This place has been around for a while but for some reason it has never overly appealed to me. So upon scrolling cudo one day I saw a voucher and thought why not decent value and it’s close. Boy am I glad I did, words cannot express how high I rate this place, but I’ll give it a try. The service was amazing, our waiter was funny, attentive and definitely got a tip at the end, which for me is a very rare thing. The food, it just kept coming big plates of sensational food! The pork hock main was the stand out, the whole thing covered in crackle, delicious melt in your mouth pork underneath that sweet sweet crackle! Potatoes cooked to perfection with scrumptious onion. Welcome to the carb party. I will not hesitate in going back here time and time again. This place is a prime example of how vouchers such as cudo/groupon etc should be used by businesses and how if you treat voucher people the same as others you will get sensation word of mouth. Get there people just make sure you are hungry!!!

OST is a great place for a casual drink or something to eat. Inside is great for those colder days and outside is fantastic when the sun is out.

A lovely little underrated place on Bridge Road. The staff are so chatty and delightful, and the food is always generous and amazing.

Firstly let me discuss the positives: Ost has a casual yet simple and modern interior, upon stepping inside one feels like their in a restaurant not a pub or bar which is nice given the location. I thought the dining area was perfectly decorated, tables well spaced and liked how the place looked and felt. The serving staff were also fantastic, they accommodated my additional seating request without fuss, were polite and attentive. Now for the negatives: unfortunately the food wasn’t great, it was actually a total letdown and I was extremely disappointed. My friend and I shared the beetroot salad with lentils, turnip, goat cheese and greens and it was completely tasteless. We ate all the beetroot but pretty much left the rest as it lacked any flavour whatsoever. I think there were too many ingredients thrown onto the plate, sounded interesting enough but didn’t have any seasoning or dressing, just bland. For a main I had the homemade Pappardelle with lamb ragu and my friend had the chicken. The menu actually excited me with a Barramundi, pork and steak dish as mains, but papardelle being my favourite pasta was a no brainer. So after ordering my fave with high hopes the results, again, were unfavourable. The pasta itself tasted good but was not cooked al dente, the dish came out overcooked and dry which, of course, affected the overall taste. What could’ve been wonderful simply tasted like a reheated/overcooked pasta dish. All in all I would not go back there for dinner but I’d go for a glass of wine or drink. I had a delicious French Riesling and still enjoyed the environment for a chat. Foodwise Ost needs to up the ante, it needs a huge improvement to warrant a visit back. Go somewhere else for dinner. On the upside the bread was excellent!

OST is a great place that is a step above your average Melbourne café. It’s situated on Bridge Road, near the town hall and has the perfect outside seating area — sensible sized tables and benches, and a heated alcove that allows for nesting with coffee and breakfast at the weekend. Inside, it’s a quirky space with op shop style 70s furniture with little touches of character, a fully stocked cocktail bar and a bench with delicious looking cakes. The coffee is outstanding. They remember how you like your coffee, which makes me happy. The breakfast menu is awesome — proper bacon, DECENT sourdough, some German and Spanish influences. You should have the dish that comes in the frypan with the cheese on top. Oh yes, you should. The Eggs Benedict is awesome too, PROPER leg ham and whilst it’s on sourdough rather than muffins, I can’t complain. The hollandaise is made with love and the eggs they use have the brightest yolks. Little details like sweet tiny recycled chinotto bottles hold the raw sugar for your coffee. They also trust you to put your own salt and pepper on, instead of arriving at your table with a giant wooden phallus to dance about with. My only quibble is the opening hours. Completely shut Monday and Tuesday and opening late afternoon Wednesday, this is a wind down week’s end model, and while everyone needs time off, I’ll be totally selfish in saying that I’d be there 24⁄7 if I could. Even the loos are nice. Just go. It’s wonderful.
