Café Diglas

Ja, das diglas ist ein typisches alt Wiener Café Haus! Es hat mir dort sehr gefallen, wobei ich die Bänke äußerst um bequem gefunden habe.
Der Kellner war sehr aufmerksam und schaute ab und zu ob bei uns alles passt. Ich hatte einen Apfelstrudel mit Vanille Sauce und einen café, beides zu empfehlen !

Sehr nette Atmosphäre! Das Kaffee hat einen Stil. Wie waren dort zu dritt haben einen leckeren Wein sowie 3 unterschiedliche Speisen gekostet. 1 A. Die Portionen sind recht groß und Preis — Leistung stimmt auch! Auch die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam! Klare Empfehlung.

Sehr beeindruckendes Café in Jugendstil. Top Conditorei im Haus, wahnsinns Auswahl an leckerstem Torten und Kuchen. Tolles Brunch und Gerichte von Österreich wie Backhendl Salat, Wiener Suppentopf, Palatschinken mit Wachauer Marillen… einfach lecker… ein Besuch ist ein Muss, wenn man in Wien ist.

Das Diglas ist nicht nur ein klassisches Wiener Kaffeehaus sondern auch eine Anlaufstelle für den Club der Bananenschnittenanhänger (CBSA). Es gibt hier angeblich die beste Bananenschnitte Wiens, nachdem es ernsthafte Kaffeehäuser ja nur in Wien maximal noch in Budapest und Prag gibt, wahrscheinlich also die beste Bananenschnitte der Welt. Ansonsten sehr gemütliches Café mit interessantem WC-​Absperrmechanismus, wer sich für diese Sachen interessiert. Natürlich sind die Preise dem ersten Bezirk angepasst, das ist quasi selbstverständlich.

We ordered three schnitzels– all fantastic, and to our surprise the less-​traditional chicken was just as good as the pork.
And DO NOT miss dessert; best cake in Vienna, all delivered with wonderful service.

Ein typisches wiener Café. Live Musik für ein schönes Ambiente.
Kalbsschnitzel und Kaiserschmarren zu empfehlen. Die Preise sind etwas überzogen. Tee 4,10 (auch wenn man nur heißes Wasser verlangt), Kalbsschnitzel 24.

Nach unserem leckeren Schnitzel im Figlmüller fragten wir dort, wo wir als Abschluss noch einen guten Apfelstrudel mit Vanillesosse bekommen würden. Er verwies uns an das nahe gelegene Café Diglas.
Und er hat uns nicht zuviel versprochen. Es war zwar kein Apfelstrudel auf der Karte, aber sie hatten und es war sehr lecker. Die Einrichtung ist so, wie man sich eine klassisches Kaffee in Wien vorstellt und die Ambiance wurde von einem Piano-​Spieler noch angenehmer.
Ich würde wieder gehen.

Came here for dessert and coffee; I’ve always been a sucker for Topfen (a German curd cheese amply used in desserts and bakery goods), so I kind of ignored the other cakes and desserts they had and went straight for the Topfenstrudel. Truth be told, their selection was not the widest or most impressive I’ve ever seen in a Viennese café, but a few things did look better than the Strudel, loaves of which were sitting in a huge pan on display.
Unfortunately, it was not great. The Topfen was dry and rather bland in taste (I normally prize it for its tartness), and the pastry jacket did not taste or feel fresh. For a café with such a reputation, I certainly expected a much fresher product, not to mention a tastier one. My companion did seem to enjoy her cake very much.
I also had a soft drink – I think a locally crafted soda of some sort, which was very good. The coffee was also great.
The service was a bit slow and bare-​bones, but sufficiently courteous, and the prices were in line with similar cafes. I will probably go back to try other things — the place has a reputation with the locals that surpasses that of other touristy cafes; for topfenstrudel, though, I will not go back.

Fui al café Diglas a tomar el postre y la atmósfera me resulto muy amena. Me decidí por una torta de arándanos y estaba buenísima. Hasta las diez de la noche toca un pianista, ¡genial!

