Cmac is a esthitician student program to certify people to do nails and esthetic services. Quite timely so ensure you are not in a rush! Difficult to book as the receptionist was odd. Not entirely professional as the esthitician broke out in tears during my manicure and several students and teachers interuppted my manicure to sort out some kind of confusion with appointments for the day.
I was booking over the phone and the receptionist was a tad hyper and couldnt really focus. The appointment was eventually made but my first impression was the business was not professional. Minus a star.
Located just south of jasper avenue on 109 street. Parking is hard to find bc its on a main road in downtown. Theres only metered available.
Once inside. I was greeted but the receptionist which was clearly not ready for me. Shuffling through papers for a few minutes. She finally got my registration forms ready. After signing liability forms (this is a school) i was ushered downstairs to get my manicure. It was old and worn and the chairs were plastic and hard. It was not comfortable to sit down.
My manicurist started off quite coldly. Didnt tell me her name or even chit chat while working. She worked on my nails gently. Almost scared to touch them. She cleaned them up decently at first and i pointed out to just to clean up the cuticles a tad more. And she happily did. She then painted my nails quite nicely. They turned out quite nice actually. I do have to mention that my manicure did take 75 minutes. It took quite some time and i think it could of been done faster but there were many inturuptions for the first 40 minutes. The teachers were trying to organize the schedule for the day and there seemed to be quite the confusion about this. My manicurist was quite upset about one of her clients being bumped to another student and actually started crying mid session. With the constant interruptions from several teachers. Finally it was all worked out. But it did drag out my manicure bc my manicurist was distracted talking to other students and teachers when trying to sort this out. It was quite unprofessional. I felt it was handled poorly in front of a paying customer and really turned me off to the business. Minus another star.
For my pedicure I was ushered upstairs for my pedicure. It was a large open area with students and teachers talking. I was seated in well worn down massage chairs. They got the job done but they didnt appear to be cleaned down between patients. The student doing my pedicure was not very prepared at all. After being seated she started searching for supplies and didnt even have the basin ready. It took another 15 minutes just to get organized.
After getting organized. The soak was a tad too hot and was too hot to even put my feet in. She fixed this quickly though. In order to start they needed to remove my gel nails. The student had no supplies for this and couldnt even find a file to remove this. Finally another student passed her one. I found this occured several times during my visit. The students were missing items and needed things passed to them constantly resulting in several interuptions during my pedicure.
My pedicure was good. She took her time to remove all the dead skin and checked her work 3 times to ensure she did a good job. There was a clean up, scrub, and a massage. The massage was good and she used decent pressure to actually help relax me. Overall her pedicure got the job done. The nails were painted nicely.
Price wise bc its a school its cheap. But not that much cheaper than those asian nail places. They didnt rush my service at all but it took a lot longer than i am accustomed too. My pedicure took about one hour. The student even gave me a bunch of callous removers.
Overall. The business seemed poorly run and executed resulting in a not relaxing environment but more of a teaching environment which does not really cater to the public. My basic manicure and pedicure took 2 hours and 45 min. Despite me being 15 minutes early. This is a tad too long for comfort as i was told the appointment would be one and a half hours. Minus another star for this.
