Dake’s Takeaway & Grocery

This is a charming convenience store on Pitt St in Redfern. No fluorescent lighting or hideous 7 – 11 vibe! Instead, it’s unexpectedly large inside (you could easily swing a cat in here. A large cat, in fact). And it has these little tables with plastic red & white table cloths, in case you want to grab a bacon & egg roll and eat-​in. I have only once seen people actually doing this, but it’s nice to know this is an option.
I tend to just come here to buy milk or the newspaper. Yes, it costs 3 times the price of milk at Woolies, but I’m willing to avoid buying milk from corporate bully supermarkets, and it’s so close to home, so I don’t entirely mind. Glad to support Dake’s.
