Definitely over-​rated!
I had my root touch up done here — by the second time I washed my hair, it seemed as if I hadn’t done anything to my hair. The color was gone!!!

I had such an amazing experience at cutting room floor! My hair is wild and curly and it had been years since I got my hair done because I was nervous about trying a new stylist. The moment I showed up and Kerri started doing my hair I knew I was in good hands. I left with a new sense of confidence and can’t wait to got back for my next cut. I highly recommend them!

I’ve been seeing Sam for ~18 months and she never ceases to amaze with each visit. With her help, i’ve been able to maintain length, while having fresh highlights that create the colour I want. She is mindful of my finite budget and ensures the colour will grow out tastefully, so the price point is justified by the value I receive. Sam’s charm on a personal level is that she is a consummate professional who makes me feel relaxed so much that I actually look forward to my time in the chair with her. If you have dark curly hair but like it longish, lightish, and straighter, I highly recommend you try Sam.

Ack! I was so torn about writing a review — I love the idea of keeping gems like this a secret… but then thought: what the heck, these guys really deserve this.
A husband and wife-​duo run this Kensington shop. I’ve been visiting Shayne for many, many years now… and well, HE ROCKS MY WORLD! He is dependable, creative and freakin fantastic. I admit, I spend a good chunk of change to keep these luscious locks looking notable and Shayne never has me question why or second guess it. He is a meticulous artist, always advising, teaching and coaching.
«Sheer» genius (ha, get it?!) aside these guys have hearts of gold. You enter into the salon always to familiar faces. They remember me, I remember them… you really do feel at home. I cannot say enough about this salon and the talent within it. You cannot go wrong.

I have been searching for a hair dresser for the past two years. I have had little to no success as most cut your hair how you don’t want it to be cut, or just have no idea what they are doing.
I am super picky with my hair as I have wavy, fine hair and if cut a certain way looks horrible.
After trying at least 10 different hair stylists, I can say that Shayne has been a dream come true. I am super happy with how my hair looks everytime and the fact I can wear my hair down without being embarrased by how it was cut is huge.
If you are looking for someone to cut your hair, ask for Shayne as you will not be dissapointed. Guaranteed!
A haircut with Shayne ranges around 75 — but is worth EVERY dollar.

My first panic when I moved to Calgary was that it took 4 years to find the right stylist in Vancouver after my first one left how long was it going to take here? I canvassed, I read reviews and ended up with a couple of horrifying hair experiences. I have longish hair and you would think fairly simple to cut but apparently this also meant fairly simple to hack and make me look stupid. Enough BAD — onto the greatness that is THIS salon!
I stumbled on this salon (I work nearby and being slightly lazy proximity to my home and/​or office is very important) and got Ashleigh as a total random. She is everything I have ever wished for in a stylist. I get stopped on the street to be asked where I get my hair done. I almost don’t want to tell people as I don’t want to be shut out. But, gotta give this girl the props she deserves. I’m back to pretty pretty hair and I can’t thank her or recommend her enough.

This review is based entirely on my stylist and her work. If it was salon based it would be closer to a 3.5 as they seem slightly disorganized with bookings and mix things up quite often. Always call to confirm your appointment is the lesson I have taken away and if you leave a message don’t expect a return call.

I was really pleased with my cut, but my first impression, not so much.
I arrived on time for my appointment and was seated to wait for Shayne in their reception area. I would have been more understanding that his prior client (a color) ran long — about 20 minutes, if I hadn’t been sitting in the reception area with three other staff members having a sit down consultation with a third party for a new diet they were looking to start. Ladies, I get it, you really think you need to lose that extra 10 pounds but is the waiting room of your workplace really the place to do it? I could definitely have done without listening to them prattle on about fat loading and how one of them did a sugar cleanse for an entire month and only lost 8 pounds! Seriously, was there nowhere else you could have had done this? I would have walked out if it hadn’t been for the amazing Unilocal reviews for Shayne, and I reminded myself that I really really needed a haircut…
Finally, Ashley came to get me to wash my hair, and she was fabulous! Excellent head massage. Five Stars.
Then came the actual haircut. Shayne was really great. He was soft spoken, pleasant, and seemed really knowledgeable. He took a lot of time just looking at my hair and discussing the options he had for my hair. I felt kind of bad for him considering I have no vision for my hair, so my expectations (and answers to his questions) were pretty vague. If I trust a stylist, I’ll just give him control of my hair, which is what I did and I’m glad. He took my long, thick, naturally curly hair and tamed it into a cute, shoulder brushing cut that (for once) didn’t fluff out into a round shape.
He explained most of what he was doing, and the theory behind how he was cutting my hair, and educated me on the right product for my hair without being pushy or sales-​y, as well as how I should defuse it. He also offered to help with any questions or problems after the cut, advising me to give him a call. I will definitely be back, and I wouldn’t hesitate to refer anyone with curly hair (or otherwise, I’m sure) to him. It was more money than I’ve paid in a while for a straight cut, but I think it was worth it. Five stars.

