I tend to like the savory foods at bakeries and this quaint little family owned shop offers a nice assortment of savory items including meat pies, sausage rolls, bacon & cheese rolls, fetta spinach triangles and pastry pizzas. I enjoyed both the sausage meat roll and the feta spinach triangle but did not like the pastry pizza. The sauce was way too sweet, making it virtually inedible. The bacon cheese roll used some sort of cheese sauce that was too thin. I’d much rather have actual cheese in my roll rather than cheese sauce, which made the roll taste too much like it came from McDonald’s or some other low quality fast food shop. That said, it is nice having a warm savory pastry for breakfast on the go and this shop satisfies that need.

I find it hard not to like bakeries. There is something about the smell of fresh bread that just makes me smile. And when a bakery is independently owned you get a unique taste to their produce. St Lucia Bakery is a quiet little one, tucking into a bunch of shops at the Sir Fred Schonell and Mitre Street junction. It does not look like much from the outside. The white plastic tables and chairs are pretty dodgy but who really cares when you are only there for a few minutes to scoff down a pie or muffin. The muffins they sell are massive! They are a total meal in themselves and tasty as hell. Try their sandwiches and croissants as well if you have a chance. Family owned, this little local bakery is quite the treat and prides itself on its friendly service. You will leave this place with a smile guaranteed.
