History
Established in 1983.
The «Claddagh Room» was opened by Liam and Kim Dolan in 1983. This building that you are now in was severely damaged by fire in the late 70’s and stood vacant for 7 years. The street that houses the restaurant was a less than desirable place back in 1983, but Liam had both a vision and determination. The Claddagh Room opened as a high-end restaurant featuring white tablecloths, quality food and service and was «the place to eat» in Charlottetown. Realizing the market was changing — a new «Claddagh» emerged in 2006 and was renamed the Claddagh Oyster House. This brought along a much more casual dining experience as well as a brand new attitude which included featuring the freshest seafood and oysters from PEI!
Meet the Business Owner
Liam D.
Business Owner
Liam Dolan was elected Chair of the Board of Restaurants Canada at the association’s Annual Meeting on March 3, 2014.
Liam grew up as the middle of 10 children on a farm in County Galway, Ireland. He developed a passion for food early in life. He showed so much promise at a young age that he won a scholarship to Ireland’s Culinary Chef’s School when he was just 16.
Three years later, he immigrated to Prince Edward Island where he worked his way around the province as a chef and food and beverage manager. After noticing a lack of fresh seafood on menus on the island, Dolan opened his own restaurant, The Claddagh Oyster House, in 1983 in a then-undeveloped part of Charlottetown. Two years later, he opened the province’s first traditional Irish pub, the Olde Dublin Pub, and went on to buy Peake’s Quay Restaurant and Bar on Charlottetown’s waterfront in 1994 Under his leadership, his establishments have become crown jewels in the city’s restaurant scene. He employs as many as 160 people
