Floatique Rest Centre

I went in to this pretty skeptical. I’m not sure I buy a lot of the benefits that REST claims. But… It’s a fantastic way to unwind and relax. Very peaceful and serene –easy to clear your mind. The place was very clean, and the staff member who helped me was amazing. Very friendly with clear directions. I will definitely return. Take it for what it is, and go with an open mind.

High end facility where no detail was left untouched. Beautiful, calm waiting area. When you arrive, you fill out some paperwork, and then you are taken to your float room and given a run down of how things work. There is a beautiful waterfall shower in every float room, along with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. You are provided with a towel, and I believe a robe can be provided if you ask. They’ve thought of everything here, even tea from Acquired Taste Tea Company!
The float tank is amazing. I’m 6 feet tall and had no issues with fitting in the tank. Lots of room. You have the option of leaving the lights on, and closing the tank or not. For the full experience, you should probably let the lights dim out and close the tank. I suggest ear plugs that are waterproof. I didn’t wear any, and I had salt coming out my ears for days. For after your float, there is a ready room at the back with hair dryers.
The float itself was actually surreal. I can’t explain it other than saying it’s a form of relaxation I have never experienced before. The entire world was shut out of my life for 90 minutes. It was pure bliss.
I highly recommend trying floating, for anyone. And Floatique is the premier float spa in Edmonton. It’s truly a stunning facility. Now I’m just trying to wonder why I haven’t been back in so long.

I’ve been to Floatique about 3 or 4 times now and I absolutely love it.
The first time I was incredibly nervous, as I always get before trying anything new, but everything was explained in depth and I felt comfortable starting my first float.
Sometimes I feel that 90 minutes is a little too long, but on other days I feel that it’s not long enough; so I think that is down to how I am personally feeling on that particular day.
The online booking and payment system is great — I like that I can leave as soon as I am done my float and don’t have to worry about getting out my debit card (because let’s face it, I’m so relaxed after that I just want to go home and sleep).
The staff are very friendly and add to the beautifully mellow atmosphere in the Centre. Sometimes I have been early and they have been able to get me in right away if there has been no one before me.
I definitely feel everyone should try this out at least once.

The receptionist was nice, polite but not very friendly. I was told to come 15 min before my float, so they could explain how it works, but I sat in the waiting room for those 15 min, with no one showing me anything, or even offering me a water or anything, something I expect from a place that calls themselves a spa.
After your pre shower and you’re in the pod, if/​when you decide to turn out the lights in the pod, there is no indication of where the button is to turn them back on (should you need to) nor to where the «alert» button is in case you need help.
I find 90 mins too long and it was hard to relax at the end. I was misinformed about the about of time for music at the end, and was shocked when the music finally ended (I thought I had 15 min and it was only about 5 min) and was surprised that the lights did not come back on, like I was informed they would.
They give you 10 min at the end of the float to shower, but that is no where near enough time to be able to wash the salt out of your hair (at least for people with longer hair). The shampoo does not «spread nicely, and it took twice as much and twice as long to wash my mid-​back length hair.
After they have a separate room to do make up/​blow dry hair etc. It’s nice, but the cord for the hair dryer is so short, that again, anything more than a bob and it’s impossible to use.

I had my first session at Floatique today. I was greeted by an acceptionally warm hostess and an immaculate facility. The place is clean, tidy and welcoming. The tanks are top of the line and a pleasure to be in. I had a seven hour float session and it was a magnificently grounding and tension melting experience. Wether you’re a curious first timer or an experienced floater, Floatique is definitely worth the time.

The pleasure of feeling weightless and held by my most favorite thing in the world WATER. The bliss I felt floating at Floatique Rest Centre, was felt by every cell in my mermaid body. I felt liberated, nurtured and playful! I experienced a beautiful purple and pink womb and a limitless world of smooth silky liquid giving me the ability to move like a small fetus and a mermaid all in the span of 90 minutes. My noisy ringing ears (Tinnitus) quieted down substantially and have been less noticeable in the nights since my float. The staff was great. I highly recommend this experience!

