Great service and a really interesting menu. I was amazed at the types of breakfast options available. While I’m more keen on watching a Wallaby than on eating one, there are plenty of non natives to choose from. Coffee is great and the cake /morning tea treat selection will bring me back soon.

The area is full of cafes offering breakfasts and lunches from fresh local ingredients, served on vintage plates and rough wooden table, with an overall friendly, easy going feel about them. This one is in my opinion the best of them. Nice staff, great coffee, wonderful poached eggs on toast. I’ll come back in a heartbeat, perhaps for lunch since I keep staring at all the amazing-looking salads and tarts on display.

Great service, great food. If I was in Richmond more, I’d definitely be at Gypsey and Musquito more.

Yup, this place lived up to the hype that our AirBnB host filled it with, it was everything she said it would be and then some! We rocked up here after a little jog through the city and some of the farmers markets in the area on a Saturday, and had no trouble grabbing a seat at one of the communal tables at the back, of course, that was after we rolled by the display case with all the amazing pastries and cakes and savory delights! You’ll be hating the fact that you can’t order one of each of everything, because they all look amazing. As others have said, this place is a refreshing change from a lot of places doing fusion, and ethnic food, etc. It’s doing full on Australian fare, and doing it well. They had all kinds of things we haven’t seen in many places, but my favorite was the Emu sausage, sooooo good!!!(my new favorite bird, sorry chicken!) Everything we had was fresh, had well balanced flavor, and came in portion sizes that were filling but not gut busting. We polished off our breakfasts with a serving of scones between us, with honey and butter, as per the recommendation of our table mates, and we were not disappointed! All in all, this place ranks high on our list of Aussie cafes, and if you’re in Richmond, it’s a must.

My friend and I wanted to have brunch at a café that had free WiFi as we had some planning to do for our upcoming vacation. She found this place either on Unilocal or Urbanspoon and we went on a public holiday as it was still open for normal trading hours. We didn’t have to wait for a seat which was surprising and we served quite promptly. I ordered a mocha and the tasmanian salmon. The coffee here was great, plenty of flavour and not burnt. The meal on the other hand lacked a little kick. The flavour was pretty average as all 3 item didn’t seem to blend very well. I think the dish is missing some sauce to add flavour.

The menu here at this tiny little farmhouse-themed restaurant is very well thought out and surprising. Tons of local ingredients, I had the wallaby sausage, some sort of blueberry smoothie and a strong coffee. The staff were attentive and sweet(and attractive). Great place to start a morning.

I’m pro gay marriage, and I’m pro gay parenting. Two dads, two mums… hell I’d be pro a park bench and an old newspaper raising a child together if I thought there was any chance they’d be better at parenting than that warthog from«Here Comes Honey-Booboo». But in my case I’ve got a fairly conventional family and as my friend Adonis used to say, «You only get one mum, so look after her.» Right on, Adonis: this is why I decided to take my mum(Wonderwoman) to My Favourite Café In the World. Totally farm house vibe, water served in jars and all that… but G&M are onto a good thing. It’s called«Australia», you might know it as the place that didn’t quite give us Russel Crowe or Nicole Kidman but did give us the Hills Hoist(and thus Goon of Fortune) and chocolate atop cappuccinos. G&M pride themselves on using Australian ingredients to create their wondrous nomnoms. Not just Australian *grown*, but actually native Australian. Stuff like crocodile sausage(in the Breaky Items dish), bush tomatoes(in the chutney), bush pepper(various) and wattleseed(in the housemade granola).Wonderwoman and I shared a pastry item from the fridge — a lamb and pumpkin ‘box’(meat tender as an Irish lullaby but Sam Kekovich intense in flavour, you’d wanna love your lamb) with a side of bean and broccoli salad, but I keep coming back for the grilled mushrooms and goats cheese served on sourdough toast. I don’t like to overuse the term amazeballs, but… It’s amazeballs. The free wi-fi draws in Mac users evidently writing the great Australian novel(appropriate) who love the spot-on coffees, otherwise there’s a collection of unique teas — I like the billy tea, it tastes like Tiger Balm which is not nearly as awful as you probably think. They also serve wine now which is… just dangerous. I could easily smash a couple of bottles of organic white plonk sitting in the sun on one of the rustic tables out the front, probably sharing it with a dude with an ironic mo and a v-neck tee. Only one downside to my Sunday lunch last week: the steaming stink-eye from the German waitress, who apparently is friends with my ex. Pretty unprofessional, and I mean if we’re gonna start holding grudges for past indiscretions, then, well, the Germans might have a lot to answer for. I’m just sayin’.

