Have been here a few times now and never been disappointed. Tasty breakfasts served until 1pm on Sundays with an extensive menu ranging from Breakfast Quesadila to Potato Cakes to the usual«big breakkie». They used to do great Canadian Pancakes but they weren’t on the menu during our last visit. The fresh juices are delicious and they have a great range of baked treats on display at the counter — quite a few gluten free options. When the weather is a bit warmer it’s nice to sit out the back in the garden but the homely feel to the main dining area is inviting as well. Staff always really friendly and welcoming. Great find.

I was in the area around lunch time on Saturday. Usually I wouldn’t stray from New Norcia Bakery, but since I had been carb-loading the past few days in Adelaide I thought I would try Cultural Tastes out and see if I could get a salad. It’s a cosy spot with a great brunch menu and a few delicious baked goods on the counter. They also have quite a good gluten free selection. The salads on display didn’t look very appealing but I ordered a mix of 3; rice, lentil and chickpea. The rice salad was by far the best with slices of pear throughout. I felt great after my healthy lunch. This place isn’t just a café they host a range of cooking classes too!

I thought this was just a shop, but it’s not, there’s a café inside too! And this café’s menu offers more than it’s appereance. There are gourmet salads(tasty ones at that), that take cue from different«cultural tastes» — yesterday they had a Mediterranean vegetable, a «Bali salad» and a Mexican bean one going — and other meals that consider Vegetarians and the gluten intolerant. They’ve even considered little ones and offer a kids brunch menu. You’ll Also find a great selction of books on international cooking and they also take cooking classes. The classes centre on different regions week to week — Malaysian, Spanish, Middle Eastern, French and Southern Italian — to name a few. The classes are part demonstration but involve hands-on work too!

This isn’t just a bookstore specialising in cookbooks. It’s far more than that. It’s a café, too, but decked out like you’re at your Nan’s home, all rustic in its furnishings and cosy in its ambience. Heck, there’s even a garden where you can go mosey on to, to read one of their many culinary titles while sipping on tea. I’ve not tried any food from the kitchen here yet as I was just passing through and had a hundred things on that day, but since Cultural Tastes specialises in literature on the subject of great food, I’m guessing anything on the menu — from savouries to sweets — will be well worth sampling.

Cultural Tastes is another hybrid shop/café that has popped up in Mt Hawthorn in recent times. There are only a few wooden table and chairs in the front part of the shop, that are not covered in books and cooking products. This is not a place to go with a big group. But there is a small hidden garden out the back that is great to sit in on a summer’s day, savouring your delicious coffee and food. The service is top notch, with friendly and quick staff. The real star of this place is the kitchen store and cooking classes. They have a huge range of the best cooking books from around the world. As well as all the normal kitchen gadgets and tools. I haven’t been to one of their cooking classes yet, but I have heard awesome things and will be booking one in soon.

There’s a garden! That alone makes this place a winner for me! Located behind the café come culinary-heaven-shop, the small garden is just what one needs on a cool and breezy day! The coffee is great, food looks good, and there’s a wide variety of books and other culinary-related artefacts. I actually purchased a Bill Bryson book there after a long contemplation in front of the bookshelf! Nigella Lawson, I’ll come back for«Express» next time I’m in the neighbourhood…

This newly opened café and shop is a celebration of food in all its forms. The shop consists mainly of an extensive and diverse collection of cookery books, covering cuisines from all corners of the world, as well as food-related gifts(novelty oven gloves etc). It really is a great selection, so if you’re looking to extend your gastronomic horizons, or searching for a gift for a food lover, look no further. But the best part is the lovely garden café, where you can enjoy a coffee or have a tasty bite to eat. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and they even run cookery classes too. A food lover’s paradise.
