I admit when I first saw that Little Oriental was advertised as a Chinese, Thai, AND Indian place I was highly skeptical. I mean talk about jack of all trades master of none right? However, I was proven wrong… sorta. I don’t think that Little Oriental delivers much on authenticity if that’s what you’re after — but their chefs KNOW how to cook, regardless of whether or not it’s the real deal. NOTES: ~ This order is based on delivery ONLY. ~ Minimum delivery order: $ 30. ~ Order $ 40 or more and get a free Schweppes soft drink. Food: One thing that I must highlight about this place is that it’s AMAZINGLY cheap. I’m talking around 10 dollars for a main. Some curries can go up to around 14 or 15 dollars, but if you compare it to general restaurant prices in Melbourne you have to give Little Oriental credit for having more than affordable prices. ~ Japanese Potato Cake(2 pcs) — $ 5 I cannot stress how heavenly these potato cakes were, especially lightly coated in the mayonnaise they give you. The potato was very soft and there were bits of veg and meat inside that added just the perfect amount of flavour. I finished these upset that I didn’t order more. ~ Dumpling(6 pcs) — $ 5 These dumplings were alright, but don’t expect much out of them. They were just barely satisfying, but Little Oriental isn’t one of those restaurants that specialise in them either. ~ BBQ Pork & Kimchi Fried Rice — $ 10.90 Who doesn’t love BBQ Pork? Who doesn’t love Kimchi? Who doesn’t love fried rice? My meal was delicious with just a hint of spiciness from the kimchi. I really enjoyed it. I also ordered Pad Thai($ 7.90) and Char Kway Teow($ 8.90) for my partner and our friend. Both of them quite enjoyed their meal — although I have to note that the Pad Thai didn’t quite taste like Pad Thai at all — it had different flavours to it but it was still a decent dish. — My recommendations of what you NEED to order is the Japanese Potato Cake and BBQ Pork & Kimchi Fried Rice. If you’re disappointed I will eat my hat.
