Some of the freshest tapioca pearls I’ve had in Edmonton! So soft, chewy, and perfect. You’re able to mix and match flavours from the menu to make your own custom drink. The texture of the drinks are just right — not too thick, not too runny. The flavours are also very good, without tasting like syrups or fake powders. Unlike other bubble tea places, this one doesn’t offer fun games to sit and play. It’s perfect to stop in for a chat or to grab a drink and go.

EASILY the BEST bubble tea I have had ANYWHERE. I lived in Vancouver for 12yrs and NOWHERE even compares to Boba Island. The staff is fantastic, quality is always the highest it can be and the woman who owns this is so sweet I want to hug her each time I’m in there lol. Seriously don’t waste your time or money anywhere else… a little hint, the Avacado bubble tea is SO creamy and delicious it’s like drinking butter lol :)

This place is oozing AWESOMENESS! They have the best bubble tea I have ever tasted. Literally. The owner and her daughters are so nice and lovely. The owner even gives my mom and me samples to try sometimes! The place itself is beautiful, and has a nice big«menu» on the wall. I always go with my mom and we like to try new flavors. We tried many flavors and love them all. We’ve had taro-coconut, taro, mango-coconut, mango-strawberry, guava, white chocolate coffee, chai-something(I can’t recall the name), coconut-pineapple, mango-pineapple, and so many others. I’m actually going to try the avocado-mango tomorrow! The tapioca pearls taste delicious, which is strange since I always hated them until I tried them here. We also tried the flavored jellies, but our favourites are the popping ones and the rainbow jellies. The only downside for us is the cost, it is quite pricey. However, ITISWORTHIT! Bubble tea is a treat to us. Plus with these ladies fantastic customer service and delicious bubble tea, the price isn’t that big of a deal. I would also like it if they had any«nutritional information», which would be a huge plus for me. You’re definitely missing out if you haven’t tried them yet!

Boba Island Bubble Tea has been around for ages. I think this might have been one of the first places where I tried bubble tea. I haven’t been since then, which was over a decade ago. Crazy. I decided to grab a quick BBT before a meeting downtown and stepped into a typical bubble tea joint. The inside looks pretty new and there’s a couple of high chairs to sit at if you want to hang out. The lady working the front is very friendly. I decided to see if they could make my go to avocado and mango BBT. Unfortunately, they charge extra for pretty much everything — extra flavoured jellies($ 0.75), extra fruit($ 1.50), substitute for soy milk($ 0.75) or substitute ½ sago and ½ flavoured jellies($ 0.50). The extra fruit is hella expensive, yeesh(ok, not really, but in comparison to other BBT places, yes). Other than that, most of their beverages are $ 3.95 to $ 4.95(their coconut mania and frappé bliss are $ 5.95). You’re welcome. Don’t you just hate when websites don’t have the prices up? Biggest pet peeve. — Avocado and mango BBT($ 4.95) with grass jelly($ 0.95) and extra fruit($ 1.50) — if you can do math, that’s a more than average expensive bubble tea. Total was almost $ 7.50! Sure, it’s my fault I guess that I added on extras but for that price, I want Vancouver quality. The BBT was decent. Actually, the sago(they mixed in both for me) was pretty good, considering I usually don’t like it so that was a bonus. Sadly, the avocado didn’t have that fresh, creamy taste. One cool thing was that the drink cup actually had a nice, sturdy feel to it. Not your typical cheap, flimsy bubble tea cup. Decent spot if you’re looking for some bubble tea in Chinatown. Ask for their loyalty card if you plan on stopping by for multiple visits.

Holy crap. This place is awsome! It’s the Vietnamese version of taiwanese bubble tea, but it’s pretty much the same! The taro bubble tea was so good, even with soy milk! I also tried the durian bubble tea, and OMGTHEYUSEREALDURIAN!!! ITWASSOGOOD!!! Obviously, people who don’t like durian can disagree.