I’ve been wanting to experience a float tank for a long time. Until I read Dave and Karlie’s reviews I didn’t know that such a business existed in Edmonton.
Definitely make sure you show up 10 – 15 minutes prior to your appointment time especially if it is your first visit. You’ll have a bit of paperwork to fill out and you’ll also need a quick indoctrination into the process. If you show up right at your appointed time all the above will cut into your float time. Keep in mind that they have four beds which can be used at once so it will be you and three others filling out paperwork and being indoctrinated at the same time so the earlier you get there, the better. I got there a half-​hour before, but that was a little too early.
The staff at Floatique Rest Centre are amiable and inviting. As soon as I walked in the door they immediately greeted me and made me feel comfortable. When it came time to brief me on the floating procedure, the staff member was friendly and knowledgeable and didn’t act like she had given the speech a hundred times before.
When I first got into the tank I thought it wasn’t closing completely. I could see «daylight» in the crack of the hatch. I was pulling down on the piston rods from the inside to try and shut the hatch tighter. That was hard to do as I was floating weightless upon the water. It’s hard to find leverage in zero gravity. It turns out that the «daylight» outside the tank fades a few minutes after the float begins. There is also an option to keep a low ambient light shining as you are in the tank. Needless to say I didn’t use that option. I like darkness and lots of it.
I really enjoyed the experience. I had no problem with the 90-​minute float time. The best way I could describe it is, imagine you’re floating alone in an indoor swimming pool and all of a sudden somebody turns off all the lights and closes the doors. You’re left alone on the water with your thoughts. (Mind you, that would be a small pool.) But don’t try treading water like I did. I ended up banging my head off the boards a few times. I was worried that I might not hear the music that comes on to let you know that your time is almost up. After all, I was wearing earplugs, my ears were underwater and the low faint «hum» of the tank sounds a lot like the new age muzak that gets played in places like this. But when the music comes on, it’s obvious and a light also comes on to let you know that it’s time to get out and shower. I plan on going back again soon. They have Frequent Floater programs (not what they’re really called) which give discounts when you purchase several floats in advance. I’ll look into buying one of these.
Some tips I would like to offer: You might want to bring a small toiletry kit with you for your post-​float shower. They supply body wash and shampoo/​conditioner but you’ll still need to provide your own deodorant and hair products. (If you’re into that sort of thing.) If you’re sensitive to water in your ears, I highly recommend that you purchase a pair of swimmer’s ear plugs and bring them with you. They supply foam plugs but they aren’t very good for keeping out water. I wasn’t comfortable with those so they gave me some silicone plugs which were a little better but still not water-​tight. And finally, like Karlie said in her review, it can be a little uncomfortable in there without a headrest. They do supply a little foamy neck pillow, which looks a lot like packing material, but it doesn’t do much. It might be worth it to buy your own and bring it in with you.
So enjoy your float.

I’ve been interested in floating/​sensory deprivation tanks for years, but have only ever been able to experience this when out of town. I was so thrilled when I found out a floatation centre was finally opening in Edmonton and booked a float the first week they were open.
Arrive 10 minutes early for your first appointment to fill out the required form and relax with some tea if you so choose. They had some pastries out when I was there so I munched on that beforehand and saved the relaxing tea for afterwards.
There are four float pods in total, each in a separate room. Go to the washroom beforehand and then shower off before getting into the pod. Everything (ear plugs, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, lotion, makeup wipes) is provided in the float room or the get ready room down the hall.
Don’t be nervous about being in an enclosed space. The pods are quite spacious, and you have the option of leaving the lid open as well. There are different coloured lights that you can leave on during your float, but it’s cool to get the full experience and be in complete darkness. The float is 90 minutes long. It would be nice to see the option for a shorter float, perhaps 50 or 60 minutes, like I’ve seen elsewhere. I would also love to see a floaty pillow provided, as it can get a little bit uncomfortable to let your head and neck completely go like that. Once your float is coming to an end, relaxing music will gently come on to alert you that time is almost up.
It would be nice to see a robe provided as the room is a little bit small and dim for getting dressed and undressed in. it also gets quite humid and warm. I really wanted to crack the door while I was drying off and getting dressed, to get some cool air in, but I don’t think anyone would have appreciated that! So it would be great to throw a robe on and move on over to the get ready room or washroom to get dressed again. Nobody likes puling pants on over damp legs.
There are cushy chairs in the waiting room and you are more than welcome to stay and chill out for however long it takes you to return to normal after your float. I was pretty loopy after mine and ended up sitting there for about 15 – 20 minutes.
The two staff members who were there, the owner and her mom, were very mellow, pleasant and helpful.
They have some great opening specials on right now that will be running until the end of August, so if you’re even a little bit curious about floating, I would strongly suggest checking it out now! Floating is a very unique experience that can help with relaxation and any number of ailments. Online booking is available which is very convenient. I’m looking forward to being able to float on the regular in my own hometown.

I had floated a couple of times in Europe, but it’s never been something I’ve done at home because there was never anywhere to do it locally, until now!
I found floating to be a very unique experience. It’s relaxing, but it also allows your mind to go to some unique places and think about things you wouldn’t normally think about when your senses are being bombarded. If you’re unsure about it, it is definitely worth experiencing and Floatique has, at least for now, a great offer of $ 39 for your first float.
When you first arrive at Floatique, you trade your street shoes in for sandals and fill out a short form. Then you are taken to the room with a float pod and a shower in it, and you are given an opportunity to use the washroom first. Once in your room, you undress, shower with pre-​float soap, pop in some earplugs and get in the pod.
You have the option to have a dim light on in the tank, which slowly changes hues, or you can turn it off and have near complete darkness. There is soft music on when you get in, which then fades out and it stays off until five minutes before your float is over. After it’s done, you shower off and get dressed. There is a room with a large mirror and hair dryer to get cleaned up once you are done, but I didn’t use it.
I like the fact that they have four tanks because I can go at the same time as my wife. My other floats have only been 50 minutes, but Floatique only offers 90 minute floats, which I felt were a touch long. Other times I have gone, I was jet lagged and pretty tired, so I kind of fell asleep and came out refreshed after 50 minutes. I went to Floatique after work on a Friday and it was hard to turn my brain off from work mode, which I think made the 90-​minute experience seem too long.
The place was very clean and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I’ll go back again, but likely not right after work on a Friday.
