Mary Brown’s Famous Chicken & Taters

I don’t consider this location fast food as it is never fast. It is also a place where you should check your order before you leave as I always find something missing or wrong. Today we asked for root beer and Dr pepper. We got a Pepsi and root beer. It almost took 20 minutes to serve the 4 people in front of us.

This store is brand new when we went. It is located on the far north of Edmonton in Hollick Kenyon in the same development as the worst grocery store in Edmonton, (Sobey’s Hollick Kenyon) and Original Joe’s (awesome restaurant), Shoppers Drug Mart etc. On 167 ave just west of 50^th street.
We went on a Sunday and it was empty. We were greeted by a cheery cashier who took our orders promptly. There was a cook in the back. who started getting our order together as soon as it was relayed back.
We went a grabbed a seat by the window. The place was very clean and smelled fresh. Expected of a new restaurant.
Our food arrived within minutes. We ordered chicken, taters, coleslaw, potato salad and gravy. It came so fast we were like «oh sh**». As in it was sitting there and they just boxed it up and brought it out to us…
But we could not have been more mistaken or wrong.
The chicken was so moist, perfectly done, crispy coating, and unlike other reviews of other restaurants in this chain, the batter stuck to the chicken pieces and it was fabulous.
The taters were HOT and crispy. We ordered gravy as a side, and it was also hot, fresh, and perfectly accompanied the taters and chicken as a dipping sauce. Wonderful!
The potato salad was fresh, but generic but expected as was the coleslaw.
They had a good selection of soda’s, and we got two chilled diet 7-up’s which went great with the meal.
I would have to rate the food and service this way:

Cost: ⁴⁄₅ (expensive but well worth it)

We will definitely go back when we need our chicken fix. We are KFC fans, but this place as so much better. Better service and better taste. Less grease. Superior service.