This is a great combination of authentically classic Vienese coffee house dining and creative approaches to traditional cuisine. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is superb! And the food is delicious. To me, the atmosphere is the best part. They often have live piano music which gives the place a 19 century feel. The lighting is also subtle and invokes a bygone age. The interior has little humorous accents like the kitchen utensils hanging from the chandelier or the cushion covers made to look like bags of wheat, pepper, etc.
They serve very traditional Viennese dishes like creamed spinach with a fried egg and rösti potatoes or Blunzenmedallions (blood sausage). They also have very innovative daily specials like the red beet apple cream soup with ginger I had which was a dream!
The food is a bit pricey. But it’s the kind of pricey where you feel you really got something extra for that extra bit of cash. But no worries! If you’re on a budget you can just come for a coffee or a glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere for a fraction of the cost of dinner. Actually, I might go back often just for more of that soup!

Ein Wiener Café wie es sein soll. Mir gefällt der Platzanweiser, der verhindert, dass sich Menschenmassen durch die Räume drängen. Man wartet am Eingang und bekommt meistens recht schnell einen Tisch auch wenn viel lost ist.
Die Mehlspeisen sind sehr gut und man bekommt eine schöné Auswahl an Kaffees, Tees, Weinen und auch warme Küche (habe ich noch nicht ausprobiert). Das Ambiente ist sehr angenehm. Komme immer wieder gerne.

Wenn ein Caféhaus fünf Sterne verdient, dann ist es das Diglas. :-)
Nur im Advent und an den Wochenenden im Winter sollte man es tunlichst meiden– entweder bekommt man eh keinen Platz, oder aber die Touristen– Massen überschwemmen diesen wunderschönen Ort.
Man hätte dann einen ganz falschen Eindruck von hier, würde sich wundern wie man überhaupt fünf Sterne für dieses Lokal vergeben kann… :-)))
Ja, ich tu es sehr gerne und die Gründe dafür sind folgende:
Erst 1923 gegründet und seit dem im Familienbesitz in vierter Generation.
Die alte historische Backstube ist komplett erhalten und klarweise in Betrieb.
Hier werden die Mehlspeisen nach alten Originaltezepten zubereitet.
Alle Kuchen, Torten, Scheiterhaufen, Grießschmarren und Kaiserschmarren sind uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen .
Eine wunderbare Küche, ja eigentlich schon ein Restaurant ergänzt das Ganze noch.
Unterschiedliche, sehr gute, dreigängige Mittagsmenüs gibt es auch an den Feiertagen. Preislich sehr human!
Klarererweise auch das einfache Mitragsgericht sowie hervorragende Wiener Hausmannskost.
Im Sommer ein netter Schanigarten– ein Frühstück oder eine Mélange früh am Morgen– absolut empfehlenswert. Da trifft man wenige Touristen. Dafür fahren die Fiaker ganz nahe in der engen Wollzeile an einem vorbei. Das muss man mögen. (der Geruch) :-))
Wienerischer geht es eigentlich gar nicht mehr.

Ein klassisches Wiener Kaffeehaus der nobleren Art, aber trotzdem nicht zu touristisch. Die Preise sind natürlich anderswo günstiger, aber überteuert ist es nicht.
Wer Wienbesucher stilsicher ausführen möchte ist hier in jeder Hinsicht gut bedient.
Auch für einen gediegenen Abend mit der Dame seines Herzens eine gute Wahl ;-)

Kaffeehäuser in Wien sind so ein besonderes Thema :
wir kennen einige; jetzt auch das Diglas in der Wollzeile.
Sacher– und Himbeer– Kuchen, Mélange, Zweigelt, Braune, Schwarze.
Süsses hatten wir quer Beet.
Alles war lecker; der Kaffee besonders.
Am Ende sahen wir immer wieder die hausgemachte Limonade aus Ingwer und Limette: unbedingt probieren. Mojito Limo: sehr lecker !
Warten mussten wir; aber das ist im ersten Bezirk zu besonderen Tagen auch zu erwarten. Das Organisieren der Plätze fand aber sehr professionell statt; zu unserer Überraschung.
Platz war eher eng; aber das scheint besonders im ersten Bezirk zum Prinzip zu werden.
Am Ende zählt die Qualität und der Service; die waren sehr gut.

