While there were not many people at the markets this day, suitably rugged up, they appeared mostly interested to take warm meals from the stands. I was attracted to the area on hearing the 70s music coming from DJ Adam’s stall(on the left) and his ‘LPs’(vinyl) on a similarly aged record player.

Wild at Hart is a great new initiative of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and has bought a much needed buzz to the port. There are small artisan food producers mixed with fresh foods and coffee vendors(some staffed by award winning baristas who normally ply their trade at city cafes during the week.) It is a family friendly atmosphere, where dogs are also welcome. The playground is great for kids and on a nice day, you can see dolphins leaping out of the Port. The only thing that is needed is perhaps a more careful curation of the vendors — some don’t seem to fit with the vibe of the market. There is also a singer(who must be someone’s daughter — there’s no other way she got the gig!) muting her would add to the ambience significantly!

From Bulgarian Borscht and organic oranges to Caribbean coconut and homemade honey — this small but delightful market seems to want to cater for all natural palates. Situated on the banks of the Port River in the shadows of the huge Hart mill, this cliquey little venue is sure to delight those who don’t mind paying that bit extra for fresh produce free from man’s chemicals. There was a wonderful warm atmosphere despite the sub — arctic temperature, and many of the patrons seem to know each other; especially the doggy people! If anything, this is the only thing that was off-putting. I’m definitely not a dog person and the constant yapping of those little yuppy ‘pretend dogs’ made me leave a little earlier than I should have perhaps. But nevertheless, I shall return(maybe donning some earmuffs for both dogs and temperature!) as I’m sure that once word has spread about this delightful corner of the Port, it’s popularity will become renowned throughout our beautiful Radelaide.

Cannot think of a better thing to do on a sunny sunday morning than head out to Wild at Hart. Super dooper child and pet friendly. I had to stop myself from patting all of the doggies who had come along with their owners. Great coffee. Lots of breakfast & lunch options if you are heading down for food. Unique organic options and fresh produce. It seems a new stall opens every week. The council have put a lot of money towards making this a unique and viable little spot with toilet facilities, a sparkly new playground and lots of free parking. Wild at Hart also had organised a small circus tent with a child friendly show playing the sunday I was there. It really is a gorgeous little part of Adelaide on the waterfront and I’m so glad that it’s getting the attention and praise it deserves.

I was so excited when I heard that a farmer’s market will be opening down my side of town. This little market has only been open a month and so it’s not huge, but it has some pretty fantastic little stalls available. It’s an outdoor market and due to some new re-development next to the Hart Mill, there is a fantastic playground for the kids and a lovely seating area. The market starts at 9am to 1pm and with food stalls, I highly recommend coming for a delicious breakfast. They have pop-up café serving fairtrade Campos coffee, there are also many food stalls with the emphasis on local. From Bakerhus pies and sweet pastries, raw bliss balls and of course a stall from the famous Port Adelaidean café, Red Lime Shack, who sell delicious smoothies and vegetarian delights. Stick around and listen to the buskers, then wander around and pick up some organic fruit and vegetables, grab a freshly pressed organic apple juice, perhaps purchase some seedlings to grow your own herbs and vegetables. Then back to one of the other food stalls for an early lunch! You can take the girl out of Port Adelaide, but you can’t take Port Adelaide out of the girl! I am proud of the area and proud of how its evolving. I love the alternative funky vibe and how passionate our local community and businesses are ensuring a bright future for the area and supporting locals. Here is a list of the stalls that are currently at the markets. Fingers crossed the list gets bigger soon!
