, many of the customers wouldn’t have noticed, let alone seen the movie, as they were busy tweeting or chatting to their friends — who weren’t there — on their smartphones.
At night time this is a cinema of last resort, just before you go to one of the «other» cinemas a few blocks further along Swanston St.
Fine by day, a tragedy by night. Go to one of the many other fine cinemas I won’t mention here where you can enjoy watching a movie.
More recently I returned, against my better judgment, at night only to find the cinema dirty on arrival and poorly cleaned. I contacted the cinema via its FB page and am still waiting for a reply.

Pre film: first time at this cinema and I’m very impressed. This review is for cinema 11 which is massive.
The faux leather seats are SO comfortable, and seats are high so that tall people sitting in front of you don’t obstruct your viewing pleasure. Fantastic! There’s plenty of leg room and wide arm rests.
I’ve reduced the number of stars with a post film review: my complaint is with the air con. It was too high, I was glad that I had a scarf on. I could see other patrons like myself with their coats or jackets on top like a blanket. Not really the way you want to sit through a film unless you actually are at home under a blanket!

.20 $ au dollars for entry which equates to 10£ gbp so not a bad price… Oh my America and now found Australia really know how to cater for you comfort the seats are so wide and comfy and can lean back in them and still plenty of people are able to fill auditorium, come on UK cinemas catch up stop going for cram em’ in profit! …its located in a mall with bars and good eateries. So yep all good for me. One star ofd for the crazy queuing system that was there on our visit !

Great location, within Melbourne Central, easily accessible by public transport and plenty of parking. Get there a bit early and grab a bit to eat or a drink in any of the close by restaurants or browse the shops before or after your movie. Choices are a plenty.
Staff have personality here.
I’ve always found these cinemas relatively clean and everything seems to work efficiently.
Of course the candy bar is over priced but really it’s the movies so aren’t they all.
I like these cinema, I’ll be back.

As far as cinemas in Australia go, it’s one of the better ones.
As far as cinemas worldwide go, it (like the rest of Australia) is expensive at around $ 19 a ticket for just a regular movie.
I had vouchers that were able to be used anytime except after 5pm on Saturdays so went along on a Saturday avo. There was quite a bit of a line to buy tickets at the machines and the counter but the counter line moved pretty quickly.
Cinema 5 was around a 150 seater, and it has plenty of legroom & width.
Handy place in Melbourne Central, and has parking you can get validated if you wanted to drive.
A couple of annoying things — candy bar doesn’t have prices up, and it’s bloody expensive! ($ 32 ish for large frozen coke & chocolate combo with what didn’t seem to be a very large popcorn).
Ads went for 15 minutes, then there was 2 reviews, then more ads before the movie finally started. We’d finished our popcorn before the film commenced!
Fun Fact — a staff member comes in with a food cart and waits near the entrance selling more drinks /​snacks. Neat idea! (Still hate to see the price though)

Hoyts has a lot of pros and cons.
PRO: Comfort. Big cinemas, good screens, decent seats, loads of session times.
PRO: Beanbag cinema.
I love watching movies sunken into the big comfy double beanbag. I was skeptical at first about the cleanliness of public beanbags, but each visit I’ve found them to be clean and comfortable for two. You have to book it as a pair seat so my advice is that you want to be pretty cosy with the person you’re booking them… if you wouldn’t share a bed with your movie buddy, don’t take them to beanbag cinema. But if you’re a smug couple, beanbag cinema is where it’s at.
PRO: Not located at Crown Casino. Melbourne Central might be busy, but seeing movies at Village makes me question humanity.
CON: Price. But that is just cinemas everywhere. I feel sorry for families that have to buy multiple tickets. And the industry wonder why piracy thrives in this country.
CON: The aircon doesn’t cope with Melbourne’s 40+ heatwaves. I have tried on a couple of occasions to escape the heat by coming here and then been bitterly disappointed that there is no sweet relief here and that the air con is far more effective in winter. Dammit. My attempt to pay $ 20 just to cool down backfired when I had to sit through the Wizard of Oz remake in a temperate 25+ degrees. Never again.

I think this movie experience was made even better by receiving complimentary tickets to see Doll and Em as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival.
It was a packed cinema but we were able to get good seats. The seats were plush, leather type material and I don’t know what else I can say than I can’t really fault anything!
Hoyts Melbourne Central is at such a prime area and the best place to meet up and see movies!

The convenience of this theatre is fantastic, in the middle of the city allows you to escape to endless opportunities after you have seen your movie.
The seats are great and the screens are huge, You pay the price though to get to them. Hoyts are still paying that game at the candy counter where no prices are displayed, except for a few fleeting moments on the advertising screen at the register.
It attracts the crowds, so it might be something I am missing.
So Meh.