I am originally from Vienna, returning often and have spend many enjoyable meals at Diglas.
December 2014 i returned again with a friend– the place was overcrowded, too many tables, too many people.
We were shown to a tiny table next to the bathroom and when i asked a waiter if we could move to one of the empty (there were 3) nicer ones (one had the «reserved» on it that you see so often in this city) he did not see why not and said so.
My friend and i took our stuff and moved. A guy in street clothes who turned out to be the OWNER came up and in very sharp tones let us know that we were given the table by the bathroom and that’s where be better sit.
I protested (in English) and my friend and I continued to study the menu. Guy comes up again and told us in no uncertain terms, that we will not be served.
I informed him that this will go on the net– his comment: «do».
So here it is.
Too much business, the comfort from yesteryear that people came for is gone, and so is the basic business curtsey…
Too bad.

Sehr nettes Ambiente, jedoch in der Zwischenzeit sehr abgehoben!
Eigenwillig Vergabe von Plätzen, mit 4 Personen wurde uns nur ein kleiner Tisch zugestanden, 2 Personen die danach gekommen sind durften einen Tisch für 8 Personen beanspruchen.
Auf Grund des geringen Platzes war ein gemütliches Frühstück einfach nicht möglich!
Das Preisleistungsverhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht, extra Wünsche können nicht berücksichtig werden.
Trotz des frühen Besuches waren die Toiletten sehr schmutzig!
Mit Sicherheit gibt es bessere Lokale zum Frühstücken, dürften mehr an Touristen für den einmaligen Besuch interessiert sein.
Sehr schade, in Zukunft werden wir wieder ein anderes Lokal zum Frühstück besuchen und ich kann diese Empfehlung nur weitergeben!

The service in this place is horrible. Two people are serving an entire restaurant.
The prices are outrageous for the food and the quality.
Obviously there is Wi Fi at the restaurant named DiglGesh … However they would let even their own patrons to use it. Way to go.

Not the best apple strudel in Vienna that I taste but I like the feeling when I sat in this old café.

Amazing cakes. Sit by the fat where you can see the cake stands, foot traffic, the mesmerising video of all the cakes they make and the lovely piano player. Fantastic spot for dinner until late and again… amazing desserts!

Une amie viennoise nous avait recommandé cette adresse et nous la recommanderons à notre tour.
Tout d’abord bien que le cadre soit un peu moins cosy que certains autres établissements viennois, on n’en est pas moins à l’aise.
On est accueilli par un chariot de desserts tous plus tentants les uns que les autres. Pour l’accueil il y a donc plus désagréable !!!
Très rapidement installées, notre serveur des plus aimables nous demande notre nationalité pour nous donner une carte dans notre langue et faciliter nos choix.
Les desserts né figurants pas tous sur la carte, nous sommes invitées a aller voir le chariot et avoir des explications.
Finalement, je demande un dessert qui né figure pas à la carte et ni sur le chariot mais que notre amie nous a dit de prendre.
C’est le «kaiserschmarrn», le garçon d’abord surpris par ma demande, nous sourit et semble nous féliciter de notre choix.
Alors le «kaiserschmarrn» c’est une sorte de pâte a crêpe écrasée, revenue dans un peu ou bcp d’huile et saupoudrée de sucre glacé. Une seule assiette suffit a remplir 2 ventres affamés après des heures de marche dans la ville.
En résumé, une excellente adresse située derrière la Stephan’s Platz.

