If I could give this place 0 I would if you’re planning on going out and dealing with douche bouncers and slow service come here. Otherwise spend your money elsewhere.

I’ve been here twice now. Like the reviewer below states… it advertises itself as Sydney’s sexiest nightspot. The website goes on to say that it’s «an opulent oasis in the heart of the city.» and that it’s «a classy cocktail lounge offering unmatched service in a cozy atmosphere.» I don’t think it’s the sexiest nightspot in Sydney… and it’s neither outstandingly opulent nor classy(sorry) that’s really not the vibe I get here. It could be called cozy I guess? That being said, this isn’t a bad place to go to. They’ve played R&B music both times I’ve been, if you’re into that kind of music. Drinks were quite good, and we ordered a food platter which was pretty yummy. Service is pretty good, they get points for trying but there have been some hiccups… one time my friend got yelled at and told to leave by one of the bouncers because they thought he was drunk… he was just sleepy after a long day and had closed his eyes. The other time, the waiter tried clearing our table and spilled the chili sauce all over two of my friends’ jeans… he was apologetic about it though and gave us a piece of cloth to clean up with. They also have a photo competition, where the winner gets a $ 100 tab for the next week, so that was pretty good. This place hasn’t totally won me over, but I wouldn’t mind coming here if a friend had a birthday or something. Come here for some food(pretty decent) and if you’re into R&B music and want to dance.

We kicked off my birthday bar-hopping night at this place. It was very laid back on a Thursday night with a lot of specialty drinks with funny names. There were also slot machines in the back, which was new to me since it’s not common in the US. Make sure to read the descriptions of the drinks on the menu. My cousin skimmed what«The Prohibition» was and didn’t realize it came with 3 shots in addition to the actual drink. She was in for a nice surprise.

The V Bar website describes it as «Sydney’s sexiest nightspot». Putting aside the fact that this is an incredibly large claim, what does this phrase actually mean? What does it take to become Sydney’s sexiest nightspot? Well, if we examine V Bar as our example, we find that this is a bar spread across a front bar and a lounge out the back. The lighting is dim but not so dim as to be dark. Signature cocktail options include the«Need A Vacation» and«Smack My Bitch Up», names which would be more appropriate if scrawled across cloudy glass bottles transporting jailhouse wine. And for the life of me, I cannot actually find any pictures of people in the bar, either on their website or on their Facebook. Was I even there? Is this the Red Room from Twin Peaks? It’s safe to say that this is not, in fact, the sexiest nightspot in Sydney. It is a reasonably pleasant and chilled out bar, it makes a decent alternative to the options along George Street, and even if they are poorly named, the cocktails do look interesting. But don’t buy into the advertising.
