Only been fine dining a few times but was highly recommended here for their food and innovative style. This place is the«what the heck is that but this is amazing» kind of food. 140 a head for a 7 course dego but if your celebrating, do it in style. 5 stars for food because you aint finding any of this at any other restaurant Service is seriously spectacular

It was my 3rd visit to Gastro Park. I would like to say this restaurant is a special experience. I booked for a bride to be ladies dinner for 4 everything was perfect . My new American daughter in law and her mother were so impressed. The art form food presentation is unique to this place congratulations to the chef. The food quality staff attention is top standard I’ll be back.

Amazing culinary journey. The chef personally presented every email and the sommelier was wonderful as well. I added on the wine pairings to the ten course dinner. The wine pours were generous. Everyone was super. Incredible meal, I would do it again and again

Birthday dinner for me, with my wife, who booked it as it is one of her friends favourites, but it was for me! Atmosphere relaxed, more relaxed than quality dining in Europe or America, which is all I can speak for. From the snacks(starters), to the entrees and particularly the main of duck and shiitake mushrooms with smoked mash(not a crass sales pitch, but an amazing assault on the senses, way better than«Paris Mash») this was a menu full of flavour and surprises, what you would expect from and hope for from French sauces, but don’t often get. After all these«goings on» all I can say is yum!

I’ve had the pleasure of dining here a few times now, and every time it’s been been amazing! The restaurant is on a back street of Potts Point/King’s Cross. The place is minimalistic with touches of earthiness that is reflected in the food. The food. Wow. The minimal descriptions entice you and once it hits the table it is not what you expected. With your first bite you’ll be hooked. Each dish is popping with flavour and the textures will surprise you. Favourites are the goat’s curd and wild tartlets, kangaroo carpaccio, and the gnocchi with mushroom consommé. Most people would call this place a «destination» restaurant, but the journey the chef takes you on makes this place worth visiting more often.

Gastro Park is not at all typical of the rest of the restaurants I’ve around the Potts Point hood. They advertise it as a «Playground of Gastronomy» and to a certain degree it is that. All of the various dishes and menu items are either unique in their own right or otherwise uniquely and innovative in their preparation. But don’t plan you the base of you meal out in advance or before you get there as the menu and items offered changed frequently. They also have a good wine selection and since they know their wines best, I would suggest that it might be best to ask them to select and pair one their wines with your meal. When I was there last I had a delicious foie gras which I believe to have been done with a rhubarb, a plum or maybe cherry, and toasted grains. Then also rib based meat dish, totally unique in flavor, delicious in taste and perfect in texture. On my visit here, I was somewhat unaware that idea behind dining here is to have a meal consisting of 7 or more courses, which one should plan upon doing since if you order any of the items individually, the portions are so small, even somewhat pathetically so, that even after eating you may find yourself starving. Gastro Park is pricey(plan on spending 400AU$ per meal or more… probably a lot more if you’re really hungry) but if you’re interest in a true culinary experience, it’s worth it and that basically is what the place is all about.

First of all — no surcharge on credit cards. Anyone who does this is just bloody smart. Second of all, getting greeted on arrival is essential, but being offered drinks orders straight up, sitting at the bar and having access to the menus is just sublime. Makes me feel like I am in NYC. Well, in a good restaurant in NYC anyway. So, if you’ve heard of Heston Blumenthal, the way this place serves food has that kind of bend to it. Its stunningly delicious, enough that I’ve been back twice. It changes menu occasionally, so you probably want to get there quickly for the pork textures. Yes, you read right. Pork. Textures. So. Good. Servings are not huge, up front. But the thing is, they keep on bringing out these little dishes, like amuse bouche, that just keep on stacking up in your belly, and they are well presented, its almost a shame to eat them. Don’t worry, the shame doesn’t last long. Go here. Now.

Get a window seat! Except on a cold night, which sadly it was when we went. Cold and rainy, and we were freezing cold most of the night, despite the waiter twice saying he had turned up the heat. But, the menu. Very avante-garde of course, with exotic combinations and many interesting touches. For an entrée, she had the beef short rib crostini creation, which comes out looking like a mini bullrush with grated cheese hanging from it — very novel. Flavoursome apparently but a bit weird in the mouth. I had cauliflower textures with duck confit, which was various parts of the cauliflower presented in varied methods — a piece of stalk braised, some leaves steamed, thin slices crisped like potato crisps, arranged over some morsels of duck. Very tasty and interesting. Next! We selected the crispy scaled barramundi for her(signature dish it seems) and the toothfish for me, accompanied by fried cauliflower with almonds. The barramundi was interesting, served with many squid inky things — some small potato cakes with ink, a crisp of calamari and tapioca, think like large black prawn cracker with white spots, some calamari and other bits — she liked it, and the crispy scales were different. The toothfish is like a piece of sea pork belly — fatty and juicy, but tastes like fish ?!? with a small square of crispy skin, a scallop and a artfully arranged plate of green stuff — both vege and emulsion. It was also interesting — bit too many mixed weeds on the plate in terms of nasturtiums etc, but flavoursome. The cauliflower was heavy with fat or butter, and the almonds also very much in a sea of butter — but also tasty. We did observe some interesting dishes coming out, and it transpires there is a Game of Thrones menu — we were not informed or we may have tried it, but it had some funky looking dishes, including a small bonfire on the table that has fish roasting on it, and what looked to be a small nest of branches with long items revealed to be an exotic cracker perched in them. I wracked my brains for the tie in to the TV series or the book, but couldn’t get it for the life of me. Unfortunately the cold temperatures ruined the night for us, and the slightly patchy service, which cut the night short somewhat as we just had to get out of Dodge and find somewhere warm.