Habe mich mit paar Freunden auf ein Kaffee getroffen, da ich sehr gute Bewertungen gelesen habe. Der Kaffee ist wie überall sonst auch in den Wiener Kaffeehäusern sehr gut aber doch etwas teuer da würd ich nicht nur wegen dem Kaffee hin. Habe zusätzlich noch Apfelstrudel bestellt da wie hier schon mehrmals erwähnt selbstgemacht und sehr gut, hat mich aber nicht umgehaut der Punschkrapfen von meinem Freund war besser. Die Kellner sind sehr kompetent und schnell.

We went here on a busy Friday afternoon. We were seated quickly and the waiter was attentive… at first. We ordered the bratwurst which comes with potato salad, sauerkraut and mustard. It was good but nothing to rave about. We really went to get dessert. We tried to flag down our waiter to no avail. We told a 2^nd waiter we would like to order dessert. He waived a finger of acknowledgment but never helped us. It took 30 minutes and a 3^rd waiter to take our dessert order. We got the sachertorte and apple strudel. The sachertorte at hotel sacher is better. The apple strudel was cold and was missing the vanilla sauce I heard so much about. Super disappointing.

Das Diglas ist trotz des doch sehr «touristisch» gelegenen Platzes auf der Wollzeile ein typisches Wiener Café. Und ganz bestimmt eines der obersten Güte!
Die Mehlspeisen aus eigener Produktion sind ein wahres Erlebnis und die Portionen einen Herausforderung!!! Der Kaffee ist so wie es sich für ein gutes Kaffeehaus gehört, vor allem immer gleich gut.
Es ist ja nicht üblich über die Toiletten in diesem Zusammenhang zu sprechen, aber diese sind einen Besuch wert :-).
Die fünf Sterne verdient sich das Diglas aber locker über seine Speisen, das typische Ambiente und das Service. Ein echter Lieblingsplatz.

One of my favorites, this still bears a classy, yet modern style. Just head to the bathrooms to notice the modernism: the toilet doors are see-​through until they are locked. Very neat. Or take a gander at the TV screen above the desserts display case and I’m telling you, you will be hooked. The screen shows the entire baking process and if you weren’t hungry walking in, you will be salivating the rest of the time. If you want to catch the pianist, better come around 7pm to claim your spot as that’s when he will start.
Drinks
–Hot chocolate: it’s nicely thick and a bit more bitter. Very filling.
Sweets
–Topfentorte: this is spongier than most. It has somewhat if a lemon taste but overall it’s underwhelming.
–Sachertorte: there is only a thin layer of ganache which is decadent. The apricot jam really shines through and has a poignant taste.
–Soufflé:
.gosh. the soufflé is to die for. The bread pudding is perfectly moist and full of chocolate banana flavor. The vanilla bean sauce is lovely as it has somewhat of a rum flavoring. The meringue on top is fluffy, airy and tastes like pure sugar. Alone it’s too much (as in too big); altogether the flavors mesh perfectly. It’s very rich and decadent, though perhaps sharing is a good idea? Especially since the warmed dessert will cost you a good € 8.
FINAL VERDICT: One of my favorite cafes in the city for the atmosphere and quality of desserts. Make sure to sit in the front so that you can watch them bake.

A classic Viennese café in every sense of the word. I very much enjoyed taking in the afternoon here with some new friends — and the bathrooms are quite odd. There’s a break in the wall so you can hear the opposite sex’s bathroom and the toilet is configured such that it is see-​through glass before you lock it, and entirely opaque when you do. As is the case with most things in Vienna — not far from the centre.

Ambiente, Qualität und Tradition — aus diesen Gründen könnte man für das Diglas schon mal 4 oder 5 Sterne vergeben, wenn da nicht noch andere Faktoren zu berücksichtigen wären:
*) Preis: Sorry, aber damit qualifiziert sich das Diglas bei mir langsam aber sicher als Touristenfalle. Kaffee und Strudel um nahezu 10 € ist auch in dieser Lage nicht akzeptabel. Von einem Schweinswiener um 15 € mal ganz zu schweigen,…
*) Freundlich, solange man sich zur Essenszeit nicht alleine an einen der Seitentische setzt und dann nur ein Getränk bestellt. Das ist mir jetzt 2−3x passiert, obwohl ich bei der Bestellung darauf verwiesen hatte mit der weiteren Bestellung zu warten bis noch jemand nachkomme. Das hat nichts mit typisch Wiener Kaffeehauskellnern zu tun, in diesem Fall einfach nur mit Umsatzgier!

