Been here a few times. For drinks it’s great! But for the food a little unsure, I’ve ordered the same thing twice. First time was delicious(couple months ago) but 2 days ago it was over cooked/burnt. Took ages to come & couldn’t really handle getting them to remake it and another 1 hour wait, I just won’t go there for food anymore

Food was amazing and so were drinks. Although service wasn’t as great as I was expecting. Took a long time for someone to take our order for drinks and food. Both took a long time to come out and they got our order wrong. Apart from that it’s a great atmosphere and tasty food.

We to Matisse yesterday, had fish and chips and the prawn cup starter, both were pretty nice, real meaty fish, prawn cups were really fresh and tasty although small. Sundowner happy hour the way to go with $ 20 bottle of bubbles, half price pizza(we didn’t have pizza but it looked good) $ 25 cocktail jugs. Think it would be good if they had a dress code to keep out some of the trash and class it up a bit then it would match the vibe they are going for.

If you are looking for a classy night out with friends, or a romantic dinner date… go to Matisse! The staff are friendly and open and always quick with drinks; our food also comes out super fast and is delicious! A little pricey with regards to food but it is delicious and well worth it! Try the oysters! The cocktails are a good size and always taste amazing! Plenty of room with cute beach chairs and lounges with a beautiful view of the ocean! Not a single complaint about this place! :)

Second time at this venue and loved it, looks like the kinks have been well and truly ironed out. Firstly, the view and acres of space at the front is brilliant. The area is set up as a lounging /informal dining area for having casual drinks and a chat. I’d reckon Matisse is the biggest venue in Scarborough now so everything is very spread out and unlike other spots in the area you don’t need to triple check and play the angles when you decide to stand up. The front area was the perfect mid arvo drinking spot for our solid birthday group with plenty of room to move around, deck chairs, standing room and tables. Secondly, getting a drink in Perth can be a massive pain in the a$$. There is nothing in life more frustrating then getting behind old mate who’s just ordered four different cocktails and only seeing one person manning the bar. The night before I actually gave up after waiting ten mins at ‘the stables’. I went back to the group of lads I was with and kindly asked them to redirect any excess beer into my cup which they luckily obliged. So to get all my drink requests fulfilled(there was a fair few too) in under two mins was pretty ground breaking. Next point is the prices. Unfortunately Perth fancies itself as a bit of a Monaco part two, coffee is often $ 5+ and parking in the wrong spot in the CBD can mean remortgage discussions with your lender may be required. Whilst the food(pizzas and chips) we had weren’t cheap I wouldn’t consider it OTT with the pizza at $ 24 — fair to slightly above average. Likewise the beers weren’t cheap(~$ 11⁄12 for a premium beer) but it’s not an RSL or Army barracks so I can definitely cop that. Lastly the attitude and atmosphere of the place. I was thinking i was going to get Kim Kardashian crowd and that standard smug arrogance that some can acquire when they join the service industry. Complete opposite. The staff were great, the party I was in were very well lubricated and when a function was starting up in the front area we were in they kindly put up with our stories and graciously requested we move to another area with plenty of notice. Nice. The other thing was… And don’t hold them to it but… The host actually paid for a cabana(private area) but the weather that day was going to be torrential so they phoned in advance and advised that they could provide a credit if the host wanted to back out. Brilliant. So all in all it was a very good session and the whole party had an absolute blast.

Mattise has really stepped it up for summer, the venue looks great since they have opened up the front and turned it into a balcony. Their licenece has been changed to allow drinks to be served in glass and the drinks prices are now competitive with the other Scarborough venues. Good tunes and a great atmosphere, it’s back on my summer hangout list!

I went to Matisse recently for a hens night, and we had a cabana booked to spend a few hours in. We were allowed a max of 15 people, however there were 12 of us and we couldn’t all fit into the cabana at once so I’m not sure how 15 would be able to fit, unless you’re all standing up like sardines with the furniture moved out! Luckily the venue itself wasn’t completed packed so a few of us could spill out into the main area just outside the cabana so we could still all sit together as a group, sort of. The food platters were fantastic! All the food was really well presented and delicious, and the staff were really accommodating with the drinks package. If I’m being honest I felt the theming was a little confused — the fit out with the glass doors leading into the bathrooms seemed quite modern and classy, which made some of the white plastic furniture(which definitely suits a beach club theme) look a little tacky in comparison. I had a good time there and it was a fun venue for a hens night, but probably not the type of venue I personally would frequent often.

