All Happy Family Restaurant

I have always loved their food and I never had any problems ordering thru phone. Today is the first time I called at 10:37pm. The lady (FENY) that I talked to said she’s the manager. She is very rude! I don’t want to be a racist bitch because I myself is Asian, but she can’t explain very well. And she hang up the phone! Very poor customer service.

Went to have dinner with three of my friends on Wednesday. It was my first time at the restaurant, about which I heard mixed reviews so I kept an open mind. Upon entering, the décor seemed dull, the furniture looked and actually was extremely uncomfortable once we were seated, and the staff were mindless of our presence — strike one for customer service.
As for the food, apart from the curry beef, vegetable chow mein, and onion cake, the food can best be described as «comfort food for drunk people», no wonder the place is open till 4am, that’s when all the $$ comes in. The peach shrimp, despite its good taste, was swimming in a pool of oily mayo. The sweet and sour chicken (no.82) was literally «deep fried batter» mixed with «sticky orange sauce»…also good luck finding the chicken!
When it came to paying at the cashier, we asked if it would be possible to split up the bill as per each individual’s order, and the lady working simply yelled at us, began complaining how our request is unreasonable and that a few dollars here and there won’t matter.
Overall, the customer service was terrible, border line «We don’t care if you come back to our restaurant» attitude. I don’t blame them, 70% of their clientele are intoxicated individuals.

My sister recommended this restaurant to me and today I decided to try it out with her. We both ordered the century egg congee with shredded pork. I really love congee and with century egg but I find it ridiculous to pay extra $ 3 for an extra century egg. I have no commnent with the taste of the congee itself, infact, I think it’s one of the best I’ve had in the city. I also like the face that they are open until 4am.

All Happy has been a staple for my friends and I to go to after a night out on the town. They are open until 4am. I am always amazed at how many people are here from 2am-​4am and that I usually bump into someone I know. My friend and I stopped here after a night of dancing. It was packed but we managed to get a table for 2 within minutes before the big rush came in after us. The food isn’t the best Chinese food that I have had, however, after a few drinks and breaking a sweat dancing, it always hits the spot. By far, one of the best plates they have are their Deep Fried Shrimp With Peaches In Salad Sauce. The shrimp are covered in a crunchy fried batter in a creamy dressing with peaches. I believe the peaches are from a can as you can taste the syrup mixed with the dressing. It would seem like an odd combo but so delicious! Otherwise I find most of their dishes quite salty which was the case with the chow mein and the beef and vegetable dish we ordered. We also had the deep fried lemon chicken. The lemon sauce didn’t have a lot of flavour and the fried batter on the chicken was over fried.
I would give this place 3 stars for a meal after a night out on the town and 2 stars for a lunch or dinner meal.

Sadly have to drop my ratings after tonights delivery, the food was blah, undercooked and did not seem fresh! Hopefully this is just a one time bad experience.

Chicken with sweet corn soup. Peaches and shrimp. Salty fish fried rice. Add the peaches and shrimp to the fried rice and you’re golden. (Obviously eat the soup separate.) Top 3 dishes I order every time I come here. Shanghai noodles are meh but it’s a decent place for after the bar.

Definitely my favourite Chinese food restaurant in Edmonton to dine in! Any time I’ve had take-​out, it’s not great by the time I get home. And the take-​out is never ready when they say it will be.
Sure, this is a shady location, but I’ve never had any issues. And a couple times there was a nice man (perhaps homeless) to open the door for you with a smile on his face. There are two sides on the inside… one much nicer than the other. When I come with work, we sit on the nice side. When I come with friends… the grubby side.
My favourite dishes are the peaches and cream shrimp, ginger beef, and brisket chow mien. Oh, the eggs and shrimp is yummy as well. I haven’t ever had anything I don’t like here, and the prices are great!
Highly recommended!

I’ve never stepped foot inside the restaurant, but this is one of the 2 places I order Chinese from in the city (I’ve ordered from here probably a half dozen times and never had a terrible experience).
Their delivery is always quick and speedy after a quick phone call to relay your order.
And the food. the food is pretty darn good. I mean, it IS Chinese, so there is a certain level of greasiness or whatever. That’s exactly what I expect.
Of things I remember/​have eaten recently…
Chicken Fried Rice — great!
Satay Beef Chow Mein — not my thing. the spices were odd. but the rest of the group liked it
Lemon Chicken — SO good
Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork — my fave item! the reason I can’t stick to a place — nowhere else seems to have this
Ginger Beef — good. not too sinewy or anything like that.