Vergesst das Café Sacher, esst eure Sachertorte lieber im Diglas. Die Mehlspeisen sind buchstäblich erste Sahne, da ist alles hausgemacht und auch in anständigen Portionen zu haben! Während der Touristensaison ist es etwas mühsam, dort einen schönen Platz zu ergattern, aber wenn es herbstelt, gibt es für mich kein gemütlicheres Kaffeehaus als den Diglas. Man isst auch sehr gut zu Mittag dort, es werden meistens 4 Menüs angeboten — die zu kosten, zahlt sich aus. Die Toiletten sind sehr witzig — aber findet das mal selbst heraus. Einziger Minuspunkt ist die Abschaffung des bereits bestanden habenden bargeldlosen Zahlungsverkehrs, drum gibts von mir auch nur 4 Sternderl.

Agréable café que nous avons essayé pour déjeuner. Les plats sont bons et les serveurs corrects.

Da gehe ich gerne hin, weil es einen guten Kaffee gibt, das Ambiente paßt und die Mehlspeisen grenzgenial sind. Ich gehe aber nur dann hin, wenn ich ganz sicher weiß, dass Herr Diglas nicht vor Ort ist; u.z. deswegen weil er das Personal stets vor den Gästen anweist, maßregelt etc — ich muss die schlechte Stimmung nicht haben.

Hier finden wir wohl eines der klassischsten Wiener Kaffeehäuser mitten in der Inneren Stadt. Die Einrichtung verbreitet gleich einen gemütlichen Charme. Typische Mamortische und gepolsterte Sessel dazu. Die Kronleuchter an der Decke und viele Lampen an den Wänden verbreiten auch bei Dunkelheit eine Gemütlichkeit, bei der man gern länger verweilt. Die dunkle Holztäfelung und diverse kleine Accessoires vervollständigen das gute Bild. Am Abend schallen zusätzlich die Klänge des Pianisten durch das Kaffeehaus.
Aber nicht nur das Ambiente, sondern auch die Speisen sind hier vorzüglich. Eine riesige Vitrine bringt jeden Gast in Versuchung, die eine oder andere Mehlspeise zu probieren und ganz egal, für welche man sich entscheidet — sie sind einfach alle fantastisch!
Einziger Nachteil — die gute Lage in der Nähe des Stephanplatzes zieht es auch nach sich, dass man sich an normalen Nachmittagen vor Touristen kaum retten kann und leider auch nur sehr schwer einen Platz findet. Am späteren Abend ist es dafür umso gemütlicher.
Die gute Qualität hat aber auch ihren Preis. Für Kuchen und Kaffee bezahlt man schon fast an die 10 Euro und für warme Speisen muss man schon das doppelte einkalkulieren. Dennoch wer etwas Luxus und unheimlich gute Mehlspeisen möchte, versucht es hier!!! Ihr werdet nicht enttäuscht sein.

Walked in and calmly stood for several minutes, waiting to be seated. The waiters ignored my husband and I and we finally asked if we should seat ourselves. The waiter ignored us after another few minutes we were seated without any proper greeting. The food was average-​the service dismal. We will not recommend or return.

A classic styled café with a homey and easy going feel to it. Nothing like I’ve ever experienced in the US! You can observe locals in small groups or by themselves chatting quietly and reading the newspaper. Our waiter was extremely welcoming and accommodating.
We ordered a few Viennese breakfasts that came with coffee (with steamed milk), a roll with cold butter and apricot marmalade, and croissant. It was simple but laid out very nicely on a silver tray and was a substantial breakfast. The croissant is unlike the French croissants; it was less flaky and more dense, but very tender. Coffee was delicious. This was a very pleasant breakfast experience.