Went to Matisse for dinner on a Friday night with work friends. Fun beach club with interesting décor and a playful vibe. The tables felt very flimsy though! Our meals were delicious and the staff were lovely. One of our group got his dessert order missed accidentally and the waiter was very apologetic and offered a free beer to make up for the wait. Nice gesture at any rate!

I finally went to Matisse after hearing so many things about this beachfront bar, not all of them good. First up is the ID check. If you’re under 18 or have a rap sheet you won’t be allowed in, otherwise you’re good to go. The décor is very Miami, with lots of white and neon setting off nicely the bright blue swimming pool in the middle. The armchairs around the pool are prime real estate on a sunny afternoon. I loved the old black and white photos over the bar and the girls’ bathroom could be the nicest in Perth with its cool retro bikini shots. I happily quaffed the Matisse bubbles($ 9) all night. For all the people who moaned about the plasticware you’ll be pleased to know your complaints have been addressed and I drank my sparkling wine out of real glass. The DJ finally got going and cranked out some great tunes. I think he needs to be more up front and loud and proud to make this place rock out more. And please, we need a dance floor!

What a spot! It’s a fantastic location and brilliant design. I love going here, wether it’s for a few cocktails with the girls or nice meal. I’ve never been disappointed. We recently visited the venue for lunch, the weather was fantastic and we needed to be somewhere close to the beach. Not a cheap meal, but man oh man! So worth every penny!!! I had the fillet steak with a side of chips and green beans, what a feast! Service was great, good was brilliant and the atmosphere just added a cherry on top. It’s worth a visit,

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’d heard mixed opinions on the Scarborough beach club, but I was pleasantly surprised. We booked a table for four and managed to skip the line rolling down the colourful steps. We decided to share the Charcuterie plate, which featured black pudding, duck, bertrrot relish and at least five other types of Italian sausage. It was really tasty, but I thought it was pretty overpriced. $ 40 for a few small pieces of meat was a bit OTT. We also had the chips, which were thick cut and tasty. Served with aioli they were nice, but again, over priced. I like the concept of the place but everything was overpriced! $ 9 for a glass of house wine is very steep, especially when you could see it was a clear skin. Make sure you have lots of cash if you plan on visiting… You’ll need it.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about this place so thought I’d finally check it out! Came here for drinks and dinner with friends. I walked in and was blown away by the Vegas /LA /Miami feel very cool with the pool and beach balls. It’s a classy place and has a good vibe. We ordered the platter which was delish! Reasonable price as well. I had a great time here enjoying the cocktails and even had a boogie on the dance floor. Cool place will return :)

Left the kids after a nightmare morning in the city for the giants event and spent the afternoon snuggled up in a cabana! We lucked out and got the yellow one. A big day bed with piles of pillows. The perfect spot to people watch and have a relaxing Sunday afternoon. The entry to the bar is via the scanning of your license which I’m still a little uncomfortable with. The bar layout is luxurious, gentle beachy colours with a large lashing of plastic. There are nicely defined areas even though it’s just a large room opening onto a deck with a paddle depth pool covered in beach balls. We started with a piña colada and a glass of bubbles. Very nice. The drinks are expensive! $ 18 for a fairly small piña colada. After settling into our little yellow cabana we decided to try the oysters, chicken wings and fruit platter. Oh wow! Could this place entice us to fall in love a little more with it than when that all arrived to our cuddly corner? One word, FRESH! Actually a litany of fresh synonyms would suffice. The best part was that our feast totalled $ 43. Our afternoon was a sheer delight. We people watched, sang along to the tunes, ate, drank and relaxed on our pile of cushions. Yes it is a small ocean of fake boobs and pretty boys! But we felt like we had been treated well by the staff, had not been ripped off completely and left wanting to return. And that to me means a whole lot! Nice work Matisse.

What can I say??? If you like plastic, plastic, plastic this is the place for you. There were even some customer that looked plastic! The pool area looked okay but there were no seats left so we sat at the back. The big long chairs were comfy. The drinks list was good. I thought it was a little much asking us for identification & to get a photo taken when it was very early on a Sunday afternoon. This has not happened me before.

