Grabbed brekky here this morning — really good. $ 14 got me a big brekky with thick continental toast, bacon, eggs and sausage. Yum! Coffee really good. Busy and good spot and atmosphere.

My Wife and three lil ones have been Café Frooter’s for some time now. The reason — the place tix all the boxes: great quality food and coffee and lashings of it(best BLT’s on Earth bar none), the prompt and friendly service(especially Captain Froot himself) and best of all the affordable prices. Our Family of 5(ok the lil ones are lil as they age between 3 and 7) can fully load up on 2 giant BLT’s and 2 giant blueberry pancakes with drinx for less 35 bux! Do yourselves a favour folks, check out this not very well hidden secret down Sema4 way…

I wasn’t sure about the vibe of Café Froot initially. After sussing out all the ultra-stylish cafes along this stretch, Café Froot seemed almost bland in comparison! However, I really warmed to it. It has a friendly, casual feel, which is strongly supported by its owner. He used to own a café on Brunswick St in Melbourne, which impressed me — it means he’s likely to know what he’s doing. And I think he does. The food here is cheap, wholesome and oh-so-generous, the fresh juices are delicious, and the reading material is great — what more could I want? I settled down with a Frankie until my «green eggs and ham» dish arrived. Woah! Okay, where do I start this battle? Two huge chunks of bread, tons of delicious eggs, a serious heap of spinach and I think the term«lashings» of prosciutto is most suitable. I almost won, but it defeated me in the end. For $ 10.90, I was extremely satisfied. Fresh, healthy and delicious, a great lunch and a good read. The owner knows almost everyone who comes in, and if he didn’t know you to start with, he will by the end. He greets the postman, the neighbours and the regulars who come in for a chat. This place has a fantastic vibe, without trying too hard for it.

The word Froot has unfortunate connotations with the word foot. Why not just call it Café Fruit? This café is quite small but has heaps of seating inside and out. They had a quote from Ben Cousins written on the blackboard but I tried not to judge them harshly for it. The café is citrusy orange and green and feels sunny and inviting. They have breakfast all day and the menu is pretty cheap: full breakfast for under ten dollars. While I was there it was very busy, and everyone was scoffing full breakfasts and having a grand old time. I had a ham and cheese toastie and a juice for eight bucks: pretty cheap! The sandwich itself, I don’t want to exaggerate but it was huge. It was like a bread mountain, with one thin slice of cheese, and one tiny slice of ham in the middle. The bread was so thick it gave me lockjaw: I had to de-construct it into pieces to eat it. Nice bread sure, and I get that they’re trying to do a cool gourmet thing. But I didn’t order a bread pile, I ordered a sandwich! Great service and atmosphere but don’t get a toastie unless you can fit your whole fist in your mouth.