Sehr voll und wühlig, merkwüridige Toilette für Nervenstarke.
Sensationelle Mehlspeisen und sehr oft gute Küche aber auch mal nicht so gute Küche und teuer.
Trotzdem ich mag das Café.

The interior is really nice and the food is ok, though a bit pricy, but that’s what you expect close to the St. Stephan cathedral.

Or for some delicious traditionnal meals and pastries?
Then you are definitely at the right place! The wonderful Austrian desserts are home made, and you can even watch on big screens how they are being prepared after you passed the order!
I’ve been there a couple of times already, with friends or with foreigner visitors, and everyone has always find his happiness thanks to the friendly and multi-​lingual staff.
And just for fun: go check the bathrooms! The doors are transparents at first but don’t worry, when you lock the door it becomes opaque and no one will be able to see through it again!

It was obvious that I should go in a proper Viennese Coffeehouse during my short little Vienna trip. I didn’t dare go to Demel which seemed too fancy, so after 45 minutes of running in circles I finally found Diglas.
Against all odds, there were seats left! But, tragically, none of the 2 things I wanted to try were on the menu (Dobostorte and a Kaisermelange). I found the coffee selection a bit slim, which was surprising. Since I wasn’t sure how much strong Viennese coffee I could ingest, I settled for a Maria Theresia coffee. But what about cake? They have a lovely selection, but all the delightful cakes are nameless and priceless! Arg!
The employee didn’t look too thrilled to inform me of all the flavours, and the place was pretty loud, so I could only make out some words. Strawberry? Joghurt? Bah, I went all touristy and ordered a Sachertorte. A couple of minutes later comes my order, and surprise! the coffee is to be assembled! You get the coffee, the apricot liqueur, a couple of sugars, and a glass of water (which I assume is to «verlängern» your coffee).Now if you come from North America, you might be familiar with the Starbucks sizes, so when the menu said a «big» moka, I envisioned a cup you hold with both hands. This is American small-​to-​medium-​sized. So basically I’m paying 3 euros for coffee, 4 euros for the liqueur, some cents for the sugar, in total 8,50 euros! Being a massive cheap-​skate, I immediately thought «This is it, I’m drinking alll of that booze, at that price». I thought of taking the mini-​bottle with me, but refrained, because I didn’t want to be chased down the street by an angry Kellner and what about the PFAANNNDD! Favourite word of the German-​speaking world.
I poured a bit of alcohol in the coffee. Can’t taste a thing. I poured some more. Still can’t taste it. Pour, pour, pour. But then I thought, my sachertorte has an apricot filling, and it is a bit too dry (wouldn’t recommend), so hey! Poured some more on the cake. A quarter of the little bottle sweetened my beverage nicely, and the cake was much improved. By half of the bottle, my hands are quivering. I paid for it, I’mmona drink it! I tried to pace myself, ate some fruit (’cause it’s healthy you know), drank some of the water, proving myself to be a total tourist and coffee neophyte. Nope, strong stuff for a non-​drinker!
So I left the remaining quarter of booze, none of the cake, and a bit of dignity in this lovely coffeehouse, for about 14 euros. Boy was everything funny today around Stephansplatz.

I lie it.
There is lots of wood in the design, which i like very much, however that us probably where my like would stop in regards to the design.
The coffee was a bit better than the standard in Vienna, HOWEVER the cakes they have to offer are to die for.
YOU MUST go eat cakes here, i 100% recommend the cakes.
However again this is a busy place like most good places are, so be prepared to wait for a free place, even though there is a lot of seating, it can still be hard to get one.