I have been seeing Shayne for about two years now. He is honestly the best stylist I have ever seen. I have very long (almost down to my bum) and curly hair, and he has the skills and patience to turn my sometimes unruly hair into a masterpiece.
With every cut he takes the time to show and teach me a new and different way to style my hair. I always leave this salon feeling more than satisfied, and confident in my new look. Shayne is a meticulous stylist. He listens to all of my concerns and always gives a full consultation before every cut. Shayne is constantly active in his industry and holds this standard for all the staff at his salon.
On one occasion when I was having trouble catching on to the new technique he taught me, I was able to come back into the salon, and he stayed and instructed me until I was able to master the technique. Which of course I greatly appreciated.
When I come in for my appointments I feel welcome and comfortable, the staff goes out of their way to treat each customer attentively and with great kindness. The atmosphere in the salon is friendly, interactive and professional.
I refer my own family and friends and clients to this salon. All of the staff are skilled beyond the norm, and no matter which stylist you choose to go with I am sure you will be just as satisfied as myself.
I do understand that the prices are a bit steep, but they do reflect the quality of the service provided. I get compliments on my hair daily which is the true testament to the quality of the workmanship provided at this salon.

This is a great little salon, and that’s the best part .its SMALL. There are always familiar faces to greet you. It says a lot in an industry that tends to have consitant turnover. I see Shayne for my cuts. You can feel how confident he is about his craft. Him and his wife (who owns the salon) are teachers for Joico, and tend to explain in great detail, the cut/​colour, and how it will compliment your facial features. i LOVE this. They also take the time to ask the appropriate questions and listen to your concerns.

Back in March, my sister leaves the house with shoulder length hair, and returns from the salon (Cutting Room Floor) a few hours later with Rihanna’s hair — or as close as you can get without shaving it. Shocking to say the least, but it looked really good. A week later, my cousin also gets an amazing haircut from the same stylist, at the same salon. Needless to say, it didn’t take much for me to decide to try out Shayne, whom they both saw.
First, Shayne sat me down, and as per usual asked me what I wanted. He then proceeded to take 15 minutes to just look at my hair and tell me what he could and could not do with it. I’ve never had a stylist do that before.
Shane’s really fun to talk to, a bit quirky, and you can tell he really focuses on the quality of the cut he’s doing. That being said, he will likely take more time than you are used to, but I see no problem with that. Just don’t expect to get in and out in an hour.
When finishing my cut and blowdrying, he used a technique I had never seen before, and then I tried it at home. My hair definitely looks better after copying how he does it. He doesn’t use the hair straightening iron much at all, so my hair feels a lot healthier, and looks a lot better.
He didn’t try to sell me anything, but did give me detailed info on anything I asked of each product and he knew the inner workings of every item they sell and what it does to the hair.
Super knowledgable, fun to talk to, and he made me like my hair again! I’d give it a 5 if it wasn’t $ 70.00 to see him, but, hey, it’s worth it.

I had to do it… It was time… My hair was beginning to take on a very org like essence… I realized this after sitting down for three hours to watch Lord of the Rings.
So after a pal recommended Cutting Room Floor (her hair is amazing), I took my chance.
You see, my hair is naturally curly, you might say «oh lucky you», but I beg to differ. I have the type of curly hair that looks like a bad 80’s back comb if I don’t use product. Also, forget about my husband running his hands through my long locks because quite often it becomes a game of how to untangle his fingers. So, needless to say it is hard to find the right hairstylist to take care of my mess.
Kudos’ to my wonderful friend who has taken on this task and done a wonderful job. But, it was time I try something new as my dear friend is a very busy gal:)
In comes Cutting Room Floor. I specifically asked for Shayne who is easy going and definitely confident in what he does, this makes me feel better instantly! He knew what to do with my hair after he played with it for awhile (no complaints on my end) and in the end I was extremely satisfied with the cut, I love it!!!
His head massage was amazing by the way!
So if you need a cut but don’t know where to go they have the talent to give you a modern and trendy cut definitely try them out!
If you are used to paying for a hair cut from a local chain-​no names mentioned, you may find this place pricey. I however have paid way more and have not liked the product at all!!!

When I first arrived in Calgary, everywhere I went was determined by the proximity to my apartment. Cutting Room Floor was no exception. It was the closest salon to my apartment, so naturally my first choice.
My hair is pretty easy to cut, nothing too fancy, so usually it’s pretty easy to get right. Cutting Room Floor was successful every time I went. The stylists are very friendly and drove the conversations, which is important if you like to chat. The salon was always kept clean, and I never had to sit in a chair covered in the previous customers hair (a common and annoying occurrence at hair salons).
The only downside at Cutting Room Floor is the price. Including tip, the haircut would cost me around $ 40, which is pretty obscene for a regular cut like mine. The price certainly drove me elsewhere, but if you have lots of money laying around, they are certainly a great salon.