When I went there, Matisse seemed to be swamped with barely legal, preening youngsters aiming to be seen. Lots of cleavage and scarily high platform heels seemed to prevail. What with the doof doof music and the pool(yes, pool) in the middle of the bar, I felt like I was visiting a party scene from a Hollywood teen flick or TV series. Even on a Sunday afternoon, you have to have your ID scanned and smile for the cameras before gaining entry. I found it a tad pretentious, so it surprised me that all the drinks are served in plastic. Half the furniture is plastic too. But… it’s cool nonetheless. I mean, how many bars can you go to where it’s ok to kick off your shoes and dip your feet in a pool? Brilliant for cooling off as you drink and chat with friends. You can also throw beach balls around. Nice! The vibe is energetic, and there is great people watching to be had. Matisse is huge, so it’s easy to find space for groups, especially in the sprawling lounge area at the back. I’m torn. Matisse is SO not my scene. At all. But I had a good time, and it was very different from the inner city bars I usually frequent.

We came here to check out a features dj and had high hopes! Now visually the place is stunning such a great idea lots of little places to sit and the cocktail menu was tasty but could have been cheaper. What bothered me is the randomly placed pools that have several beach balls floating in them yet you can’t go in the pool and you can’t touch the balls??? What is the point of having something to look at yet not touch??? As I watched the night progress I would hate to be one of the security who I am pretty sure was solely to protect the beach balls and tell of ppl who were wading in the pool but the more rowdy ppl got the more balls and pool were looking appealing and people given in to temptation. So I say boo to you matise either let us play or don’t have them there!

I don’t think a new place in Perth has ever garnered such a bad reputation so soon after opening, but Matisse seems to have achieved that. So I approached lunch there with trepidation. But I was pleasantly surprised. The service from our waitress(an Asian girl named Sarah) was warm and helpful which went against everything I’d heard. I had the chicken breast on a bed of salad which was delicious! Good portion size too. My friends enjoyed the gnocchi and the club sandwich, but my friend said her medium rare steak was tough and overcooked. Where this place loses major points is the drink prices! Seriously ridiculous! But I liked the décor. Unlike anything else in Perth. A balcony would be nice though! I’d be interested to return at night, though not sure if I could afford a night of drinking here!

Having lived in Scarborough for the past 10+ years I was excited by a new bar opening nearby as the Scarborough Esplanade is well overdue for a spice up and some life to be breathed back into it. I can’t say I have been blown away by Matisse after two outings there. I ventured here on a Saturday night for a look and a drink — interesting crowd but it was opening weekend and like me everyone had come for a look. The fit out is quite cool and I do see the purpose of the plastic, but there are A LOT of chairs, pretty much everywhere you look. The ambiance of the place did not really impress me I felt it lacked atmosphere, I can’t help but think how good this place would be with a pool side DJ and dance floor or a band — but maybe I am trying to re-live the old Lookout days! I also went here for lunch on Anzac Day with a group, on this day I had the Ahi Tuna Burger — I must say that $ 28.00(not incl. the public holiday surcharge) for a burger and chips seems a little steep by my standards but in saying that I wouldn’t have minded paying it if my burger had of been amazing. Unfortunately mine wasn’t even cooked through, it was half warm half cold, disappointing as the favors of the rest of the burger with the pickled cucumber, wasabi mayo and asian slaw really seemed to work. What I hadn’t noticed the Saturday night I was there was the lack of drink size selection, I went to the bar and asked for a midi of light beer being a day I just felt like one medium sized alcoholic drink, which brought a response of ‘sorry we only serve pints’. Really? What? Only pints? My background made me want to question the bar staff about the responsible service of alcohol but I let it be and just ordered a pint of mid strength beer which cost me $ 14! On a positive note the pool side area on a sunny day is nice, it is hard to know what is going to happen out in the outside area come winter though.

I was not expecting to like Matisse, I had heard bad reviews about the food and sometimes the scene in Scarborough can be a little bogan. A friend was in town for one weekend, and we were planning a girl’s lunch, I thought we might as well give it a try. I surprisingly liked the fit out — very Miami. Lots of white and pastel colours. Everything(yes everything!) is plastic, from the chairs inside to the glassware. Must be an OH&S thing with the pool outside. That’s right, there is a little pool in the outdoor area which you can swim in. Shame the pool area or any part of the bar or restaurant doesn’t open up to the sea-breeze or sea views. The food was solid pub grub — though expensive with entrees at around $ 24 and mains at around $ 30. At our table I sampled the gnocchi and club sandwich which were good. My friend wasn’t that impressed with her steak.