Besides being in an area I genuinely fear for my life being in, there is little negative things I have to say about Bobba. The service is friendly and smiley though the accented English took a few seconds to get used to. The establishment looks very clean. The product is super yummy at least from the fresh jackfruit and avocado perspective. The avocado was good, but the jackfruit was superb! The best part about here has to be that they accept credit cards!!! You’d think in 2014 this wouldn’t be a revolutionary concept, but it appear Chinatown is a difficult place to use plastic! It checks all the boxes of what I expect from a bubble tea joint. A gorgeous gem of a place in a sketchy area. Just be careful coming in and out and you will love it.

Clean location. Newly renovated. Nice seating to relax after a long hot day. Juices are tasty. Sago is bland. This used to be my go to place for bubble tea. It still is when I am in chinatown. The fresh juices are tasty but its not fresh. Just frozen fruits. But hey ive researched that and frozen fruits are higher quality bc they are frozen in peak season with the best taste then fresh fruits in the off season. Therefore fresh juices made here are great. I enjoy the passionfruit green tea. I normally have the coconut bubble tea. Its delicious and probably the best flavour ive ever tried. It give me vivid memories of hong kong and street food. The only downside is that the sago is very bland. Considering that this is the main ingreadients in bubble tea its kinda disapointing. Its bland and unussually tough. So I gotta minus two stars for that. Bubble tea is a refreshing treat and ill be back only bc coconut bubble tea is delish. Dont believe me. Try one with a friend. I promise u wont be able to share!

I like that this café is small enough that you can just grab a your drink and go. The owner and her daughters are very sweet and caring when it comes to serving there customers. Instead of a menu, they have all there drinks posted along there walls. They have a lot of flavors and style to choose from. With all the pictures of fruits, it feels like you are in a tropical island inside. This place is neatly organized and clean which makes it more visitable. When it comes to bubble tea, I am really picky. I get really frustrated when I get a bad bubble tea. It’s a $ 5-$ 6 drink and it’s not cheap considering how little ingredients that is used in there drink. I usually get the fresh fruit bubble tea, but really it’s frozen real fruits that they use. I seldom had a bubble tea here that I would say that I really enjoyed. Most of the time, the sago was too soggy or it tasted really weird. There’s no consistency with the taste of the tapioca balls. When I order here now, I just declare silently inside that, «I’m going to get good sagos» today. Unfortunately I always end up disappointed. I’m usually in the this area and will stop by to pick up a bubble tea for Bobo Island, especially some times after dinner. I’ve always loved drinking bubble tea and will continue to visit this place. My favorite thing about Bobo Island is the sturdy take away cups they use. I love it so much that I always reuse the cup at home. They have stamp cards here. You buy 10 drinks and receive one for free.

I made my first trip to Boba Island this afternoon at the suggestion of an acquaintance. Oh, it was so good. I usually get malted barley or taro bubble tea, but I decided to go for fresh pineapple today. So, so good. Sorry, I can’t stop saying that. I also ordered the strawberry-flavoured popping boba, which were simultaneously weird and awesome. Thankfully, this place is close to home and work, and is way better than the other, harder-to-reach bubble tea places around town.

I have frequented many a bubble tea shop in my time, and Boba Island is the best. The owner is so friendly, as are the others in her family who staff the place. She actually used to own another restaurant a couple of doors down, sold it, and bought Boba Island. Formerly known as The Tea Cottage, the new owner has made a radical transformation of the space. It is much brighter than before(with many different sets of lights), very clean, and has a small seating area. Of course, the main reason to come to Boba Island is the drinks. There is a selection of bubble milk with flavours and sago(tapioca pearls), as well as ones made with fresh fruit. Most drinks are under $ 5, and there is a small menu of snacks on the wall, like onion cakes and pork balls. I had a fresh avocado bubble milk(«boba,» by the way, is another term for bubble tea). Often, the drink is ruined by using avocados that are over-ripe. I was happy to discover that my drink tasted fresh and perfect. Even the tapioca balls had a fresh, sweet taste to them(they are often flavourless and sometimes soggy). If you love bubble tea, get to Boba Island. It’s a delicious value.