Gypsey and Musquito has become a much celebrated café on Bridge Rd Richmond. It is a true foodie haven featuring modern Australian dishes with seasonal and Aussie ingredients. This is food with flair. The service and the coffee is also outstanding. You can tell these guys are passionate about what they do and it shows in every aspect. Find this place often packed especially on weekends. What many may not realise is that there are several cool areas to dine. While the downstairs section has a great vibe there is a superb upstairs section with two outstanding small dining rooms. You can check out the views out the window on to Bridge Road. And there is also a small courtyard section out the back. I’ve been here about a dozen times and impressed every time. The coffee is a standout, the ambience great, service friendly and the food is wonderfully gourmet! The counter is a hive of activity with sit down and take away coffees both popular. Be impressed by the displays of the home made sausage rolls, cakes, lamingtons, the amazing home made pies, and salads. You can choose a great meal from the counter or delve into the interesting and comprehensive menu. I anticipated a European theme with such a name — but the theme is quintessentially Australian. I didn’t realise until several visits there were rooms upstairs! One of Bridge Rds well kept secrets. Came with a group and we were able to use the smaller upstairs room for lunch. Really minimalist furnishings and art work. Another time we sat at a long table in the larger upstairs room. The food is amazing. Not fine dining but super gourmet treats… We dined with a table of 10 and everyone raving. The waitress lavished praise on her own chef saying ‘she gives the food her love.’ High praise indeed! Try the various pie boxes including lamb and pumpkin… The Angus steak sandwich was amazing… The sandwiches are great with fresh seed filled bread… Coffee is great featuring one of Melbourne’s best baristas. Great crema! Great aromas. The latte art is stunning! This is one of those Melbourne establishments that strikes a gourmet and«foodie» chord. Gypsey and Musquito is an outstanding café in the Richmond precinct let alone the city of Melbourne.

My banana & chocolate loaf was delicious but the coffee a bit watery. A lovely atmosphere, lovely staff. Shame the coffee let the place down.

You know the CWA ladies that make scones, cakes and preserved bits and bobs? Well ever think about what they did before they became award winning champs at the Royal Melbourne Show? I reckon they ran cafes, like gypsey and musquito — a place filled with homely goodness, «real» food, big chunky cakes and staffed by pretty young women in frilly aprons. I like it here — it’s offering something a little different in Richmond and the raspberry filled Lamingtons are evil and delicious. The coffee(made on the Synesso) isn’t bad either.

This bright and sunny little café is a gem amidst the regular Bridge Rd grind. They serve a beautiful brunch and all of the goodies on display are beautiful in a rustic, homemade-with-love kind of way. All of their food follows a locally-sourced and indigenous ingredient philosophy. I loved my wallaby sausages and eggs with warrigal greens, purslane, wattleseed, macadamia nuts, and other out of the bush/onto the plate delights. Most often, though, I come here for a coffee — which is solid, and occasionally even brilliant(Nb. I work next door to Seven Seeds, so bar is high.) The interior has a relaxed, homey feel — with antique dishes, old milk bottles, and other odds and ends stacked up on wooden shelves. It’s a perfect place to bring a book or a friend and take respite from the outlet shopping riff-raff.