Matisse, what a mess … Popped in here today for a lazy lunch and few cocktails to see what all the fuss is about with this new beach side offering in Scarborough from the owners of the Breakwater. Knowing that you can already expect to be opening your wallet A LOT for the pleasure of dining and/or drinking here. I have no comments about queues as around lunchtime on a Tuesday whilst busy the place wasn’t exactly«pumping». I also have to say the service at the bar was quick and both professional and genuine. It seems the go is that you order your drinks/food at the bar and then they are taken out to whatever table you choose to sit at. The ambiance and atmosphere is very modern and cool. That I can’t disagree with — and even the plastic look works in with the theme, BUT this does not apply to personal comfort. With plenty of seating options available we found ourselves gravitating towards one of the famous booths only to change to more comfortable seating very quickly once we discovered how uncomfortable the plastic seating on offer was. Word of advice here — if there are daybeds available grab them. The plastic head tables and chairs look cool but that though quickly disappears once you feel how uncomfortable they are. Same goes for the plastic style couches. We decided on the Tender Ridge Beef Carpaccio, Pork and Orange Croquettes and a Lemongrass Chicken Pizza washed down with a Pink Mojito and an Espresso Martini. No so far you might be wondering why in my right mind I gave the rating I did. This was a rating covering all things, service(quiet good), ambience/fit out(pretty decent) and the food(I will get to this). The place was only about half capacity or less around the wading pool area and the Beef Carpaccio came out at the same time as our other entrée, the Pork and Orange Croquettes. The drinks also came just shortly afterwards. No complaints on timing here. Where things started to go wrong were the food and drinks on offer. Also the seating as if you don’t find seating with cushioning available you are not going to have a very enjoyable time if seated for a decent length of time. The Beef Carpaccio came out and to our surprise the edges appeared to be seared and in some cases(smaller slices) seem to have been cooked through. Now by definition Carpaccio is raw meat or fish(beef in this case). This unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the understanding of the chef, who upon our inquiry about being served cooked beef, informed us that the edges were«sealed» intentionally. We left that conversation questioning the definition of Carpaccio and decided to have our dish exchanged for the Wild Mushroom Tart. Things didn’t get much better in this instance. The tart bases appear to be pre-made(store bought), even though they do contain a little flavour and the mushrooms consisted of mainly field mushrooms with the odd«surprise» served of a single enoki mushroom(if you really looked for it). This doesn’t really qualify as «wild» mushrooms. The Pork and Orange Croquettes were«okay» and probably the strongest of the dishes we tried but still failed to hit any kind of high note that we were expecting considering the asking price. The Lemongrass Chicken Pizza had arrived at this point and whilst qualifying as average at best, neither me nor Ms S could taste any hint of Lemongrass. The cocktails you ask? — The Espresso Martini was decent but a little sweet for my liking and the Pink Mojito was reasonable BUT why would you serve it in a plastic non see through cup??? The whole point of a cocktail is to showcase a flavour combination with visual cues that make you want to consume it. If you present the drink in something that resembles a young child’s plastic cup you have no idea what you are drinking unless you look into the cup from the top. This also goes for the plates that the food was served on. Hot Tip — plastic is a VERY cheap look. Unfortunately neither the food or the drinks impressed us. In fact Ms S was so annoyed at the food on offer that a complaint was put through to the kitchen via the on duty manager(who to her credit remained friendly and professional through the entire ordeal). One of the very little positives we took from this experience was that the Wild Mushroom Tart(our choice) was offered as a free replacement for the«not so raw» Beef Carpaccio by the aforementioned on duty manager. Considering Scarborough is a bit of a drive for the both of us, the fact that the pricing is similar to the Breakwater and the fact you would actually have to line up to get in at night, I can’t see either of us returning anytime soon, with plenty of great alternatives in Perth without the need to line up or dive into your wallet as often. Overall — Ambience and atmosphere are a positive along with decent friendly service BUT food and drinks on offer and their presentation in plastic kid’s cups and plates takes the shine off a place that charges the moon and stars for the pleasure.