Well It was my first movie experience at Hoyts Melbourne central. I have to say that from the outside I expected a rather run down cinema and for us all to be squashed in together. I was wrong, the movie was shown in Cinema 11 which is the extreme screen room and it was amazing. seats comfortable and screen amazingly huge. Of particular benefit was the fact there were toilets directly outside the cinema so if you need to duck out for a second you are not missing half of the movie. Was lovely to see a movie then walk out and wander around the city, it will be a treat I will partake in again especially in Melbourne’s Autumn. I also would recommend a mint chip choctop if you have a sweet tooth:)

Per capita, Australians see more movies in the cinema than any other country in the world (after Iceland). This factoid seems fairly improbable when you consider that your garden variety mall superplex like Hoyts charges NINETEEN DOLLARS for a standard movie. Holy moly. It’s for this reason that I rarely make it to the giant chain theaters, unless it’s a «cheap» Mon/​Tues.
Sunday arvo found me at the Hoyts only because I was battling a deep seated case of the borings at home. (Winter will do that to you). What I found were masses of people, high prices, and noisy teenagers cackling and hollering throughout the film. Bah. Beam over to the Nova where all the quiet oldsters hang out.
Another gripe: It was 9 degrees outside and probably about the same inside. I’m not exaggerating… it was freezing in there and I noticed many people huddling under their winter coats.
On the plus side, the seats are pretty comfy and the location is convenient.

Just another one of your average Joe movie theatre with a location in the heart of everything CBD. Other than that the movie tickets are expensive compared to other movie theatres I have been to. It also comes with a monopoly on popcorns, soft drinks, ice creams and a few specials some times which is extremely overpriced.
The movies on show are mainly Hollywood with a few here and there sometimes Bollywood movies.

Feel free to arrive half an hour after the advertised movie start time so you don’t have to sit through the too-​long preshow program. I don’t pay to watch advertising, I want to watch previews and a movie.

Hoyts Melbourne Central is conveniently located — Grill’d and the Groove Train are next door and Nandos is right across. For those after pre-​movie drinks, the Lion’s hotel or Cho Gao bar won’t dissapoint + you’ve got the train station on the lower ground and plenty of parking as well. Tickets are pricey for sure and, now that all movie makers are jumping on the 3D train at the first chance they get, you’ll really feel a sting when buying a ticket. But I love going to the movies — add dinner to the equation and this is as close as it gets being a perfect night out for me so…
Credit to them though for having improved their Extreme theatres with nicer leather seats. With their rewards club, if you go to the movies fairly often, you’ll be able to redeem your points into a free choc top or even a free ticket although it’ll take you a whole lot longer to accumulate enough points for the latter!

Ever since I moved to Melbourne from California, there’s something that will ALWAYS bother me about movie theatres down under.
Why is seeing a film so fucking expensive? For 3D often times it’s like 27 dollars. That’s a steak! And I’d rather eat a steak than watch a movie.
Realistically, every single cinema in Melbourne is 1 star in my book for being overpriced to holy hell. However, I have to be unbiased here, and there IS one main reason why this particular Hoyts makes it to 3 stars despite me wanting to minimise my visits here as much as possible.
Location.
It’s located right inside Melbourne Central itself, which makes for all the convenience in the world.
~ Train station.
~ Bars, such as Cho Gao, nearby.
~ It’s in the middle of the city, so if you aren’t into Melbourne Central mall food (I know I’m not), there’s plenty of delicious spots nearby.
You really can’t find a location for a movie theater better than that. So whenever my friends drag me to another film, I’m willing to go only if its Hoyts @ Melbourne Central. Otherwise, I’d rather get a steak.

Watching a movie at Hoyt’s Cinema Melbourne Central is not as painful as it used to be. There are a few things that they offer which makes the experience more appealing.
1) Online purchasing of tickets & seat selection.
3) Validated Parking (Up to 3hrs.)
4) A bean bag cinema
5) Self serve check in stands which can also be used to purchase tickets to avoid queues.

Hoyts is the first Cinema that I went to when I had the realisation that it costs you a cool twenty to see a movie these days and almost $ 30 if you want to see something in 3D. It’s not their fault, because this is what every cinema charges — but they just left that negative memory in my head.
My initial prejudice aside, there is nothing special about Hoyts in the Melbourne Central Shopping Mall. They show all of the major movies that you would expect, they show 3D movies and they charge the same price as every other cinema.
The only differences are that this cinema is four stories above Melbourne Central Train Station, and is thus very easy to get to if you are catching the train into the city. And that if you go get a burger at Grill’d next door then you can get a movie ticket for $ 10. Nuff said — I’m off to get a burger.

Located inside the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre, Hoyts Cinema is one of many commercial cinemas in the CBD.
As you would imagine, the crowd at this cinema is a lot younger than you would expect to find at more arthouse cinemas such as Nova. The screens are also much bigger and the range of movies on display are very much just based on ratings and hollywoodesque in style.
I prefer going to Cinema Nova to watch movies than here (they show them as well and they have a licensed bar). If there was a massive blockbuster out that demanded a large screen, then I’d probably head to IMax and indulge in the most immersive movie going experience.
Its location is a huge draw for Hoyts. If in the CBD and you want to watch a movie, then this is probably where you’ll end up.