Went with my folks for lunch and ordered 4 dishes. We were surprised at the quick service since our food arrived immediately after around 8 minutes. The servings were generous and the food tasted fresh not like other Asian restaurants I’ve been to in the northwest side. Would’ve given 5 stars except for the mediocre customer service. The servers don’t talk much and hurrily leaves when you’ve done ordering and they’ve done serving. They’d hardly come back after serving your order. Nevertheless a good place to have lunch and dinner.

Went for after midnight dine in with my buddy. Ordered bunch, all taste good but the chicken fried rice and Cantonese Chow Mein were swimming on oil. The service is fast though

I really wanted to like this restaurant, but unfortunately I don’t. First of all, their customer service is complete crap. I went in to place an order and take it to go, and they acted like I was an inconvenience or something. That annoyed me, but I ignored it. I ordered two «Shrimp Vegetable Chow Mein», which are priced at $ 9.99. For some reason, my total was over $ 30. I checked the receipt after leaving, only to find out I was charged $ 14.99 for each dish. Um ok?
The food tasted fine, nothing special really. There was less vegetables than I would like, and definitely much less than the amount in the photos posted by other reviewers. Anyway, I don’t think there is anything special about this place. Their location is far for me, the price was higher than I expected (and higher than their menu and website states), and I don’t appreciate the lack of customer service. I think there are much better places to go to when you’re in the mood for Chinese etc.

Sorry but nothing beats 3 am green onion cakes from All Happy after a wild night out on the town. They also have a scrumptious shrimp and peach dish. Mmm Mmm delish!

You already know about All Happy so let’s keep this short and sweet. Open every day of the week (typical Chinese style) and the only place, that I know of, in Edmonton that is open till 4am! The perfect spot to go to after your late night rave/​clubbing/​drinking festivities.
I haven’t been to All Happy in years (probably high school was my last time) so I was pleasantly surprised when we came here for some late night eats. The space is much bigger as they have doubled their capacity, overtaking the restaurant next door (RIP, that place was legit). The place was bumpin’ and there was a constant flow of people coming in to grab their takeout.
We ordered a couple dishes:
— Singapore style fried vermicelli ($ 9.99) — good but they overdid it with the curry powder.
— Ha gow ($ 4.99) — dim sum at 2am, how can you ever go wrong? Ha gow is a must.
— Sui mai ($ 4.99) — obviously you need to order sui mai if you’ve already ordered ha gow. They go hand in hand. It’s called tradition, don’t mess with it.
— Pi dan jouk ($ 4.99) — nothing like a good bowl of jouk when it’s cold outside. Pi dan (century old eggs) gives it a nice boost of flavour. Simple but delicious.
— Lo mai gai ($ 4.99) — my sis is too quick. You get three sticky rices, not two as in the picture. Decent.
It must be nice having the whole late night Edmonton market to yourself. All Happy must be absolutely killing it at night. Technically, hot pot is open but that’s not even a real late night option. Fast service, cheap prices and good eats. You know you waaaaaaaaaaaant it.

Most people would be deterred by the location, as there can be some questionable looking people hanging around the outside of the building, due to the Hope Mission Shelter across the street. Many times I have come here to find people sleeping in the doorway, sleeping by the parking meters or grouped outside of the restaurant. I have NEVER in my years of coming here, felt unsafe, threatened of bothered by anyone this includes never being panhandled, or my car being broken into. That being said, I always offer my left overs/​extras to anyone interested –there is never a shortage, outside. (It would be too hard to offer to buy everyone a meal!)
ALL HAPPY restaurant is a hot spot. No matter what time of the day you visit, the place is always bustling. There is a huge menu, including dim sum items. The décor isn’t anything fancy, and the service staff say little and can sometimes make you feel unwelcome, but people come here for the food and not the ambience.
This place is especially popular, late night after the bar! Which is perfect because this place is open late, has extremely fast service will satisfy your tummy and isn’t hard on the wallet!
P/​S They also deliver and do pick up. and in my experience, it has alwyas been FAST.

Their soup (any kind) is to die for, their congee tastes like happiness and their delivery is fast. The woman who answers the phone answers like a mother «what do you want to eat?» she is wonderful.
This is my favorite late night place in Edmonton. Sketchy neighborhood but the best place to eat if you want to feel at home.

