A quirky little place to stop by for a super strong coffee. In the back room is a wine bar. If Juanita is around which she mostly is, coffee can be purchased. This is a relaxing and intimate place where everyone knows each other, the owners are very welcoming. Outside there is a small window counter where you can also order and sit down if you prefer the fresh air. The coffee is good!

Awesome gift and art supply store with all kinds of interesting new and antique items. I love the linen napkins and tableware they stock. They also carry the cutest plastic kids lamps in the shapes of giraffes, blowfish, etc.

This corner store was created by worldwide accomplished WA artist Murray Gill and his wife Juanita Hille. They are also the creators of Dingo Fine Art Supplies and the restaurant Harvet in Freo. Gill & Hill Merchants continue to be a family affair with Juanita or one of their children working in store. This store combines a gift shop, with a gallery and an art supplies store. It is crammed full of unusual and useful products from around the world, with a special focus on Europe. Find everything from french linen, Danish glassware, handmade journals from Florence or vintage Ray Bans. It is a real treasure trove of beautiful and practical things.

Owned by artist Murray Gill and his wife Juanita Hille, this corner store stocks Art supplies for the seasoned drawer, painter and scuplter. It’s a diminutive space stocked to the rafters with European small homewares and stationary items. Find napkins with unique prints and witty quaotes, gift cards with art prints, terracotta tea lights, Danish glassware and other whimsical objects to pepper your windowsills with. Gill and Hille also cater magazine enthusiasts with an edit of European magazines like French Elle and Vogue as well as art and design publications. Murray Gill also offers 3 hour art classes on Saturday and Tuesday mornings for $ 80.

Gift stores with a European bent often poach from the most obvious of locations: Paris, Rome, London, but Gill & Hille broaden shoppers’ perspectives by offering an array of unusual but practical knick-knacks, accessories and stationery. From beautiful handmade journals from Florence, to Danish and German homewares, there’s something for every taste. Even an entire section dedicated to vintage Ray Bans for electro bunnies to ogle over.

Half art store, half everything else store, Gill and Hille a hipster’s paradise. Located on the top half of Rockeby Road, my favourite thing about this place is their supply of up-to-date specialty design & fashion magazines which are impossible to find at your local news agency. A must for someone who enjoys antiques, art, stationery, fashion, and even horticulture!

There are some old-fashioned wooden pegs in this store that are sold as «Nostalgia Pegs». Elvis Presley plays through the stereo. Lush magazines and hand-made journals are scattered about, and outside is a wire rack of flowering punnets. Gill and Hille Merchants has a distinct European vibe. It’s warm, it’s interesting, it’s full of special gifts. Beautiful antique cabinets are loaded with traditional French linen, one-of-a-kind homewares and Danish sourced glassware. There’s an entire room dedicated to artist paints, sketchbooks and quirky cards. The prices are high, but the sentiment is rich. If you don’t leave this place smiling, you may need to get your soul checked.