Komfortable 4 Sterne gebe ich hier, das Diglas hat es sich auch verdient.
Richtig schön gemütliche Stimmung in dem süssen Café am Eck mit einer riesen Kuchentheke, bei der die Augen ganz gross werden und man sich schwer entscheiden kann, ob man jetzt lieber leichtere Kuchen nimmt oder sahnige Torten!
Schnelle Bedienung, preislich ist der Cafégenuss natürlich nicht ganz billig, dennoch sollte man sich das Diglas nicht entgehen lassen.
Es wird nur Cash akzeptiert!

Lovely place to sit down and have a coffee and a slice of cake or something more substantial. Very cosy inside.
Beware though, no credit cards are accepted so make sure you go in with enough cash!
The cakes are all home made and taste like it, very very very nice!

This is the Vienna coffee shop experience that is not to be missed. Lovely little tables, good service, and the house bread pudding covered in Carmel is exquisite!

Still a great café, but it has lost much of it’s original flair. It now feels very touristy. Also they charge 60 cents for tapped water. We were sitting some time and consumed quite a lot of drinks, cake etc. and when I asked the waiter for just some water they were not very forthcoming and in the end charged 60 cents…
It’s a shame that such a great café has developed more into a tourist attraction. They have also upped the prices a lot over the last years. A shame…

Noch vor gar nicht allzu langer Zeit bei einem Kurztrip hier zu Gast gewesen und begeistert von dem einmaligen Ambiente und den grandiosen Mehlspeisen.
Unser Ober hatte mit der für Wiener Kaffeehäuser angeblich so traditionellen Art nicht wirklich was am Hut und war zwar recht entspannt, dafür allerdings fast preußisch freundlich. Ein Stern Abzug, für den Piefke. Ein echter Wiener mit allem Drum & Dran währe uns lieber gewesen.
Die Preise sind etwas gehoben, aber hey wir sind in Wien. Außerdem stimmte die Qualität.

This was the first place I ever dared enter by myself before I spoke German. And it is the place where I saw, and I’ll never forget, the older woman who had Apfelstrudel for lunch – and then Topfenstrudel for dessert, at the same meal. I wanted to be just like her when I grew up.
Recently we went back and I had a lovely cream of pumpkin soup. The dessert display is incredible. Homemade with love, I think. I like to think that anyway.

Ein ganz entzückendes Kaffeehaus ist das Alt-​Wiener Café Diglas in der Wollzeile.
Hier findet man noch die traditionelle Wiener Kaffeehauskultur und Gemütlichkeit, die heutzutage leider schon häufig in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Ein Besuch im Café Diglas sollte mit genügend Zeit verbunden sein. Nur so genießt man die himmlische Kaffeehaus-​Atmosphäre, Hektik ist hier absolut fehl am Platz!
Die Qualität im Café Diglas ist top, vor allem in Bezug auf die angebotenen Haupt– und Nachspeisen.
In der Mittagszeit stehen drei verschiedene Menüs zur Auswahl, ein gesundes und oft vegetarisches, ein pikantes und ein saisonales Menü. Klingt gut, ist es auch!
Von der Krönung muss ich euch jedoch noch berichten: wer ins Café Diglas kommt, muss sich die Topfen-​Marillenknödel bestellen. Diese schmecken traumhaft, sie sind flaumig und fruchtig, einfach perfekt!

Das Diglas gehört zu einem der Ur– wiener Kaffeehäuser und ist vorallem in grauen Wintermonaten sicher einen Besuch wert.
Besonders nett finde ich persönlich die Fensterplätze, die schon fast an kleine Logen oder Kämmerchen erinnern. Die Sacherwürstel mit Senf (ähnlich wie Frankfurter Würstel aka Wiener Würstel nur länger, zarter und viel besser) sollten auch nicht unangetastet bleiben, da geht sich auch noch ein warmer Topfenstrudel als Topping aus. Die Kellner haben– nun ja– den bekannt berüchtigten «Wiener Schmäh» und tragen manchmal die Nasen sogar noch für «Wiener Kellner Verhältnisse» etwas hoch.
Alles in allem aber eine durchaus empfehlenswerte Bleibe für Innenstadtstreuner.