Yes, it is in a sketchy neighborhood. No, you don’t have to worry about parking your car!
This is very obviously a family owned restaurant. It is actually two addresses. One side is open until 4am. Back in the day, it was a great place to go after the bars all let out. Much better for you then Denny’s.
The décor is all older and needing an update. It reminds me of sitting in a cafeteria.
The menu is EXTENSIVE! It was very overwhelming trying to pick just a couple of dishes. It would be great to go with a really big group so that you can try out a few things.
We tried the Shrimp with Peaches and Salad Sauce and the Spicy Beef Hot Pot. I also ordered Pork Chops with Salad Sauce as a takeout item.
The Shrimp with Peaches was very good — (not Paradise Shrimp at Pearl River good). They wrap the shrimp in wonton wrappers, which stays crisp even in the sauce. The peaches are canned, but we live in Alberta, so I wasn’t expecting fresh. The «Salad Sauce» is similar to «Miracle Whip» but a sweeter version.
The Spicy Beef Hot Pot had a nice level of spice in it. The beef was tender as were the potatoes. My husband described it «like a spicy Asian beef stew that has been simmering all day». He really enjoyed it.
While we were waiting for our food, I got to take a look at the takeout/​delivery menu. It is not nearly as extensive as the in-​house menu. There are some tasty options available though if you don’t want to leave your house.
The service was okay. Everything was handled efficiently and our food orders were correct. The server was polite but not overly friendly. No drink refills were offered.
Overall, I would go back for the food again. It was nice to be reminded that there are other options available besides McDonald’s and Denny’s after a late night out on Whyte Avenue.

All Happy is best known as the place to go after a wild, drunken night at the bar. They’re open till 4am, allowing you to fill your junk food cravings after spending the night dancing and drinking your face off at Knoxville’s or Central Social Hall. It’s cheap, the food is served within minutes, and it’s a delicious alternative to a packed McDonald’s drive-​thru.
However, unlike many of my friends, I also like to eat in Chinatown during the day whilst still moderately sober. I visited All Happy for a dinner with my friend Amanda – my usual date for a Garden Bakery romp – and we were sold. The noodles were as good as the Garden Bakery’s used to be and had all of the flavour that its next-​door neighbour appears to have lost.
Amanda and I are purists when it comes to our Chinatown dinners: we order the same two things each time (but don’t worry – as a halfer, I’ve tried a variety of Cantonese cuisine and a smörgåsbord of Mandarin delicacies throughout my life).
The Seafood Chow Mein was beautiful. Crispy, fresh noodles served as a bed for a mound of crunchy gai lan, tender scallops, shrimp, carrots, and squid. The sauce, which can turn to jelly if old, left sitting on a counter, or microwaved, had a perfectly thick consistency and was full of savoury seafood flavour.
The Beef Chow Fun with Gai Lan – my personal favourite – was so fresh and hot that I burnt my mouth slightly in my haste to devour it. This version of Beef Chow Fun is the ‘wet version’ (something you should mention if you order it in a restaurant), which differs from the usual ‘dry version’ that is stir fried in spices. I prefer the sauce on my noodles, which is why I order this version. It’s tasty and a nice change from the usual if you’re feeling only slightly adventurous. Gai lan is my favourite of all Chinese vegetables; known as ‘Chinese broccoli,’ it’s crunchy and has a distinct flavour similar to kale.
I also ordered a Litchi (lychee) Cooler, a refreshingly sweet drink full of litchis, which are great as an impromptu after-​dinner dessert.
Dinner for two at All Happy came to under $ 25 – a bargain and perfect for those who love a cheap and cheerful Chinatown snack. If you haven’t managed to stumble into this restaurant in the wee hours of the morning yet, give it a shot. Maybe even try it during the day. You might just like it.
P. S. They deliver! Just make sure to order an hour in advance.

One of the very, very few places open very late in this city for food. The area is quite sketchy, but I’ve always been able to park in front and I’ve never known anyone to have a problem. I’ve been here at 3am and there have been families with little kids there, so it can’t be that bad.
The menu is pretty extensive and most things I’ve had are good or even slightly above average. I would stay away from the wonton soup, though — worst I’ve ever had. I like that there are dim sum items, too. My favs are the Singapore Street Noodles and the Shanghai Noodles. Have had quite a few other dishes as well, no complaints.
Service is probably better than you would expect when you’re dining so late. I always at least get smiles, and the lady at the cash register is always nice.