Went for the Game of Thrones degustation. Yep, nerdy. The food was, quite simply, incredible. Barramundi with crispy scales was to die for, deep fried«dragon bone marrow» was heaven. The wines were lovely, generally on the sweet side, but we didn’t think that they were particularly well matched to the food. For $ 165 a head with wine, I expect a certain level of service. It was shocking. We waited for nearly 10 minutes for someone to notice we had arrived. Hey you cleaning the glassware behind the bar right in front of me, how about a smile and a «hello»? How about an explanation of the menu? How about more than a drop-and-run with the food? How about knowing your menu when we ask what things are or how many wines come with it? The exception was the sommelier, he was great. All in all a good experience. But, despite the great food, we won’t be back.

Went here for the game of thrones feast a couple of weeks ago — what an experience! The food was themed after the season that finished last year and launched to coincide with the new season. I was expecting slabs of meat with arrows etc as I had seen from last years photos but to my surprise this was an extremely refined blind degustation with awesomely matched wines — I probably shouldn’t have driven but the waiter convinced me I’d be under the limit. Although we will never know if he was correct I am grateful to him for his insistence. Perhaps the only fault in the themed meal was the lack of theme in the setting — apart from one fur over coat and the repeated theme song resonating through the building. But how far can you really go with a niche theme in a high end restaurant?

The location was great. Some of the food was great, but some of it was average. A Nitro desert that was just hard frozen water. The service was poor. Wine waiter who didn’t know his wine menu. The champaign was serviced warm and had to be returned and food orders that were forgotten.

Innovative yes, exceptional or special, no. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was certainly let down. My fish was dry and cold. The service was slow and pretentious. Overall, the operations seemed very amateur-ish. Give it a try, but it’s at your own peril.

Definitely my current favourite restaurant in Sydney. Staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. The food was sensational. Every dish we had on the table was exceptional, tasted fantastic and was beautifully presented, all with a slight heston-ish«gastro» twist without going overboard. I had the liquid gnocchi, snapper and the nitro pavlova. Simple clean décor, with a Great vibe in the place, classy but casual and not stuck up. Its Also great for a cocktail — pre drink. Highly recommended get there immediately!

Bottom line: If you have one restaurant to visit in Sydney, this is the type of place you go to. It’s fighting for my #1 favorite restaurant in Sydney. This new restaurant that has really taken the Sydney restaurant scene by storm and for good reason. They’re menu is inspired by what’s fresh at the market and therefore changes daily(according to their website – I’ve only been once). But it’s the innovative«gastro» style that really sets them apart from the likes of Porteno, Universal, and Ms. G’s. They make great cocktails too. They have a tiny little bar so go ahead and show up early for a quick chat with the bartenders. I forget the exact bill but I’d say we got out of there for about $ 550 for 3 people. Steep price but a one-of-a-kind dining experience. I will definitely be going back.

Our Sydney supper club of six had a 9pm booking for Gastropark. As is the rule with our supper club — the restaurant must be something that is or has been heard to be a cut above the rest as well as new to most of the members. We weren’t sure what to expect as I booked this restaurant after hearing they have a Game of Thrones themed menu and specialised in playing with food. Although the Game of Thrones themed degustation sounded exciting -(I’ll save that for my boyfriend’s birthday perhaps) the ladies and I as is customary in our supper club selected a variety of dishes to be shared and sampled. After carefully considering the wine list(Chianti) we decided to try a random sample of snacks, entrees(2) and mains(2) in order to save ourselves for the cheese plate and dessert. General Comments — The presentation of all courses were either black slate or stoneware(yes that’s right heated stone) and was in keeping with the restaurants slightly spartan décor. The service was attentive and prompt with dutch accented jokes to boot. The snacks. Bread from Sonoma bakery and a schmear of the smoothest butter came quickly before the snacks of putanesca wafer, seared oysters and venison snacks. The seared oysters and venison were the hit from the snack selection and the putanesca wafer(I’m guessing shaved grano padano toasted with drops of a reduced putanesca sauce) were playful and a preview of what was to come. The entrée Yes I said we ordered several but really this is where things get a bit fuzzy. The butternut gnocchi with mushroom consommé was nothing short of inspiration. Not only was it a wonder to behold(small fishbowl of consome with floating gnocchis) crowned with a ring of toasted bread. I really wanted to shout bravo at this point. Definitely the entrée to try at Gastropark and well worth the $ 26 price tag. The mains At this point I was too focused on the john dory with a crispy skin which should be called john dory crackling with a salt cod, fennel, white anchovy topped with lightly battered and fried piquillo peppers to pay attention to what the carnivores were doing at the other end of the table. Cheese plate We had a good slice of the Saint Aguir blue which was displayed in the center table under a cloche and calling to me all night. It was service with lavosh, grapes and apples. The girls split the chocolate, honeycomb dessert(honeycomb was divine) and all went down a treat. Next time I will try the degustation menu as this sampling of Gastropark has left me craving mushroom consommé and gnocchi(can I spherify at home?) and the best john dory I’ve had ever.

Fabulous food. Each dish was delicious, imaginative and visually stunning. My favourites were the snapper and the special truffle dish with beef. We had the nitro pavlova and chocolate honeycomb mandarin sphere for dessert and both were exceptionally good. I’d come here again in a heartbeat.
